Pyloric stenosis

My 10 week old son will be having an ultrasound this week to check if he hasPyloric stenosis. I'm so concerned. Anyones little one have this? Or get tested for this? What were their symptoms?

My son had an ultrasound for this a couple of weeks ago. He didn't enjoy the appt but the images showed that he didn't have it.
  • What were his symptoms? My son projectile vomits a few times a week. Usually if he falls asleep at the breast, gets hiccups,  or lays down too soon after feeding. He just did the worst vomit yet, just now. So scary for me, but he doesn't even flinch or cry. I don't think it'sPyloric stenosis because he is 97 percentile, peeing and pooping like crazy, and it only happens a few times per week, and skips weeks too.

That was pretty much it for my son as well. He projectile vomited pretty much once a day, if not twice. Sometimes there would be bile but sometimes not. It happened most often right after feedings but did sometimes happen a little bit later every now and then. He didn't seem bothered either but I worried of course. That said, I didn't think he had pyloric stenosis since he was (and is) gaining weight without issue, isn't dehydrated, and is having regular pees and poops frequently. He's has reflux so the dr said that once we ruled out PS, she would want to put him on Zatac, plus we were to continue giving him probiotics and gripe water. He's been on it now for over a week and the vomiting has drastically decreased. Is that because of the Zantac or just a happy coincidence? Who knows! I'm just glad he is better now...and I have less laundry to do :-P

The dr did say that first born sons are the prime candidates for PS so that was another reason she wanted to check. It doesn't hurt to do the ultrasound for sanity's sake but based off of what you mentioned above, I would be if surprised if your son had it.
  • My little girl didn't this too. She would throw up mucus and get it stuck so she stops breathing with it. It is the scariest thing. We have to get the bulb and help clear her nose and mouth. She has been on Zantac since she was 2 weeks old and it helps but doesn't eliminate it. We had blood work done that showed an allergy so we are now on alimentum  (which stinks horribly and is expensive) this helped as well. They think it's a milk allergy and severe reflux. We even tried prilosec which didn't help at all.

We have an appointment with a GI specialist on Sept 1st to see if there is anything else we can do. I can't go back to work until we figure out how to stop the breathing issue. :(
  • @lisapaulino Did your son's ultrasound go? Hope he is okay!!
