Re: UO Thursday

  • My UO for the day is that I'm kind of excited for the Olympics to be over. I LOVE them, and I love seeing the amazing stories, and I really do love many of the athletes this year, but I also find it so draining to feel like I HAVE to stay up late every night to watch. Boring I know, but I'm just always kind of relieved when they're done. Too much to pay attention to when I feel like I have so much other stuff going on!
  • @SLou24 - I love watching the Olympics but I agree with you to some extent. That time after DS goes to bed but before I go to bed is the biggest uninterrupted time I have everyday to tackle my to-do list. And I have been watching the Olympics and not getting things done. My list is still really long and I have so much to do before this baby comes!

  • I cannot stand most of the sitcoms out there right now. Kimmy Schmidt (and really anything Tina Fey after the first couple seasons of 30 Rock, although I really like her), Mindy Project, even the "older" oned like BBT and HIMYM. I find the jokes cheesy and 100% BTDT. Just can't. Modern Family is awesome but I honestly can't think of one comedy show on now that I like.

  • @AlwaysAuntNeverMom - TV in general is just so blah. I feel like all the good stuff is on HBO and even that is only soso
  • @PoodleDoodleOoo Yes!! Everything we watch is either HBO or on Netflix. I don't know why I pay for all of cable when literally all I watch are those two things, plus sports. I wish there was an a la carte version of cable where I could just pay for the like 3 channels I watch.

OH, and HGTV. Because Chip and Jo are my everything (Fixer Upper).

  • I'm sure this is bash worthy but I have not/will not watch the Olympics this year. I learned about what a big child sex tourism site Rio is right before they announced Rio got the spot and the realization of what would happen made me feel so sick. In top of the other sketchy shit that has happened becuase of the Olympics.

  • I am with you all on the Olympics.. I really do enjoy watching the swimming, diving, gymnastics and track & field but of course all that mess doesn't come until 7 my time and last like 4 hours so I miss the final rounds of a lot of events.  My biggest complaint is social media and the news completely ruin the end result of a lot of events for me.  Women's gymnastics already won their team gold before it even aired for the first time here in Alaska and of course I saw the notification on Facebook.  I was instantly pissed because even though I'm going to watch it and enjoy it, some of the excitement is gone because I know what happens.

Now when it comes to TV shows, I have fallen out of sync completely with all of them.  Used to be all about the shows on ABC and the only one I'm 100% caught up on is Grey's.  I still have an entire season of Once Upon a Time to catch up on and Scandal is just getting ridiculous so I stopped watching.  Love Modern Family though!

  • My UO - I can't stand the Olympics!  DH and DS watched the swimming last night and I was bored out of my mind.  I went to be early because I just can't watch the Olympics

  • @CRich15 I'm with you on the timing of airing and spoilers for the Olympics as well. I'm in Oregon and the evening aren't aired until 8-12 and I'm in need at 9 so I have been DVRing them, but it's always spoiled by social media or the news before I get to watch it.

Have you tried Sling? We have that, Amazon Prime Streaming and Netflix and are beyond covered for TV viewing. In fact, we cancelled Sling for the summer and will pick it up again in the fall (for football). $25/month with the sports package.

Uhhh you may have just changed my life. We have no cable, and watch all of our stuff on Netflix, HBO Go, Showtime app, Starz app... We were missing AMC, FX, and History Channel for some of the other shows that are staples for us but I just looked at this Sling thing & I can get those channels for $25/month....

Yay! You just want to have good internet service...our area was just upgraded so that helped a lot. It looks like you can try for a week free.
  • Sling is awesome! We recently cancelled cable and signed up for it, works great and we are saving money
  • My UO, is I AM NOT READY FOR THIS BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  S**t is getting too real.  :)

I am going through spells of panic and denial. I keep buying stuff (diaper bag, organization house stuff) and trying to get things situated I know as part of coping. The room that will be hers and my older DD's will not be renovated until mid-Sept and the EDD is 10/4. My first DD came 2 weeks early. (HOLD ME).
  • Yes to birth threads so we can congratulate there!! I feel like our second birth was missed by most because a lot was missed in te randoms and I feel bad she didn't get the attention the others got.

Also, yes to sling!! Love our sling TV!

I'm about ready for a FB group. There. I said it.
I never thought I would feel comfortable with a FB group but I really do now. I think it would be more private in a lot of ways. I also feel bad not sharing pictures on here when I get to see all your lovely squishies and bumps, but I feel super uncomfortable posting them on a public forum.

So yes, I'm ready for one also but I don't want to loose any of our FB-less moms....

I was thinking about a FB group too. My April 13 FB group started around this time in our pregnancies.

  • I'm a FB less mom, but I know it is up to me to get back on FB if I really want to be a part of this group. Which I do! Does TB group seem to dissipate after the FB group is started up? I will remain with TB and hope that it doesn't. Just can't get myself to get back on FB.
  • I'm ready for FB, but I don't want TB to die off. Probably after our babies are born?

  • For all of the people with Sling TV...Do you have to watch it live?  There's no way to go back and do it "on demand" style, is there?  Or like DVR?  There are a ton of channels I want, but we're not home enough to watch live TV.
  • And I agree with @JLmama118 I'd also wish there'd be less "congrats" in the Randoms thread - it clogs it down, makes it intimidating to read, and also makes me feel bad for sharing real randoms because they don't seem important enough!

More separate birth threads please! Not everything is a random!
So much this. I am currently 329 posts and counting behind on randoms. Too slow to be part of anything relevant, but I don't want to miss anything by skipping ahead to post a true random and ruin the flow there... le sigh.

  • I've been FB-less for awhile but decided to go back just for when this group moves over there. I, for one, will probably leave TB after we move to FB and come back only when I TTC again or something. I love me TB but I think this group will probably die off after FB starts  :'(

  • I actually really like the format of the Bump over facebook groups - I like that it can be more organized with different threads whereas in FB groups topics/posts/etc can go disappear really quickly. Buuuuuutttt... I probably won't be checking TB AT ALL when I'm on maternity leave because the app sucks soooo much. So i'm with whatever everyone else wants to do regarding the move to FB
  • I like the idea of moving over to FB after the babies are here, but would be willing to make the switch at any time. And yes, I think our board will probably die off after a FB group starts, especially after all the babies are born. At least that is my prior experience with it.

  • I'm sort of ready for a FB group, but at the same time it makes me really nervous to have my personal info shared to strangers. I like being able to be anonymous on here, not to sound like a creeper, but I've seen some pretty crazy catfish stories. Does anyone else feel this way?

Me! That's my biggest concern about moving to FB.

  • I'm on board with the moving things over to FB team. IMO we should probably start setting things up sooner since babies are starting to arrive. Plus, I think it might be more challenging to get it figured out and started with new babies and recovery from delivery.
