3rd section anyone?

hi:) As I am approaching my 3rd section I can't help but worry!!! I didn't worry at all about my second, and hen had a little extension tear (??? Apparently my uterus ripped a little more as they were pulling her out) during me second, which my OB doesn't seem to be concerned about at all- but of course I am! Anyone also having heir third or already have their third section have any advice or encouraging words? I could really use them... Good luck to everyone on safe and healthy deliveries:)

Re: 3rd section anyone?

  • I'm set to have my third and had no idea about extension tears.  I did have a harder time recovering from my first than my second, but I think that's because I labored to long/hard before the emergency section that it's almost like I had a double labor, plus I didn't realize how significant of a surgery it was when I was sent home.  I tried to do too much too fast and ended up with complications.

The second time, I was much more careful about pushing myself when I got home and the healing was still slow, but I took my time.

That's my plan for this time too.  I'm going to be better about letting things go and asking for help.  We have a 6 and a 4 year old at home (after school hours anyway) so I'll make them my helpers when I can.  I usually do the shopping, cooking and most of the cleaning but I'm going to have to let that go for a couple of weeks.  It's going to be hard but it's what I have to do.

At this point, the delivery/surgery is out of your control.  The best you can do is try to relax and trust that doctors.  Also, when you get home, REST!  I get that it's almost impossible, especially with little ones at home, but you really have to take your time recovering.  Ask for help and accept it when it's offered.  I'm still working on that last one, but we HAVE to!

I would talk to your dr ahead of time, express your concerns and trust that you're in good hands.  If you ever want to chat, feel free to PM me.

  • I'm having a 3rd c/s.  For some reason this time around I'm freaking out about bleeding to death and blood clots.  I have no idea why because my last two c/s went great, recovery and the surgery.

  • I'm scheduled to have my 3rd as well. I'm sitting in l&d now waiting on dr to give me my second round of steroid shots. I wasn't nervous at all until last month I lost my cousin after her csection.
She went home just fine with baby  but was experiencing a lot of heavy bleeding. She went to her dr and was told it was normal not to worry, well turns out she lost too much blood and didn't make it.
I'm just praying everything turns out ok. You don't think about bad things happening until it happens to someone you know. I'm real nervous now.
  • I am about 5 weeks away from my scheduled c/s and I think I'm more worried about not making it to my surgery date then the procedure itself.  I am going to be highly upset if I go into labor after I told them specifically that I have never carried a kid that long whether it be natural labor or forced extraction.

I feel I am comfortable with the procedure having gone through it twice already and know what to expect and how to recover.  I'm just not looking forward to the recovery and hope that I have a smooth one like I did with my second.  I didn't even need the Percocet once I got home until my milk came in a dried up.

  • I have talked to my Dr, and like I said he doesn't seem too worried at all.... I just can't help but worry I guess! Thanks everyone for the input, here's to healthy and safe deliveries for us all!
  • @Tippy05 your story of your past experiences is mine exactly to a T! I just hope I too can relax more and remember that it's OK to ask for help.
  • Chastidylynn - I'm so sorry to hear about your cousin.  That would scare me too.  Overall, I've had good experiences with both my planned c-sections and recoveries.  I follow the model of the squeaky wheel gets the oil meaning if I feel nauseous during the section then I speak up right away.  I also got a bladder infection after my last section but we caught it early.  I don't normally need the Percosets either just the Tylonel does the trick at home.  Good luck to all of you and try to enjoy your births of your LO's : -)
