Aching fingers in the AM

I keep wanting to post about it but refraining because it seems silly. But every morning my fingers hurt so bad! My hands are starting to also be swollen in the morning but even prior to that I had this finger problem. They ache and the joints seem all out of wack and it's just weird. Every morning for the last 5 weeks or so... I'm 35 wks. Anyone else? Just one of those weird pregnancy symptoms they don't tell you about, haha.

Re: Aching fingers in the AM

  • My fingers are also getting quite swollen and my joints hurt a lot. My hands and fingers also randomly go numb throughout the day and my arms also go numb and have shooting pains through them sometimes. Fun times!! My ears are also ringing and I'm having trouble hearing and my feet are a hot mess! My OB said this is all normal because I am just full of fluid at this point--some people just swell a lot at the end of pregnancy but as long as your BP is ok and there is no protein in your urine, it's ok. Your swelling and joint pain should go away a couple of weeks postpartum.

  • Yes I have this same exact symptom! I wasn't sure if it was normal or not lol
  • With my first pregnancy, I would wake up with numb hands and arms-and it would hurt like crazy when they started having feeling again. My doc told me it's common for women to get carpal tunnel during pregnancy. I wore wrist braces at night and it helped tremendously!!
  • It's all a symptom of carpal tunnel.  I had it really bad with DS and mildly (so far) with this one.  It's awful.  And sadly, it doesn't go away right after you give birth either.  I want to say it was almost totally gone by about a month after DS was born though.  it's all related to your fluid levels and how it compresses the nerves.

  • Yep, I feel you!  I've got it in my hands, my feet, my hips...generally, my hips and feet feel better after I can get up and moving - although the aches and swelling come back if I sit for too long.  The finger ache lessens a bit throughout the day, but never really goes away.  For bad days, acetaminophen (Tylenol) seems to help, but otherwise I just grin and bear it.

  • Ok so glad I am in good company. I thought it was my rings cutting off circulation now that I'm getting mild swelling but even after I removed them I still have that achiness in the AM. It goes away later on but super annoying to deal with in addition to severe hip pain
  • I do not have that much swelling with this pregnancy, but last pregnancy I did. I couldn't walk on me feet when I got out of bed in the morning, I needed to just sit up for a few minutes. My hands felt arthritic. I just dealt with it, I don't have any advice, but o can validate that it's a real pregnancy symptom.

  • My ring fingers and pinkies are the only fingers that fall asleep in the middle of the night..it's the strangest thing. Just within the last couple of days my knuckles have started hurting. Especially when i try to make a fist.

  • I have struggled with this since 2nd trimester. Doc says its carpal tunnel. Can't wait for it to go away!  Wrist braces, elevation and ice are the only things that have helped. Oh and trying to stay out of the heat and avoiding hot baths.
  • Add me to the list of carpel tunnel sufferers. It's been a couple of months already but is getting worse lately. The middle finger on my right hand is constantly numb now. I have weakness, difficulty writing, cutting food, making a fist and my doctor told me if will probably get worse before it gets better. She did mention that I could get steroid shots but they are apparently shortlived so I'm not going that route (yet).

So, I'm doing the same as @jbscmama and hoping for the best.
  • I got carpal tunnel when I was pregnant last time.  Wrist brace and having my chiropractor adjust them was the only thing that helped.  Totally a normal pregnancy symptom.
  • I totally have swollen, tingly hands and feet in the morning.  I complain to my dog, but she still wants her morning walk!
  • Well glad I'm not the only one. Started out just in my right thumb but got so bad had to get brace for my wrist at night. Now think it has started up in my left wrist/arm. See chiropractor but not sure it helps. Hurts clear up to my shoulder on the left side but think that is because I sleep on my left side a lot. Just hope it doesn't get too much worse in the next 6 weeks.
