  • How's everyone doing with bedtimes?  Preston will go down any time from 8-10 depending on his last nap. Basically we realized if he wakes from his last nap at 7 he won't sleep till 10 so we aim to not let him nap past 6 so he's asleep by 9 if not a little sooner.  Then he's fully awake by 9 am.

My LO goes down between 10-11... Oops! We're night owls and I like to go down the same time as her  I get as much sleep as possible. Just one more thing to work on before she starts daycare in November!

We're pretty similar to you. Over the past week LO has been consistently falling asleep between 8-10, waking up around 5-6, nursing, then back to sleep until 8-9. She'll be 9 weeks on Tuesday and we're really hoping this pattern lasts!!

Our son originally fell asleep at 10pm or 11pm but I wanted to put him down earlier. He now goes down most nights between 8:30pm and 9:30pm. Bedtime routine can start at 8pm or 8:30pm depending on the evening. He had a tough time tonight though and didn't fall asleep until 9:45pm. My trouble is in the morning. He will often wake at 6 or 7am. I can get him back to sleep but it takes a little bit and usually it isn't good sleep because he spends the whole time half-awake working on his morning poop. It doesn't seem to matter what time he falls asleep at night either.

Sounds like we're all on a fairly similar schedule. Our daughter starts winding down around 9ish and falls asleep between 930-1030. She'll sleep for 5-7 hours, wake to feed and go back to bed for a few more hours. I really hope she sticks to this schedule!
  • Those of you whose babies sleep 5+ hour stretches: does your baby sleep in your room and did you do anything to get them to sleep this long? We are still feeding every two hours and I'd love to get longer stretches  :/
  • We start our bedtime routine at 7pm and Sam is usually down by 8pm. He then sleeps to somewhere between 3-5am, usually, not always. Then he will go back down until 7ish. I am not a morning person and I really wish he'd go down again after the seven feeding, but that doesn't really happen lol. My parents have informed me that I need to become a morning person.

@26pointrunningfor2 Sam sleeps in his crib in his room and I didn't really do anything to get him to sleep for more than two hours, it just seemed to happen.

This is my 3rd and I've found that each baby is a little different, my first was an awful sleeper, my second so much better, and this LO is doing well. I can't say I did anything to get her to sleep for long stretches, she's not sleeping as long as some of the other babies but still long in my opinion for a 9 wk old. She goes down around 7:30/8 and sleeps till about 6, but is then up, she'll go back down around 9. The only problem is I have to leave to take my boys to school around 8:40 and am not back till 9:30/10. So I am working on a nap schedule still. I did notice she starts cluster feeding around 5/6 depending on when she wakes from her afternoon nap and I think that helps with nighttime sleep. It gets better but each baby is unique and eventually will sleep thru the night.

I find that if he cluster feeds in the evening he tends to sleep longer at night.  So I offer food more often at night, like ever 1.5 hours.  Plus frequent feedings is best for reflux anyways.

Dd goes down between 8-8:45. My older kids are asleep by 8, and I put her to bed after them. Some days she is ready earlier than others

I don't think we've really been doing anything special and we don't necessarily have a bedtime routine but we'll start to keep the lighting dim around 8 or so and try to keep the noise level in the house lower. We change her into her pjs before the last feeding. Our LO spits up a lot so we always hold her until she falls asleep after her last feeding but she usually falls asleep while nursing and we'll put her down about 15 min later. She's still in the bassinet in our room and we always swaddle her, but only at nighttime. It was our way of trying to help her differentiate between day and night. Don't know if it actually helps with that but she's been sleeping for at least a 5 hour stretch since week 6 so we're sticking with it!
  • My son will be 8 weeks tomorrow and just this week starting sleeping longer stretches at night. He sleeps in his crib and we usually swaddle him with his arms out. He seems to drink more formula in the hours leading up to his bedtime so maybe he's stocking up?  Lol. Last night was day 3 of putting him in his crib while he is awake -- we use to wait until he was asleep. He fusses for a few minutes and then falls asleep with his binky (which he later spits out on his own). He slept from 8:30pm until midnight. I changed his diaper and was going to make him a bottle and he fell back asleep!  So I let him sleep. He didn't wake up again until 4am  :o. He drank 4 ounces and went back to sleep. It's now almost 8am.

@26pointrunningfor2 my dd is almost 7 weeks and does a 7-8 hour stretch. She sleeps in her own room. I just make sure she eats enough during the day, keep it totally dark at bedtime, don't talk after saying good night, and feed, burp, bed. Haven't really done anything special, she's just naturally a good sleeper.

He sleeps in our room and usually has a 6 oz bottle before bed. I don't BF so I know how much he eats at a feeding, usually 4-6 oz, so I make sure the last feeding of the day is enough to keep him going for quite a while.
  • Anyone else blown away by the cost of the hospital bill? I only have to pay $175 because of our good insurance, but I got the statement from the hospital. It would have cost about $12K!! And I had a low complication vaginal birth. That's crazy! How do people afford to have kids!

  • Damien is slowly working his way to longer stretches. We're at 4.5hrs now. That said, once we hit 4 or 5am, he usually is only sleeping between 2-3hrs. I blame it on the nursery curtains. My MiL is making a set of blackout ones since the ones in there now don't really block out the light. He sleeps his longest stretches in our room (he splits his night between our room and the nursery), which is pitch black at night. It could also be a comfort thing tho, he knows we are right there in the room. Who knows!

I never saw the final bill for my twins birth but I know the c section alone was $15,000. My girls were in the NICU for 3 weeks so I can only imagine. Apparently the average twin birth is $100,000...
  • I'm off for my tubal ligation tomorrow. Has anyone had this done yet? I really wished I would have sucked it up and had it done during my c section even though I thought I was on deaths door lol!

Oddly enough I was just looking at these bills today...Overall I have to pay $4k out of pocket. Before insurance, my hospital bill was $16,300 and for the LO is was $4,600.  I had a vaginal birth as well, but I did have an epidural....I couldn't believe how much more expensive I was versus him.  Overall I didn't pay too much of my own money out of pocket since I would say 50% of the $4k was covered by my HRA paid by my employer.  My mom said that she really never had to pay anything to have a baby back in the day...meaning between 1974-1988.  She was just amazed by the bills we have to pay for having the baby.

I had an unmedicated vaginal birth and I had to pay $600 as per my Kaiser insurance coverage. I didn't see a bill showing the total cost, but I can only imagine how expensive it is.

Holy crap!! I never even saw a bill but I also love in Canada so in a way I paid for it little by little via taxes I guess. A buddy of mine got into a snowboarding accident in CO and thank God he bought traveler's insurance because the total invoice was near a million dollars (it was a really bad accident...like lucky to be alive kinda thing).

    It's funny you mention CO, that's where I live lol : )
  • Military health insurance finally gets something right. Jackie is a $36 baby! I don't remember what the total bill was, but it was outrageous.

On a completely different note, what do you all use to get poop stains out? I've been doing an oxyclean soak on any stained clothes/linens, but I'm starting to notice that it is discoloring some of her things.

Shout seems to work well, but it definitely works better the quicker you get it on there.
  • Our bill for two hours in triage for a monsters test when I got sick was $1,200.  Hospitals are crazy. At the birth center for all prenatal care, delivery and postnatal care is $5600 and my insurance covered it all cause we met the deductible.

As for poop, hang dry in the sun.
  • Ugh! Mini rant: whhhhhhhy does my son give me huge smiles but won't let me catch them on camera!

As for bills, before insurance, the hospital bill was $22000, the epidural was another 1000, and his doctor's visit was 900. American healthcare...
  • I got a letter from Kaiser (that stated "this is not a bill") that showed what I believe is my sons circumcision (it showed procedure date as the day after he was born so that's the only thing I can think of) and says the procedure was $265 and has been denied.  I'm confused. Lol. Anyone else have Kaiser and received this letter???

No, but I've gotten a letter from my ins co saying they denied a claim from my dr bc the Dr didn't clear it ahead of time. Dr and ins co resolved it themselves.

Here's a good one... I got a letter from my ins co ("this is not a bill") saying I can be in the hook for like $1300 for the frenulotomy that was done on my LO 9 days after birth, bc apparently there is a $1500 deductible for each family member, so the $4-5k we've spent in medical bills for this pregnancy doesn't count, the LO starts from 0.
My husband at least has a sense of humor... "she has her own deductible? How is she supposed to pay that?"
  • My Mom missed her connecting flight during the night and had to wait in line for 4hrs to get rebooked. I was up getting the play-by-play from her most of the night since I needed to know details (I was the the one picking her up). Well finally at around 3:30am she gets booked onto a 9:25am flight. Great. Now I can get proper sleep. Noooope. Damien slept the whole night in our room since the nursery has her air mattress set up in it and there's no room to get to the crib. Welp, he decided to do major grunting from 3:30am until 6:30am. I'm exhausted after not sleeping and my husband ended up sleeping in the nursery since he has to work. I really hope today we get some good naps in like yesterday! My Mom arrives a little after noon via taxi and I know she will need to nap too.
  • So it really doesn't matter how long I keep Damien upright during the night after he nurses, the moment he is laid down he vomits or has epic spitup. It doesn't happen much during the day so I'm trying to figure out what is different about the night. It also doesn't matter if he's elevated or not.

Anyone else have this issue? I'm going to try extending his time being upright to an hour to see if that helps. Just seems ridiculous...at this point I might as well put him doen right after he eats if it doesn't make a lick of difference.

I know nothing about reflux... but could it be that the more tired he is, the less his internal muscles or whatever can control it?

Sounds like a legit explanation to me!
  • It's 10:30, we tried to put him down forever ago!  I worry about my supply now cuz he just hasn't seemed satisfied with feedings, growth spurt? Low supply? Idk.  He's been awake since 5:30 minus a 15 min nap at 8:30 and he just will not settle.  He was just chilling in the crib for a while just wanting company until I tried to pick him up to try and rock him and then he got fussy and the only thing I could do was put him down and give him the pacifier. I got a bad feeling about tonight
  • My son is 2 months old today. He has been blowing spit bubbles and seems like he's starting to drool. Can he be teething already???  Anyone else's little one doing this?
  • My son is blowing bubbles as well. I read ahead on the wonder weeks app and it did say that blowing bubbles is one of abilities gained during the smooth transitions leap (11.5 weeks) and I thought maybe he just gained that ability early? I don't know.

My baby is 2 months Monday and she started drooling a lot today as well.  I am wondering the same thing about teething.  I did read it begins between 2-12 months with 8 months being the average.  I hope for my nipple's sake it's not so!

Mine is two months and doing the same. I think it's just part of development. Or at least I hope so. We have thrush and I don't need anything else irritating my nipples!!

I know how you feel. I'm always thinking LO hasn't gotten enough when she's fussy but she's usually just fussy and tired...
  • Drool is not just a sign of teething. All babies start drooling, some just more than orhers. My oldest drooled a lot from 2-4 months. Got his first tooth around 5 1/2 months.
Also, my 7 week old has been blowing spit bubbles for a couple weeks. I've never heard of that being a milestone or sign of anything. Babies just have a lot of oozing fluids we have to wipe up. Messy little things
