  • @AnnaS930 Hilarious! Was not expecting the second part of your confession!

Haha, both of my other babies were born just after midnight so if this baby comes during the day I think it will feel weird.

  • I am so tired of eating. I dread whenever I look at the clock and notice it's time to eat. I am still eating a lot of healthy choices just in smaller amounts at this point. I'm ready to not worry about food!!
  • I had way too much caffeine this week (but under the 200mg daily recommended amount). I don't feel bad about it and see myself continuing this trend -- it's the only way to get through the next month of work
  • I'm not much of a baby person. I tend to squee much more at a picture of a puppy or a dog than a picture of a baby!

I have a hard time imagining life with a baby despite all the baby stuff in our house, but have no problem imagining life with a 3 and 5 year old and older kids in general!
  • I am addicted to Coca Cola. I limit my intake during the day because I shouldn't have that much caffeine,  but could pretty much drink it nonstop at this point. Also have done almost nothing around the house this week and am still procrastinating cleaning before my husband gets home tomorrow. I just have no desire to do anything! My poor kids are super bored.

@RG1 my first was born just before 11 at night but my second was born at 1:30 in the afternoon. I have to admit I liked having a baby in the afternoon better because I wasn't already exhausted and felt I could better enjoy the first few hours with him.

I'm having a really hard time imagining life with a baby! I have never felt overwhelming emotion when seeing friends babies and I worry that I'll feel indifferent towards my own. I know they say you might not feel attached right away, but I seriously worry I won't love him :( it makes me really depressed to think about. I'm sure many BTDT moms had this fear and ended up being smitten by their own baby? Maybe?

If I remember correctly, I read something about there being a study that showed that the majority of women go into spontaneous labor during the night.

@jlmama118 That would be great for me!

  • @RG1 - I think I was a bit overwhelmed without realizing it when I had my son. I wasn't moved to tears, I was just in awe of him being here and I saw a lot of the first few weeks as a puzzle to figure out.  I instantly loved him though, but maybe didn't feel the extreme mother-child bond that some experience at the moment of birth. It comes though, don't you worry. Give yourself time to adjust and just keep moving forward and all of a sudden you realize you are just head over heels obsessed with this little bundle of baby.

Also, some people are just not infant people. My husband loved Emmett as an infant but even before he was born would openly say that he loves older babies/toddlers and just isn't super into the infant stage. That's fine too, whether it's great news or the worst news ever - babies aren't babies forever. People shouldn't have kids just because they love/want a baby, or else they'll be sadly disappointed within the first year when they grow up!

@annas930 That makes me feel better! I think that's it - me and H have spent so long visualizing a family and that means visualizing toddlers, older kids, that I forgot about the infant stage

@RG1 - I found for myself, that individual days/nights can be long in the infant stage (and currently) when baby is fussy or you are extremely tired.. but the weeks and months have a tendency to fly right by.

Edited: not to say that you will wish away your child's infancy.. but trying times and phases are just phases and you'll all come out the other side!

  • @RG1 I told my family you're welcome after DS1 was born.   I got to the hospital at 10 am and he was born at 3:38 PM so they were able to come and go in daylight. I always had the assumption it'd be at night, too!

I agree.  Both my boys were night babies and if all goes according to plan (knock on wood) then this baby will be born via c-section at about 7:30am - still trying to wrap my head around that.
  • I have a hard time picturing a daytime baby. I had Emmett around 8pm, so after a quick visit, all that hubbub, etc.. we all just went to sleep and it made sense.  If you have a morning/afternoon baby do you stay up until bedtime? Or do you nap that day away? Here's hoping for a nighttime baby again!

  • FFFC #2: Butt sweat saga continues. I've found that if I use the backrest in my office chair the butt sweat is out of control (thank god for black pants).. my chair is kind of cushy so therein lies the issue. But if I sit up straight I can't put my feet up on my boxes, so I'll end up with cankles galore. What wonderful choices I have...

I can't believe my confession is so common! H thinks it's really weird that I think babies should only be born at night.

I have not cooked a good, solid, homemade meal for my family in weeks.  It's been pizza, chicken nuggets, burgers, tacos, pasta... easy stuff.  We've also gone out to eat quite a bit lately, which is usually very unlike us.  I feel bad that I'm not being as "domestic" as I was, but only a little.  Mostly, I'm enjoying not having to cook.
My meal planning is SERIOUSLY not happening like it used to. We'd plan 4 real dinners per week and have leftovers or pasta the other nights. Now we plan 1 or 2 meals per week and they're things like "Grill" or "pizza" and are stuck scrounging the other nights. Yikes.

  • @Tippy05 - I'm the same way! DH has hope that I'll still make dinner and I'm just like "Nope, the kitchen is broken and the cook is out of commission. You want dinner? MAKE IT YOURSELF!"

I actually enjoy cooking and meal planning so I'm sure I'll get back to it once it's not so hot out, and I'm not feeling so gross and huge and uncomfortable. But until then it's mostly snacks for dinner.
  • @RG1 DS1 was born at 5:36am and I was completely exhausted from laboring all night long and it was still dark out so it made the exhaustion even worse but we had DS2 at 12:30 in the afternoon and it was glorious.  I got lunch, we hung out and I didn't feel half as tired.  I do still think it's odd when babies are born during the day though.

  • Dd1 was born at 301am and dd2 and 250pm. I had so much more energy and a chance to rest with my afternoon baby. I'm hoping this one isn't born in the middle of the night again. That was hard!

Confession number 2: my MIL is driving me insane. We live in a small town with no grocery store, but one 10 minutes away. H gets groceries every Friday after work. Since retiring, she gives him a list to get her because the store he goes to is a TINY bit cheaper than the one 10 minutes away. But he has to go in and do a separate shop so he doesn't mix up the bags so it takes him an extra 20 minutes. She doesn't have a car but we've told her numerous times she is free to borrow on of ours and go to the other grocery store. H feels bad saying no but I know it annoys him that he has to do a separate trip. Like spend the extra $5-$10 and take care of your own damn groceries! If she was old and incapable of shopping, then I'd get it, but she isn't.

  • DS was born at 1:30 AM. I was so tired that the first several hours of his life are a blur. By the time I got into my postpartum room I had been awake for nearly 24 hours. DS went to the nursery since I was too tired to deal with a newborn for the first time ever. Thankful I had the nursery as an option!

You guys are making me change my view on this whole night birth thing. I'm hoping for a day birth now!

  • Darn you beat me to it @PoodleDoodleOoo
  • For this kid, I would love an afternoon birth. It will make child care for DS a lot easier!

  • I had the urge to bite my two year old the other day. He was infuriating me and the urge was strong. I put him in time out and I screamed in the garage instead. It was bad. Truly my worst parenting moment(so far). I really need some sleep.
  • @lovelylauren86 Sounds like you did exactly what you should have done: Set him in a safe space and walked away. Good for you!
  • I have a hard time imagining daytime babies, too.  I'm a FTM, but both me and my brother were born in the middle of the night, so that's what I always imagine, unless someone's having a scheduled c-section.

I never really thought about it, but I think I took it for granted that most, if not all, babies were naturally born in the wee hours of the morning.
