@Sunnshine good idea about mucinex! That totally makes sense but I never would have thought of that on my own. Ill ask the RE.
Thanks so much @LittleSunshine feeling some pain and kind of exhausted- but I can't tell whether thats from barely being able to sleep last night or the meds they gave me. Mostly I am just relieved to have made it through the ER. How exciting that your transfer is tomorrow!!! Bet its amazing that the wait is finally over!! GOOD LUCK TOMORROW!!!!! Sending sticky thoughts your way!!!

@shauna43 oh and good luck to you too!! Didn't see that your transfer is tomorrow as well. Hope you and @LittleSunshine have great success and some incredible news to share with us in a couple weeks!!
Also, this is a general question for everyone: I keep reading about mock embryo transfers. Has anyone here done one? My RE did not perform a mock transfer and I don't really understand the point of them. Can someone clarify what the function is and if I should be nervous since I haven't had one?

@babylonghorn16 yes, beta on Saturday! I'm definitely testing on Thursday since that will be 9dp5dt. Feeling ok, just really tired which I chalk up to the crinone. It's just tough to attribute what I feel to anything but the hormones!

@shauna43 So excited . Fx'd one of your little girl embabies start snuggling in tomorrow. Are you taking the day off to rest?
@RVloution Thanks for the well wishes! Totally hear you about the pain. If you aren't already, drinking gatorade and using a heating pad made a huge difference for me! With the mock embryo transfer, I did have one done before I started my stims. I think the only purpose is to make sure there aren't any surprises when it comes time for transfer (like your cervix bends in an unexpected way or something). So I don't think they are required, and you should be just fine! If something comes up during your transfer they have probably seen it before and will know how to adjust .

@RVloution my TE does a mock transfer but I haven't done yet. She said it's just to be sure there aren't any surprises.
AFM, it has been a crazy ride since my egg retrieval of last week Wednesday. I ended up getting severe 0HSS and was in the emergency room getting IV medication on Sunday and then back at the hospital yesterday to get my stomach aspirated. They ended up taking out more than 2 1/2 L of fluid! Today I feel so much better and feel like I can actually breathe!
This past weekend we got our day three update and it did not look good for us. Out of the 27 embryos, all of them are progressing but the embryologist gave them a rating of fair or poor. So between that and the OHSS, it's been a tough time. However with our day five update yesterday the embryologist let us know that he was able to biopsy two of them for PGS testing and freeze them! We were thrilled to hear this since we didn't know if any would make it. They were rated a B+ and a B in the two areas. So now today it is day six and we are waiting to hear back from the embryologist to hear if any more have made it to the blastocyst phase.
@Jodes727- wow, I am so glad they finally drained you. Hope you are feeling better now! How long until your FET since you are doing PGS? crossing everything for you that the two they are testing are perfectly normal!
AFM- I finally talked to the nurse this morning and I think we are about to get the meds resolved and ordered today! Won't get them in time for my baseline tomorrow, but o well. My clinic doesn't do an injections class- we were told to review the injections on freedommedteach.com. Did anyone do a class and learn anything that isn't in the videos (if you have watched them)? Also my DH got a second SA and it turns how his morphology is only 2% instead of the 4% that is normal. Looking back at his last SA it was 9% (when 15% was normal for their scale). I feel like this was missed by last RE and this could be part of the reason we are unexplained. It makes me feel better than we didn't keep trying TI and IUI, and just went for IVF even though we have been ttc for only 13 months now. Hopefully IVF with ICSI will be our magic bullet!

@JamieH2000 we didn't have an injections class either! We were told to watch the freedom vids and then ask any questions afterward. I found the vids to be very helpful and didn't need additional guidance from the nurse. I also watched youtube videos... helped to see other people going through the same thing as me! Made me feel like if they can do it, so can I! It's really simple once you get the hang of it! You'll do great! GL!

I love seeing all of these fabulous updates! I just heard from my RE. Of the 5 that were fertilized 5 are doing good, all rated 1! Hoping they all progress but we will be happy with 2-3 making it to blastocyst stage, biopsy and freezing. And retrieval question. How long after were you crampy? My retrieval was Saturday and I'm still needing my heating pad.
@JamieH2000 sa changes every time so they will greatly fluctuate like that not something an RE can predict. My DH has had different numbers every time and especially when what they are counting is only a % you will still have tons of useful sperm and looks like you are doing icsi so fx for you
@RVloution Congrats on a successful retrieval! And like others have said, the mock transfer is to eliminate surprises. My RE did one on me and it turned out I had a curve in my cervix, which they said is completely normal, and now they will be prepared for that when they do the transfer. I'm sure you're fine if your RE isn't requiring it.
@jodes727 I'm so sorry you've been sick with OHSS . So glad though that you have some blasts from your retrieval. FX you get another or two by tomorrow!
@PhotogDana My retrieval was the day before yours and today is the first day I feel 100% back to normal. Just last night I was still a little achey/crampy. Today I feel great. Hopefully by tomorrow you'll be back to normal!
AFM, I hope embryo week doesn't cause the rest of you as much anxiety as it's been causing me. I am definitely feeling hopeful after our incredible day 3 update yesterday, but the nerves are starting to set in about getting the call tomorrow. Being completely out of pocket we had to pay close to $16k up front (not including meds) and I'll be damned if we don't get some viable embryos out of that!!! Just trying to hold it together until we find out. FX.

babylonghorn16- thanks for the info! that makes me feel a lot better. I have already used the follistim pen, but just mostly nervous if I have to mix anything how that will go. Hopefully I'll know more specifics after my baseline tomorrow.
rmarble23 - Good point, that makes sense that they can change each time. Since his was half the normal morphology both times, I am assuming it is less than "normal" but no idea what that really means in terms of success rates for TI and IUI. Sometimes its just so frusterating to not have a good answer as to why it isn't working! my RE did reco ICSI, which we were leaning towards anyways, so hopefully it will all work out!
PhotogDana - that is great news that all 5 are still looking good!!
wifeinraleigh28 - I can only imagine how stressful it is waiting for those calls. Definitely not looking forward to that in ~2 weeks. I wish I had any good advice on coping techniques... but I don't really think anything can help in this situation. hang in there, less than 24 hours and I really do think it will be good news!!

Hey Ya'll!! Sorry I have been so MIA I actually had my 10 year High School reunion this past weekend in TN so DH and I were a bit of road warriors making it there and back by late Sunday. Unfortunately DH totaled one of the family cars Sunday night while were on the way to return the rental. So that was no fun considering we had to transfer the next morning at 8:30... So fast forward to the transfer we get there the next morning at 8:00 and then we end up waiting in the waiting area for over an hour without explanation from the front. I literally went to check with them 3 times to see "how much longer". When we finally got called upstairs the nurse(who is awesome and been with us every step of the way) let me know that we "were not in a rush" and that my Dr. was "waiting on something with the embryos" but that he would come talk to me. When he finally came in about 25 mins later he let me know that during the thaw the first 4 they thawed weren't looking so hot and that he had the last 2 thawing and he was going to look into how they thaw. So he watched them for another 1 or so and then we finally got to transfer at about 11:30. I pray that these two blast make it and are very sticky for me! Mommy needs her angels to fight I am bummed to know that we might not have anything left in the freezer but right now all I can do is pray these beans are STICKY! So ladies please help me pray I am worried that I didn't get to have a full 24 hour bed rest because I planned to be at work this morning at 10 and had to help DH get to work around 5 since we are working with one car right now...

AFM - I'm still waiting on AF to get here so that I can complete the last test necessary for insurance approval on my FET. An entire month come and gone and still no flow. Damn you PCOS and your unpredictable ways. I have been feeling AF coming on for a few days now so I'm hopeful to get this show on the road within the next week. At this point I will definitely be a Sep FET given it takes a couple of weeks for insurance to turnaround approvals. Ugh!
@PhotogDana Is that good? I have no clue, I feel like everyone on here is so knowledgeable and I just skirt along leaving it all in my doctors hands!
All I know is when we started almost 2 years ago, I had 9 follicles, somehow I got to 11 then 12 (without meds) and now this!
When I got to the 11 and 12 I told my RE, see you said id be worse off now, and look all my results are better, and he to this day is baffled as am I....
I figure more is better, especially when there are chances some wont "evolve" I guess you can say, so im happy! Just hoping for some good news finally

Hi everyone. I received my 5 day results today. It was a crazy stressful wait.
Normally they call me early, but in the end I cracked and called them late this afternoon when I hadn't heard. I couldn't wait any longer. The embryologist said she just came out of doing my biopsies. To which I replied, biopsies? So that means at least one made it?
She said that they froze four yesterday (day 5) and two more today (day 6)! And our cells are heading to the lab in California tomorrow. I am honestly overjoyed right now. Next is a ten day wait for our PGS results of the biopsies. At 41, I have read that only 1 or 2 out of 10 will test normal. With six embies, I still have a chance for one. Fingers are crossed!

Wow!! This board has been busy today!! I love reading all the updates!! I don't have a lot of time right now to make personal notes but will try to later tonight.
@bells52000 they called me later then normal today too!! I was totally panicking. When they finally called I was in a meeting and just walked out!
Anyway, my day 3 update was even better!! I now have 4 embryos that are dividing!! Yes it went from 3 to 4!! Our embryologist said the one was a late fertilizer but is catching up - which she said sometimes this just happens. I was so happy as this gives us hope that we may have 2 to freeze. My hubby did the happy dance. He's a goofball sometimes. lol So tomorrow the embryologist will have the nurse call (instead of her) with out update and to schedule our transfer time for Thursday.
I also had a heart to heart with my boss today! Let him in on our journey and received his full support. He truely is one of the best and most sincere people I know.
@Joslynj11 - your transfer day sounds so rough! But glad they got your embryos transferred and I'll hope the stickiest of thoughts for you! I was disappointed when of our 15 eggs that in the end only 2 made it to normal and frozen...but those are the only two I need, so now am thrilled to be PUPO.
@bells52000 - those are awesome numbers and good odds! I hope there are more normals than you think!

@Joslynj11 - Stressful. Prayers that was the adventurous part and it is smooth and happy sailing from here.
AFM: I kind of got down with my news today. I have responded well, so egg retrieval is set Thursday. However, I have developed a polyp in my uterus, likely from my high estrogen. Apparently, it is big enough to act like an IUD and so the RE has said no to the fresh transfer. I have to have a D&C after my period and then start the journey for FET. Sigh. I was counting on this to be our last cycle ever. However, I'm trying to change my attitude that I want to give us the best chance to conceive. My fingers are crossed that I have good quality eggs, good PGS testings, and several make it to frozen status.
I'm so sorry @stranzm. I know how frustrating these hang ups can be. I developed a polyp when I was doing IUIs and I remember feeling devastated that we had to wait again. Nothing in this IF journey is easy or predictable. Hang in there girl. I keep reading great things about FETs so I'm trying to stay optimistic as well.

@stranzm that's hard to switch mindsets like that. You are right that this way will give you the best chance to conceive. Fx for good eggs and good, sticky embryos!

During my very first IVF consultation they did a uterine sounding that was akin to a mock transfer to get the "path" through the cervix and into the uterus mapped and then documented. They said the purpose was to make the actual transfer as easy as possible.
My sounding was extremely difficult and painful (even with ultrasound guidance). During my egg retrieval they're going to "put a stitch" in my cervix, in hope that that helps make the transfer easier. While I'm still out, they'll do another mock transfer (after the stitch is in). Then if that's still difficult, they'll manually dilate my cervix and hope it stays somewhat dilated until transfer. They are also going to prescribe me some Xanax for the transfer as well, to take the edge off.
Anyone else ever hear of putting a "stitch" in your cervix to help with transfer? I've heard of them to keep your cervix closed, but not to help keep it open!

@stranzm. I was pretty distraught over the cancelling of my fresh transfer. But like you, I am really trying to find the pluses. 1. I felt great to stop those f'in shots. Even if it is just temporarily. 2. The frozen spurred me to get the embies PGS tested. Hoping that leads to greater odds later. 3. I get to save my embryos for the best chance since they will concentrate on the lining for the frozen.
Even as I count my positives, I still wish I was having my transfer today! Hang in there! Fingers crossed for you!
On mock transfer issue... i didn't have one pre-transfer, but before they brought the embryos into the room (in their own incubator), once my RE put the speculum in, she passed a larger catheter through the cervix, watching on ultrasound, to make sure she could direct it to the best spot...essentially a mock transfer just before the real thing...then catheter with embryos was fed through that one and embabies were dropped off :-)

@bells52000 - Thanks. Yeah, at least I don't have to do PIO shots anytime soon. In addition, I can move all this sh*t around at the new house to my liking instead of being worried about lifting anything. So, I guess I"ll get myself settled here and maybe (a real maybe) try to exercise again and get in better shape prior. Sorry you didn't get to transfer today
@Kp214 - Thanks for the well wishes. My DH is already looking to the bright side, and I'm just going to get there. Just didn't meet my expectations today!
@lilmissslp - Thanks. Did you have to do a D&C? I'm not sure if I have yet another unpleasant medical procedure in my future or if its no big deal. I actually had an unsuccessful FET in March, and the protocol is a lot easier. My BFN was solely attributed to the "fair" embryo that was frozen. Unfortunately, we only had one frozen.
Thank you all for the well wishes today, it meant a lot!
It was so cool to seem them magnify the embryo and get to see all the details before transfer. The doctor said the embryo looked great and it was hatching away, so that was great news. Everything went smoothly, and now it looks like my beta will be 8/12. We also asked the embryologist to put the gender in an envelope, and we read it at lunch after the transfer. A girl !! Now we wait!
And a pic, of course. The embryologist explained that they basically turn the embryos from grapes into raisins to freeze them, and then when they thaw they plump back out into grapes. She took the picture right when she pulled it out to thaw, so it was kinda cool to hear the explanation and then see how differently it looked right before transfer.

Also, this is a general question for everyone: I keep reading about mock embryo transfers. Has anyone here done one? My RE did not perform a mock transfer and I don't really understand the point of them. Can someone clarify what the function is and if I should be nervous since I haven't had one?

@RVloution Thanks for the well wishes! Totally hear you about the pain. If you aren't already, drinking gatorade and using a heating pad made a huge difference for me!
With the mock embryo transfer, I did have one done before I started my stims. I think the only purpose is to make sure there aren't any surprises when it comes time for transfer (like your cervix bends in an unexpected way or something). So I don't think they are required, and you should be just fine! If something comes up during your transfer they have probably seen it before and will know how to adjust

What a ride!!!
@jodes727 I'm so sorry you went through that! Glad you're feeling better today! And YAY for frosties!!! FX you get even more!!

AFM, I hope embryo week doesn't cause the rest of you as much anxiety as it's been causing me. I am definitely feeling hopeful after our incredible day 3 update yesterday, but the nerves are starting to set in about getting the call tomorrow. rmarble23 - Good point, that makes sense that they can change each time.

@shauna43 and @LittleSunshine Good luck to you! What an amazing emotional experience. I wish you all the best.
@wifeinraleigh28 You must be close to hearing your day 5 update. Is it tomorrow? And I just noticed your dog looks a little like mine! So cute!
IVF: ER 7/16 40 follies, 23 eggs, 19 mature,
12 fert w/icsi, 6 blasts, 3 PGS norm, 1 unknown.
FET: 9/1/16 transferred 1 CP beta 5.9
FET 2: 11/15/16 transferred 1 CP again!
FET 3: TBD
AFM - I'm still waiting on AF to get here so that I can complete the last test necessary for insurance approval on my FET. An entire month come and gone and still no flow. Damn you PCOS and your unpredictable ways. I have been feeling AF coming on for a few days now so I'm hopeful to get this show on the road within the next week. At this point I will definitely be a Sep FET given it takes a couple of weeks for insurance to turnaround approvals. Ugh!

2015: 3 IUI's-BFN
12/2015: 1st IVF cycle-(9 follicles retrieved, 5 mature, 3 fertilized w/ICSI, transferred 1 excellent and 1 good embryo on day 3)-chemical pregnancy
3/2016: 2nd IVF cycle- canceled (3 follicles retrieved, 3 mature, all fertilized w/ICSI, 1 fragmented, 2 arrested)
3/2016: RE suggested donor eggs- taking an ivf break and to supplement
9/2016: 3rd ivf cycle-cancelled due to early ovulation
Oct./Nov 2016: 4th ivf cycle- EPP-AFC:5, retrieved 10, 10 mature, 8 fertilized with ICSI, 6 blastocysts biopsied and frozen. 3 CCS normal embryos
1/18/17: beta #1-104
1/20/17: beta #2-174
2/2/17: first u/s, heartbeat of 107 at 6w1d
7/20/17: baby boy born at 30+3 via emergency c-section
What at a roller coaster ride this is...

Hope everyone is having a wonderful evening!
@bells52000 - those are awesome numbers and good odds! I hope there are more normals than you think!

@Sunnshine how awesome that your numbers went UP! Awesome news! A great boss makes such a difference at work! You are lucky you get to try the fresh transfer! so exciting! Guessing she was late calling us both because she was biopsing my eggs and watching yours grow!

I've heard of them to keep your cervix closed, but not to help keep it open!

i didn't have one pre-transfer, but before they brought the embryos into the room (in their own incubator), once my RE put the speculum in, she passed a larger catheter through the cervix, watching on ultrasound, to make sure she could direct it to the best spot...essentially a mock transfer just before the real thing...then catheter with embryos was fed through that one and embabies were dropped off :-)

A girl
