Re: PGAL Check In 8/1

  • 1. How far along are you? 8 weeks 6 days

    2. Next milestone you're looking forward to? Next Monday for my first OB appointment- Don't really know what to expect because I never made it that far my last pregnancy.

    3. Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes: My weekend was pretty good- I went to a friend's housewarming party and again was able to hide drinking undetected ;)

Every weekend we speak with DH's parents over skype because they live in Germany. Saturday morning I just wasn't feeling up to it- was feeling tired and kind of nauseous. Apparently his Aunt and his Grandmother were over and they were bugging him about when we were going to have kids and that "I'm not getting any younger". Now they don't know anything about our loss (only his parents know) so I know they didn't mean any ill will by it but I was still annoyed- like wtf, mind your own womb people! I told DH I am still not ready to tell them yet so won't they all be in for a big surprise if all goes well over the next couple weeks!

This week is kind of triggering for me- I started spotting on 9w1d last time and found out I miscarried the next day at 9w2d- ended up having a D&C 3 days later. So being so close to passing this last loss milestone means a lot to me- trying to keep the PGAL brain at bay.

    4. GTKY: It's August already and I can't believe how summer is flying by- Fall is right around the corner (which is my favorite season btw)! What is your favorite fall activity? I am from Michigan so we are definitely known for our apples- I love going to the cider mill and getting apple cider and doughnuts. So good!!! Will have to double check this year to make sure the cider is pasteurized.

    2. Next milestone you're looking forward to?  making it to 8w with no spotting/bleeding and our next OB appointment on 8.16 where we'll finally hear the heartbeat and get an official measurement and due date (at 8w last time is when I had surgery to remove the ectopic pregnancy in my tube)

    3. Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes: we told our parents and siblings this weekend...my brother graduated with his masters degree so at lunch I gave him a card and my parents a card...the look on my mom's face was priceless...she cried...I cried...my dad even squeezed out a tear...they're both very excited.  DH's mom screamed and then cried...we had to threaten his parents not to tell anyone or else they wouldn't see the kid for the first year of its life :P  (his mom has a big mouth and a lot of his cousins are on Facebook...I don't want her telling them and then have them post something and take away from us getting to tell people)  Hopefully us having this baby will convince them to stop smoking...I really don't want my kid to smell like cigarette smoke every time they hold it

    4. GTKY: It's August already and I can't believe how summer is flying by- Fall is right around the corner (which is my favorite season btw)! What is your favorite fall activity?  College football (Go Georgia Bulldogs!)

@Spartanrd4 Why are grandparents so grandbaby-hungry?? Ugh. Every story about parents whining about not having grandchildren makes me wince at best and other times outright mad. Kids do not owe their parents grandchildren, just as they don't owe them a house, a car, or anything else outside of love and respect (and even that's only if the parents have given them love and respect in return). I realize that a vast majority of women sharing those stories on here do want kids, which makes it all the more hurtful and frustrating to get that kind of pressure. I wish people would mind their own business!! You're either making someone feel like they're supposed to have kids even though she don't want any, or worse, you're making a struggling couple feel terrible about not having a kid right then. Seriously, no good comes from those comments. /end rant

@ngcsugirl1112 Glad you had a great announcement! FX you have a smooth 8 week and get past the rough time with flying colors.  <3

    1. How far along are you? 7w6d

    2. Next milestone you're looking forward to? The 12-week check-up & NT screening on Sept. 1

    3. Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes: Almost 8 weeks! School is starting back up this month, so I am hoping it is a good distraction (most likely it will be - yeesh, school is starting up again already) and my next appt. arrives before I know it.

    4. GTKY: It's August already and I can't believe how summer is flying by- Fall is right around the corner (which is my favorite season btw)! What is your favorite fall activity? Football games (not huge into the sport but it's something that's fun to get into if our college football team is playing well), tailgating, pumpkin picking/carving, and baking pumpkin and apple pies.
  • mind your own womb people!
Favorite quote ever. Remind me to use this sometime!
  • 1. How far along are you? 7w3d

    2. Next milestone you're looking forward to? One week from today I have my first ultrasound and get to hear the heartbeat hopefully. I'm so excited that I can barely contain it, but I'm also terrified.

    3. Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes: I'm really torn about when to tell work... I started this job merely weeks before I found out I was pregnant... I'm hesitant to tell anyone before 12 weeks because... well we all know why. But August and September are REALLY busy weeks with some days that are spend almost entirely outside in the 90-110 degree heat... Do I say something before things get really crazy? Right now I'm considering possibly telling my direct supervisor after the ultrasound next week...

    4. GTKY: What is your favorite fall activity? I work in higher education administration, and the summer is long and boring without students on campus. My favorite day of the entire year is freshman move in day, and to me it is the beginning of Fall! It's all high energy and excitement as we finally welcome new students to the university. Less than 3 weeks away!

But also, let's talk about how welcome Fall weather will be, because this heat is surely going to be the death of me.
  • I agree @DaniBanani16....the hot weather makes me so nauseous! I've been a hermit the past couple weeks it has been in the 90s because I can't stand it. Good luck at your first ultrasound, I know it is scary but all we can do is try and be positive!!
  • @DaniBanani16 I'm in the same boat. I started my new job on July 1st. Telling my boss is terrifying to me as is trying to figure out how maternity leave will work when I've been at a company less than a year.

    1) 6 weeks 6 days
    2) ultrasound this afternoon! I'm so scared. I was up all night with an upset stomach and googling chances of second blighted ovum and does diharrea indicate misscarrage. Went down the googling shame hole. I can't wait till this appointment is over.
    3) Hate all this anxiety. I wish I could feel happy and hopefully and join the what would you name your baby, etc threads without fear of jinxing myself
    4) Fall is our summer in San Francisco. I'm looking forward to some warm weather. Taking the dog to the beach. Reading a book in the back yard.

  • 1. How far along are you?
    9w4d

    2. Next milestone you're looking forward to? Second trimester

    3. Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes:
I told my mom after my first appointment which was last week and she already started tell extended family (which I didn't plan on doing until September) at my grandmas birthday dinner yesterday. Then they all gave me a lecture about not being stressed out, taking it easy, going to the doctor if I feel bad, being in tune with my body, etc because of the previous loss

    4. GTKY: It's August already and I can't believe how summer is flying by- Fall is right around the corner (which is my favorite season btw)! What is your favorite fall activity?
I don't really have a favorite fall activity but one of my favorite holidays is Halloween and I'm excited about picking out costumes for me and DD
  • @BaylieGirl T&P for you this afternoon  <3 I understand the anxiety and truly hope you have a wonderful u/s. Please keep us posted.
Also - when I visited SF years ago, it was chilly in June! But I loved the city. Sounds like I'll have to visit again in the fall while it's getting chillier in the Midwest.

  • 1. How far along are you? 5+5

    2. Next milestone you're looking forward to?  Second US on Thursday.  Hopefully we see HB, have good labs, and everything is measuring on track.

    3. Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes:  I am having a horrible time with anxiety & pessimism.  I feel like so far this one feels absolutely no different than the last 3 did.  My symptoms aren't really escalating.  I don't really have many.  I obsessively check the betabase to get an idea what my levels should be today.  They aren't higher than I have ever had before (without MS) so it would make sense that I don't have it still.  This doesn't offer all that much reassurance though.   The rest of this week and all of next are going to be even more torturous than the last.

    4. GTKY: What is your favorite fall activity?  I just love the crisp weather.  Being able to wear hoodies and go for walks without sweating miserably.  Also, Halloween is my favorite holiday.  I can't wait to decorate.

  • 1. How far along are you? I don't know! A bit confused now since LMP and the first U/S disagreed... so, around 10 weeks.

    2. Next milestone you're looking forward to? August 12th is my next U/S and I hear that my little lump will look like a real baby, with a profile and everything!!! OH MY GOSH, [insert starry-eyed happy face emoji here even though it's not one of the message board options]

    3. Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes: I was a bridesmaid--in very tall high heels--this weekend and I was worried about how it would go while pregnant. I survived! Woohoo!

    4. GTKY: What is your favorite fall activity? So many little things. Walking the dog in reasonable weather instead of blazing heat, haha. Wearing cute sweaters and scarves and boots. Consuming pumpkin-spiced things (judge me all you want, but pumpkin spice muffins and lattes are 2 of my most favorite things in the WORLD). Also, good books always seem to come out in September--and this year I'm ready for the next Sarah J. Maas "Throne of Glass" installment. Usually I'm not into Halloween, but I have a great pregnant costume idea this year, so I'm kind of excited to try that too!

  • 1. How far along are you? 9 weeks 2 days (?)

    2. Next milestone you're looking forward to? the NEXT ob appt on 8/29

    3. Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes: I am taking a deep breath. My measurements today were not as far along as I thought they would be based on the (awful) US appt at the boutique. My H wants me to rely on the info the doctor gave us today instead of the wacky bowl scanning lady at the boutique but it is hard. So, I am waiting four more weeks to get rid of the anxiety.

    4. GTKY: It's August already and I can't believe how summer is flying by- Fall is right around the corner (which is my favorite season btw)! What is your favorite fall activity? Hopefully we will make it out to see my dad and go to the Georgia State Fair! YUM! Fair food!

    2. Next milestone you're looking forward to? My sister-in-law let me borrow her at home Doppler and I was able to find Bean's heartbeat last night! I don't want to cook the kid but I plan to take it on our anniversary trip next week to check in before next midwife visit Aug 24

    3. Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes: I think I'm feeling better... Kinda. Still sick everyday but having more good days lately. The ultrasound image took a HUGE load off my PGAL mind and I'm really enjoying the pregnancy. Count down to 13 weeks and it'll be the longest I've ever been pregnant

    4. GTKY: It's August already and I can't believe how summer is flying by- Fall is right around the corner (which is my favorite season btw)! What is your favorite fall activity? I love Fall as well! Perfect temperature, gorgeous colors, and the scarf possibilities! My husband and I celebrate the biblical feast days and Sukkot is my favorite. Time outside in the sukkah with friends and family... The best
  • @EnglishTeacherMama Ahh an U/S with a profile!?  Now I am getting psyched for such a thing, though it is a bit of a ways off for me. Sounds soo cute!!  You're getting there. Sending lots of positive vibes for your apt.

@BaylieGirl  I hope your U/S went well! Its 5pm here so idk if you had it yet but I am thinking perhaps you did.

    1. How far along are you? 9weeks today. This is the longest I've been pregnant.

    2. Next milestone you're looking forward to? I have an U/S tomorrow. I am of course nervous again. Hoping for everything to measure on time. I let the negative thoughts sneak in and it terrifies me so much that I am pushing it aside as best I can.

    3. Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes: Rant - it's Monday. the end.

    4. GTKY: It's August already and I can't believe how summer is flying by- Fall is right around the corner (which is my favorite season btw)! What is your favorite fall activity?
I LOOOOOVE fall. Thinking of fall *almost* snaps me out of the Monday blues. My favorite fall activity is baking. It finally cools down enough that I don't create an inferno in our kitchen.

I am also looking forward to my commute (which involves a lot of walking and waiting in subway stations) being bearable. First trimester and humidity+heat SUCKS.

    Pregnancy Ticker
  • @BaylieGirl Congrats on having a little bean! Just remember that sperm can live up to a few days, so you could have ovulated later than you'd initially suspected but still had gents waiting in the wing.
  • So happy to hear @BaylieGirl! Congrats for a great U/S!

    Pregnancy Ticker
  • Just got home from my appointment and there's a baby and a beating heart in the sac. She's measuring 6+2 but I'm almost positive I should be 6+6 considering hubby and I only DTD once that month due to my crazy work schedule. The doctor says not to worry but that's so hard not to do when I can't have a glass of wine right now to calm my nerves. I have a FU ultrasound in 2 weeks, but just so relieved that there's a real baby in the Sac this time around.
It is possible that your sweet LO took his/her time implanting! I will have everything crossed while you wait for an update!

  • @AverageAsh I wondered about late implantation too but wasn't sure if that affected the growth. So @BaylieGirl there are at least a couple variables that could explain why the dates are a bit off. I do understand though how easily the mind jumps to the negatives. FX for an u/s that will give you some peace of mind in a couple weeks.  <3

  • 1. How far along are you? 7 weeks

    2. Next milestone you're looking forward to? US tomorrow!!

    3. Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes: I am overwhelmed with my morning sickness... It is so bad . We are no info and I am taking care of my 18 mo yh old and it is hard to ask for help bexaus ewe don't want tell anyone yet. But I feel so awful I can't hide it. I am just sick all the time! Full stomach, empty, morning, afternoon, night. Odor got how hard the diet part was for me. With DD it was h til 14 weeks and with my angel baby until10 weeks when we lost them.

I am am trying not to complain because I am so happy and blessed to be pregnant but it is so hard. I feel so bad and I feel like I am failing DD and DH right now so I am depressed on top of it.

    4. GTKY: It's August already and I can't believe how summer is flying by- Fall is right around the corner (which is my favorite season btw)! What is your favorite fall activity?
Fall!! Watching football on Sunday in our comfy clothes, fall colors and thanksgiving!!

  • 1. How far along are you? 6 weeks 6 days

    2. Next milestone you're looking forward to? My appointment with high-risk on the 18th, which seems like years away right now!

    3. Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes: Yesterday I had my first ultrasound and it went so well! I was dreading it, fearing the worst. This is my 3rd pregnancy and the first time I got to see an ultrasound with a heartbeat. Baby is measuring perfectly and heart is beating away at 130 bpm.

Of course after all this excitement I had a nightmare last night about losing the baby and it woke me up enough that I went to the bathroom to check and see if everything was okay. It was fine but got to love PGAL brain even when you are sleeping... just let me have my moment of happiness! LOL

    4. GTKY: It's August already and I can't believe how summer is flying by- Fall is right around the corner (which is my favorite season btw)! What is your favorite fall activity? Watching football! (Steelers football to be exact). It's like religion around here and a great time to get together with family and friends. I love it!

I know how easy it is to let the mind wander but I hope that makes you feel better. Like the others said a few variables could explain the dates.

    4. GTKY: It's August already and I can't believe how summer is flying by- Fall is right around the corner (which is my favorite season btw)! What is your favorite fall activity? I cant wait to go to the pumpkin patch. In Hawaii they don't really do pumpkins so it will be great to be back in Cali and go to the corn maze with hubby and take Kat for the first time. Pick out our pumpkins and have snacks and take tons of pictures of course. I totally see her running around trying to pick up every pumpkin to take home. I have missed fall so much the last 2 years. It was 85 degrees last year in Oct lol definetly not fall weather.

I feel like my life is just on hold for two weeks waiting to either hear good or bad news with my confirmation US, and time is creeping by. This weekend, I even went so far as to tell DH what day I would have a D&C performed if we received bad news. I’m being such a negative person right now and need to snap out of it.

  • When you ladies went for your first scans did your doctors order bloodwork? Mine didn't, she just wants to see again in 2 weeks for a follow up scan. My PGAL brain is worrying that means the doctor really does think something is wrong with the baby measuring 4 days behind.

  • @BaylieGirl I got blood work done at my intake appointment and none at the dating ultrasound appointment
  • @BaylieGirl Mine does blood work at the first appointment, but every doctor/office/clinic does things differently. If there really was something wrong, I'd think blood work would be an appropriate step to take. However, if the doctor wasn't concerned, this could also be why she isn't urgent about it. Looking at things positively, she knows there's a next time.

I know it's nerve-wracking, and it can be hard to tell if a) the doctor sincerely isn't worried and believes everything looks great even if you think you should be a few days further along or b) the doctor has just seen a lot and figures "whatever happens will happen" and just doesn't want you to get worked up about it. The truth could lie somewhere in between. What's important now though is to remember that today, you are pregnant. Today, you have life inside of you that has every reason and right to be your rainbow baby.

It never hurts to contact your OB's office and ask about their typical procedure concerning blood work and when to expect getting it done. That way you'll know and may have a peace of mind regarding your doctor's decision.
  • I had the usually bloodwork they do at the first intake appointment except this time I had progesterone and betas added due to my loss history. Like PPs wouldn't hurt to call your OB office and inquire.
  • Hi everyone, new here to the BMB. I've been somewhat superstitious in joining given my history of previous losses. My friends @dubcompanion and @spartanrd4 can vouch that I'm not a complete weirdo.  ;)  I'm a two-time grad of TTCAL and have made so many good friends around these parts.

@BaylieGirl at my 6 week they did betas only cause I asked, at 9 weeks I had 8 tubes drawn and ultrasound. Many docs want to wait until your further along, maybe numbers are more reliable or maybe it's just not as valuable too early. If you trust your doctor take a deep breath, fight the PGAL brain!
