  • @marion0209 I just got back from a weekend trip in ft lauderdale. Was told not to worry about traveling there at the time I was going, and as soon as I got back these cases cropped up. I didn't notice any bites though. Good luck getting through this, I can't imagine how stressful it must be.

  • I'm in the north east, another few weeks and the weather will freeze them out at night. I personally get annoyed with mosquitos in general come mid summer.
  • Thinking of all the moms in the Southeast! You can get mosquito repellant wrist bands in most sporting goods stores and Off makes a clip-on fan that repels mosquitos as well - might be something to look into for extra protection.

  • My heart was breaking for you mama's in FL today. I can't imagine thr stress you must be dealing with.  Here's to a very SHORT summer and solution.

Don't forget there is Zika specific all natural spray out there. Got some on Amazon.

To be honest, if I were in a high risk area, I would avoid the all natural repellent in favor of a repellent containing DEET. It's what the experts recommend as most effective. Maybe this is something best reserved for UO, but I think there is a time and a place for "all natural", but this is not it. When it comes down to it, I'd rather slather myself in a DEET repellent than risk having a baby with microcephaly.
When we went to mosquito territory this year I used both. Mosquitos are the worst.

  • I feel your pain @marion0209 I live about two hours from Miami and was meant to go there in a few weeks to see family. I am scared and covering myself in DEET!! Hang in there mama!!
  • There's this product I heard about called the Dynatrap. It's supposed to trap all the mosquitos and hornets and stuff either in a half acre or full acre. I think it takes a couple of weeks to be completely effective but for southern mamas it might be worth looking into. I don't work for them or anything it was on QVC or something

Good point and I don't disagree.  When I responded I  was more thinking all natural bc my son gnaws on my skin constantly and wouldn't want him sucking on my deet soaked arm.

Anyone see updates about West Nile? I haven't researched it yet but my brother just sent me an article that is been confirmed in Maryland.

  • We have our first case of West Nile in San Diego. I hate mosquitos so so much.

Thank you all so much for your kind words.  I use the repellent with deet. They even gave me a bottle at my first US appointment.  Everyone is freaking out here. I also wear long sleeves and pants...hang in there everyone :)
  • I'm on South Florida too, my husband has been begging me to stay inside as much as possible. My Dr. told me yesterday to use the repellents with DEET when I do go out. She also told us we should use condoms, just in case my husband is bitten and the since the disease can sometimes come without symptoms.
  • I feel bad for all the athletes and spectators at the olympics in Brazil, I think they should have rethought that location, especially in summer with all that's going on
