Re: Moms who go Bump in the night/Randoms

  • Yeah we seem to be going through this phase.  The crying isn't that dire yet, but he is definitely being a little bit more high maintenance. My Boba wrap has been awesome as well.  I have been using it on the weekends.

My DH sometimes takes him outside in the morning and evening for a little bit and the kid is just completely enamored with it.  Anyone else notice this?

  • @egirl1025 my girl was throwing a fit and I told my husband to step outside with her. He couldn't figure out why but as soon as he did she stopped crying immediately. I think the drastic change in temp and scenery confused her enough she forgot she was mad.
  • My baby does the hold his breath turn beet red and then cry hysterically. Sometimes he is hungry and sometimes he wants to be held. It usually happens after he has been sleeping.

  • Ladies using the boba or Moby wraps, help me! I have tried the boba every day for a week but I can never get the dang thing tight enough. I'm following the directions to a T but I am convinced I am missing some secret trick! Tell me I'm not nuts (or just too sleep deprived to understand lol).

When you tighten it, do you pull the whole "strap" or do you pull it in sections? When I use the wrap I have to start from the top with a little bit of fabric, pull, gather a little more, pull a little more, pull and repeat till I have all the fabric in my hand.  That's the only way it's tight enough for me.
  • I will have to try that! I've been pulling the whole thing at once and then cursing when it's loose. Thanks so much for the tip!!!
  • My body must be so confused half of the week we get nice long stretches of sleep and the other half LO can't make it more than 2.5hrs. Make less milk nevermind we need more milk!!

  • Took LO to my cousins wedding tonight which was outdoors in a tent, the music was SO much louder than I had anticipated! (The tent had full sides so the sound was exaggerated) She wasn't upset by it at all and was an absolute dream the whole time! We ended up leaving about an hour early after a particularly loud song because I was getting worried. Of course now I'm worried that I permanently damaged her hearing or impaired her neurological development in some way :#

  • S was wide awake and full of smiles at 4:30 this morning. Part of me wanted to keep if dark and not interact so that he would pick up the cues and go back to sleep, but I just can't pass up the opportunity to spend time with such a happy baby! Of course now he is back to sleep and I'm wide awake.

At least he was in a good mood!  :) Mine woke up at 6am (progress from yesterday's 5am wake-up) fussing and crying. Tried to get him back to sleep without luck so I picked him up and headed to the couch...where he promptly fell asleep in my arms. Guess he just wanted to be held.

As long as you didn't stand directly in front of a speaker you're probably fine.

We're going to an outdoor concert in September and we bought these gems just in case:

Came with matching sunglasses. They will fit her for a long time and we tend to do a lot of loud activities so I figured they would be good to have on hand. Plus she looks hilariously adorable in them!
I almost bought those on Amazon last week, I may need to get them for our next wedding!

People thought we were kidding when we put those one our baby registry. Can't wait to take him to shows and festivals!
  • @vintagevix2016 that sounds like how our morning progressed. I tried to put S in the rock n play when he went back to sleep but he was having none of it. He only wanted to nap in my arms.
  • The past few days baby girl (7 weeks today) has been SUPER clingy. Wants to be held often and sleep on me and wails if she wakes up and isnt being held. But when she is being held she is content as heck. She doesn't even want to be put down for diaper changes. She throws all of her limbs out like her startle reflex is high again. So yesterday and today all we have really been doing is sleeping and eating. Any one else had their baby go through a clingy stage? Oh, and her wailing is like, open mouth holding her breath no noise coming out for a second kind of wailing. The only other time she cries like that has been when she is tired of being in her car seat.

Super happy to snuggle her and reassure her since that's what she needs right now. And she obviously isn't that uncomfortable because she slept awesome last night! 5 1/2 hours is her record! Just wondering if any one else's little person got super needy out of no where. LOVED my new Moby wrap today because I had my hands free to bake her cake for her baptism tomorrow while she happily slept on my chest.
I have a lot of days like this - my LO will be 7 weeks on Tuesday. It's exhausting and draining. Thankfully we have good days scattered in between or I would go completely crazy.
  • Ugh past few nights were are having such a hard time putting DS to sleep.  He acts so tired so we feed him like usual and because he has some reflux I try and put him on my chest for 15-20 min so he'll fall asleep but he hates resting on our chests for some reason.  It makes me sad cause I wanna cuddle but he doesn't.  Then one of two things happen, he either will cry on us and be wide awake until we just wait it out for an hour or he'll fall asleep on me, but as soon as I out him down, he opens his eyes like "oh hey mom".  It used to be that after his last feed he'd be so tired I could just put him down and he'd sleep for a minimum of 5 hours without a peep.  I wonder if this is part of some kinda growth spurt cause during the day he is eating more. Idk i'm just so tired.

Word for word what is going on here. LO used to just pass out and was often still awake when I layed her down in her crib at night and would just pass out. Now she is super tiered but fighting sleep for like an hour before we get her down. I tried to get LO to nap on my chest Friday because her brother was at grandmas and she just fussed and fussed till I layed her in her crib. She's also nursing more and waking more at night. I'm not sure what's going on I had some bleeding after starting the mini pill and was wondering if that was affecting my supply.
Edited to also add my usually super fast nurser has started nursing like 30 min at night. I have been having to pull her off once she's asleep because I don't think she'd ever stop.  :#

  • Omg the spit up tonight. I know they say it always seems like a lot more than it really is, but still. He is actually spitting up while eating now...I think he probably needed to burp but usually when he needs to burp he pulls off and grunts so I know to burp him. This time he was just nursing happy as can be and then just blech out of nowhere. I would say it was somewhat forceful but I don't know whether to call it projectile or not. I cant believe a baby can spit up this much, it's insane. I'm doing his laundry minimum every 3 days because I run out of burp cloths, sheets, swaddles, everything. Pedi says not to worry unless he seems in pain or is projectile vomiting after every feeding. He seems perfectly happy and is gaining well so I know it's not a medical issue but I'm pretty sure I'm never going to not smell like spit up again. I went to hug dd earlier tonight and she said ugh what's that smell? Thanks, kid  :'(

I don't have any good suggestions for you but we're going through the same thing over here. Yesterday S was awake all evening until 9 pm, when I fed him and held him until he went to sleep. He was out, and then the second I set him in his crib his eyes were wide open. I miss the days when he would just pass out and stay asleep with no work in our part!
  • Congratulations!!! Our LO was baptized last week and it was beautiful : ) of course now that she's officially Catholic she was making a ruckus today, crying at mass. I actually BF'ed her in the empty choir loft lol, and without a nipple shield. Between the noisy infant at church and the BFing in random places I felt like a real mom haha!
  • I -think- we are on the other side of the colicky phase...I say that with great hesitation because I don't want to jinx myself. That said, after crossing off the medical underlying issues that we thought were contributing to his meltdowns, the only thing left was to sort out his napping. He was still fighting me on that front and the result was still a daily meltdown BUT to a much lesser degree. I wouldn't even call it a meltdown, just super fussy.

As a result, I'm trying to incorporate more naps into his day. Since he feels better and I have some new strategies under my belt to use, it hasn't been as much of a battle. In the past few of days, I've gotten him to take at least 2 (sometimes 3) naps in the morning that were about 45mins long each and then 2-3 in the afternoon (one afternoon he had 1 short nap and one 3hr nap). Lastly, he has has a cat nap in the evening.

Not gonna lie, he seems like a whole new baby! He's all smiles and chatty when we is awake. It's been great thus far! His nighttimes haven't changed except that he has one 4hr stretch lately, which is cool. I'd like to work on pushing his morning rise to a later time but I think I'll deal with that once naptime is handled.

Is my nap goal unrealistic though? I do wonder if having maybe one long nap in the morning and one long nap in the afternoon is a better route to go but I really have no idea. So I'm curious, what does your baby's naptime "schedule" look like and are you happy with it?

I do know that I can't keep him to too much if a rigid schedule yet but I want to lay the ground work. I also still try to follow his lead.

@Lizbeth86 yes! Having to take her out mid-mass because of the fussing makes me feel so mom-ish. My husband isn't Catholic so he never minds when she fusses so he can leave!

Also, we were late to her baptism mass! Luckily we had already planned to do it after mass but we had forgotten the St. Jude run was that day and got stuck behind a whole bunch of runners and RVs. We made it just in time to run in and take the gifts up for communion. And I have been eyeing the choir loft this whole time as a perfect breastfeeding venue.

Congrats on sans nipple shield!! That is a huge accomplishment!

Edited because even though I reviewed it I still noticed a mistake as soon as I hit save.

I basically go by how long he can stay awake in a good mood.  I notice that his first nap will start about an hour after he wakes up and his last should be no later then 3-4 hours before bedtime cause otherwise he's just not tired.  Then the other maps kinda fall into place from there and I let him stay awake/asleep as king as he wants.

Sounds like a good way to go to me. I'd venture to say trying to put down a baby that isn't remotely tired is nothing but trouble. For now I'm taking my cues from him and putting him down whenever he shows signs that he is tired as well. It is interesting to see the sleep pattern form and I figure from that I can figure out some kind of a loose schedule. Since he does try to fight it tho, I am trying some stuff to encourage him to sleep when I lay him down and I'm happy with the results thus far. It takes some work but it isn't too taxing. I'm leaning towards letting him dictate how long to sleep too, unless it's super close to his bedtime.

haha we were almost late to her baptism mass too, it's so hard to be anywhere at a certain time when you're breastfeeding!

I was excited that we could nurse without the nipple shield, but I tried it again when we got home and it hurt too much : ( i think I'll try to go back to the LC before risking more nipple damage  : (

Thats s good idea. I've been thinking about going back to check in with  LC again just to see if there is anything else we should be doing. We are also making an appointment with a pediatric dentist to see about getting her evaluated for a possible slight tongue tie. I still want her to be able to feed without the nipple shield so badly!!!
  • Question: we decided not to open a new box of newborn diapers because the newborn seemed like they were starting to get snug on her. But size 1s seem HUGE again. Like, ginormous on her. Maybe I just got used to the newborns looking snug and comfy and am just surprised with how big these seem in comparison. How did all of you know when it was time to move up in diaper size?

Also, found out the hard way she has a sensitivity to Luvs. We were given a bunch at a work shower and used the newborn ones before switching to Huggies. Then had size 1 to use so started with the Luv size 1. Both times now that she wore Luvs she got a horrible diaper rash within days of wearing them. I didnt make the connection before but now it can't just be coincidence. She ends up with red abrasion looking marks on her poor tushie. Hate when she is hurting and uncomfortable! Back to Huggies for us and hoping to get the rash cleared up quickly.

I assume you'd know when to go up when the newborns feel tight and you can't fit two fingers in the waist anymore.  I don't really know cause I use cloth.
  • I used size 1s pretty early bc i felt like the newborns were too small to get around her thighs lol. She was on the bigger side (8 lb 6 oz) at birth. I still think the size 1s are too big, they fit her thighs but sag at the bottom, but they seem to be working ok.

We switched to size 1 (just last week) when we noticed the leg holes and waist were leaving more noticeable imprints. They always left a little bit of one but it was getting to be a bit much. He does look like he's swimming in the size 1 for now but we fold the front down a little bit and that seems to help.
  • Oh I forgot about folding down the waist! That will help. She is swimming in size 1 and the leg holes seem big. Newborns I guess weren't that snug. We could still slip fingers in the waistband and the leg holes weren't snug. Maybe we will pick up one more box of newborns (just took three back to target!) The legs are gaping enough on the size 1 that when she is laying on her side feeding, pee leaks out if I'm not careful.

My boy's become a bit of a roly-poly so I'm sure that's why the leg holes and waist were so snug on him. It sounds like your LO isn't quite ready for the size 1 since it leaks. We were worried about that when we switched but haven't had any issues so I guess he was ready.

We were so prepared for a bigger baby because of my GD and what they were "estimating" she would be when she was born. So when she came out at 6lbs9oz 19inch and then dropped down to 5lbs 12oz we have been surprised with how little she was and seems to be staying! I think she is up to 21inches now (no clue on current weight) and she is just now growing out of newborn clothes but 0-3 month are really baggy on her. Just never exected she would be in newborn clothes until almost 2 months! (She will be two months on the 10th).
  • I moved my little guy to size ones two weeks ago when he started daycare.  I figured he had hit the weight mark for that size and he was starting to have more blow outs up the back.  The size ones are huge, but have been working good as long as we get them on tight enough. I am thinking that I have about another week or two before he completely outgrows all of his newborn clothes though.

I thought our son would be small because I was carrying very small (even though I knew full well that carrying small meant absolutely nothing). He started out at 7.1lbs/20.2in, dropped weight to 6.9lbs, and he's now sitting just shy of 11lbs. He'll be 7wks on Thursday. He fits into some of his newborn outfits but not many, most are super stretched when he wears them so we've started using some of the 0-3 months. Not gonna lie, it was really hard making the jump...I just want him to be tiny forever  :(

We switched over to ones when she was about 4 weeks old, maybe 8ish pounds? At first the looked huge but we never had any leakage so figured we were ok. The newborn size was starting to leave bigger indents in her legs.
  • We are debating not opening our last box of newborn diapers but are not sure. The size 1 are a little big but don't seem too bad. We don't know how much he weighs but his 2 month appt is Friday. It's nice to see others are in the same predicament.

  • I'm wondering if I should change the order of our bedtime routine.  Since DS needs to be upright for a bit after eating, feed to sleep doesn't work for us anymore (god I miss those days). Currently we do massage, story, feed, cuddle, sleep.  Should we try massage, feed, story, cuddle, sleep?  He's not the best cuddler these days so that may still not work and I know he'll be awake when we lay him down but he's awake anyways cause of having to keep him upright.  Unless someone has a magic tip that will get him to start falling asleep after eating again so I can just out him on my chest and let him snooze while I wait 15 min before setting him down.

Some times I feed on one side, burp and change and swaddle then feed on the other side. She gets sleepy on the breast then and seems to transition well to sleep at that point.
