C-Section Mamas

Re: C-Section Mamas

  • Just scheduled my repeat c section at my 32 week appt.  Originally we scheduled it for 9/6, but I had them change it to 9/9 because I didn't want to miss my son's first day of pre-school on 9/8. They weren't happy about it as it's now only 1 day before my due date--but it's their fault that they won't do planned c sections over Labor Day weekend.

I will also be having a "gentle" c section.

  • I found this article this morning and thought it was pretty amazing. Just wanted to share.

@asht @mom2adoodle I'm not sure why I thought that you had to go under general anesthesia? I'm going to blame pregnancy brain.
  • @drmh22 I know putting the mother under during a c-section used to be common practice. My mother in law had to go under for my husband and brother in-law but that was 35 years ago. I think if there are major complications or if the spinal block does not work then they will put you under.
  • I just scheduled mine last week, for first thing in the morning on September 6th (Edd is 9/10). I must say it is very nice this time around knowing when it's going down & what I'm in for. I'm also having my hernia repaired at the same time so I hope it doesn't effect my recovery too much.. Good luck to everyone!
  • @JWarfield726 this article helps explain it (https://www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2015/03/09/390977656/the-gentle-cesarean-more-like-a-birth-than-an-operation).  My doctor doesn't do the clear drape, but she did say she would lower it if I wanted to see the baby coming out :)
  • I was able to schedule my RCS today, baby girl will be here August 26th bright and early! That's 4 weeks from tomorrow! Even though it's the date I wanted and I'm very happy about it the actual putting the date & time on the calender has made it seem so real.
  • @PugMama11  I read up on the Gentle C-Section Tuesday evening before my doc appt and hospital tour on Wednesday.  I LOVED what I read!  After speaking with my doctor and the nurse who did our hospital tour, I will be the first person to go through with the gentle c-section in that hospital!  I am so excited!
  • I have a stupid question. Or two.

When you have a c-section, you have the same post partum vaginal bleeding as you would have after a vaginal birth, right? I mean, it's the same blood it's still got to go somewhere, right?

But I'm imagining that a sitz bath and witch hazel, etc  are unnecessary because your vagina is not actually going to be the part that's particularly tender?

Very clueless. Someone needs to throw me a bone.

@KimmySchmidt not stupid questions. But to answer, yes and yes (assuming you didn't spend any or a long time pushing?). I wish it allowed us to get out of postpartum bleeding but mother nature can be an evil bitch.

  • @KimmySchmidt not necessarily. Some OBGYN's will sort of help clean your uterus out a little during the c section and you will have less bleeding. My old OB did this and I had very little PP bleeding, not even up to snuff with my normal periods, but my new OB does not do that so I'm sure it will be a whole different story this time.

Good to know. That would be really nice. I'll have to ask about this at the next appointment.

I think it varies. It's pretty common for them to suck things out good while they are in there. I still bled pretty heavy for a week or so then reduced but needing pads for a full 8 weeks
  • @KimmySchmidt the bleeding I experienced was similar to a period. It was 4 days and nothing a normal pad couldn't handle. I don't know how normal that is but that has been my experience.

  • I bled after both C-sections, and was told that I was "cleared out".  I bled for one week like a normal period then it was pretty light for another 2 weeks or so after that.  I also labored before both so I'm sure that made a difference.
  • Just got mine scheduled for Sept 9, 4 days before my due date.  I don't think I'll make it to then though.  And I'm scared as crap to go into labor on my own!

I'm right there with you... At this point I told my husband we are going to try and induce labor as soon as I hit 39 weeks because my patience is running thin and I'm just ready.  He thinks I've lost my mind.
