  • @rdh33 and @aishmc hello fellow Hobbits!  :D:D

I've pretty much been eating like a Hobbit lately too. Idk what I'm going to do when I have to start classes again in August. I hope my professors don't mind me snacking in class! :D

My confession: I'm upset I haven't been able to go into work this week because I'm sick.
I know I should just take the time and get better, but it's frustrating. I keep thinking of how is harder for others because I'm not there, and I should be well enough by now. I never call in sick and I absolutely have the time, but it still pisses me off...
The only reason I'm not pushing it is for baby,  I'd be going in regardless otherwise. Though, if not for baby I'd probably be over this already.

Eta: tb ate some of my post.
  • We had a nanny for my daughter from 6 months until about 16 months when she started are her current school.  We paid her under the table and I don't feel at all bad about it...in fact, I want to go the same route with this baby and am hoping we find another nanny who is OK with it.

  • I suppose that I'm an "attachment parent". My husband and I don't believe in letting our children cry. We give them what they need, and it that's a boob 7 times a night...So be it.  My fffc: This pregnancy has made me HATE attachment parenting.
  • Lol @cjs260 what's mine? When I made up this username when I was a teenager I never considered that it's basically not pronounceable lol.

  • After telling my husband to make sure to make his breakfast at home this morning (because we are on a tight budget) I went and bought myself donuts for breakfast. I paid cash so he'll never know but I do feel a tad guilty... I rationalized it by telling myself that if my glucose test comes back positive then I will have to change my diet and cut out the sweets.

  • FFFC: I would love it if my husband came home one day and told me that he quit his job.  I seriously hate it and we have enough saved up to be okay for a little while until he found a new one. I also think the motivation of quitting and extra time would help in the search.

He is so unhappy there and the work/life balance is awful.  We both know that it likely isn't going to work out long term but its hard to take the time to find a job he really likes when he is constantly working late, weekends, nights etc.

@ThePax89 I had dreams of being an attachment parent when I was pregnant with DS but it wasn't for us.  I honestly don't understand how people with more than one young child even do it.  I mean logically I assume it must work out for some families but after being climbed, cuddled, kissed and played with all day by my kids I am so touched out by bedtime.

Here's mine: I don't own a microwave or have TV and have zero intention of getting either after baby arrives. Technically, we possess a TV -- it's hanging on the wall in our office -- but we moved into our new house 3.5 months ago and have yet to plug it in.

    Edit: autocorrect
  • @ElleMF728 I assume that I'll sleep in one room with the baby, and DH will sleep in another room with our toddler, who sleeps in bed most nights. It's going to work great for our marriage obviously.
  • @aishmc  and @rdh33 I am also on the Hobbit Meal Plan.  Second breakfast is my favorite, by far.  It's the only way I can get through the day.

@katesmama0706 with my first pregnancy I followed all the food rules. I ended up eating peaches that were recalled for listeria and got really sick. So I had to be monitored by a perinatologist a few times. Baby was fine but it was a big scare.

    Edit: spelling
  • @underthesea holy terrifying! I remember that recall! Wasn't it the summer before our littles were born? Mostly Costco, Sam's, and trader joes?
  • @katesmama0706 I guess I don't do those things when I'm not pregnant either. So it's no huge sacrifice. If pickles were a listeria risk, I'd have an issue
  • @katesmama0706 Yup, listeria is most often found in soil/water so fruits and veggies can get a lot of exposure. There was a cantaloupe outbreak some years back and I remember hearing that the listeria was so resilient that even if the cantaloupe was washed on the outside the melon would still be contaminated when the knife cut through it. I don't avoid deli meat, soft serve, or sushi because I could literally get listeria from anything and I don't think that limiting those foods reduces my chances at all.

However, I refuse any and all alcohol during pregnancy. In the past I was an addiction counselor and I've seen far too many effects of drugs/alcohol on babies to want to bother with it.

  • I have done zero work today, despite having quite a large pile of large tasks to do. I came in late because we had our first daycare tour, and after getting to the office I called my dad to chat for about an hour. It's almost 1:30 pacific time, and I'm thinking about going home...
