October 2016 Moms

Moms of Multiples 7/25

Good morning! I seriously can't believe this is the last July check-in; how is it already August next week?! We are getting so close!

1. How far along and what are you carrying?

2. Upcoming milestones or appointments?

3. Rants/Raves/Positives

4. Question of the week: Lots of people mentioned talking labor plans, so let's hear them. (I may re-ask this in another month once we are even closer and more informed.)

Re: Moms of Multiples 7/25

  • 1. How far along and what are you carrying?
    27+2 di/di girls

    2. Upcoming milestones or appointments?
Cervix scan and hopefully growth scan on Thursday. We are seeing the MFM and OB every two weeks now, and they are on separate weeks - so we are essentially seeing a doctor every week.

    3. Rants/Raves/Positives
So happy we have made it to the third trimester! After that scary preterm labor episode, I call every new week a success. Nervous to see how the cervix scan goes, since last time I was feeling pretty good about it, we ended up in the hospital.

Rant: I cannot sleep anymore. Once I fall asleep, I'm good. However, now I have restless legs and painful hips, gas in my back and trouble breathing if I'm not on an incline. The snoogle doesn't help my hips anymore and I can't lay on my back too long because then my butt hurts. The struggle.

    4. Question of the week: Lots of people mentioned talking labor plans, so let's hear them. (I may re-ask this in another month once we are even closer and more informed.)
My labor "plans" aren't involving a whole lot of planning, since twins kind of do what they want anyway. I would like to try for a vaginal birth since they are both head down now, but I know there's a pretty good chance of still needing a csec after baby A is born, if baby B decides it's a free for all with all the newly acquired room. C sections and vaginal births both have aspects that scare me, so I'm a little worried about both, but I hope to have both vaginally.

    29+1; boy/girl twins

    2. Upcoming milestones or appointments?

I have NO appointments this week, and it feels odd.  I've had one for the past 5-6 weeks between growth scans & cervix checks and regular appointments.  My next OB apt is next week with a growth scan & BPP the following week.  I'll go every 2 weeks until 32 weeks, and then I think 1x per week after that for OB/NSTs.

I'm sure I'll be getting hubby to use my at home Doppler a few times just for peace of mind.  I try not to break it out too often, but it was well worth the money.  I didn't have it during my first pregnancy, but I've been more anxious this time around.  We had a hard time using it during early pregnancy, but now I've come to depend on it for weeks like this.

    3. Rants/Raves/Positives

One of my OBs won't really discuss scheduling past the next visit each time.  I know things can change, but I'm such a planner, I'd like to have it sort of mapped out in my mind with the knowledge that it might happen earlier.

I'm feeling so much better than I have been, and I don't know if it's less stress from increased viability, or just the phase of pregnancy.  Don't get me wrong, I'm very much to the hard to roll over in bed stage, and waddling instead of walking, but it doesn't seem like there's as much pressure as there was a few weeks ago, and morning sickness, although still present, only hits about 1x per week.

    4. Question of the week: Lots of people mentioned talking labor plans, so let's hear them. (I may re-ask this in another month once we are even closer and more informed.)

I'm thinking scheduled C-section.  I was induced with DS at 39 weeks due to GD, and after laboring all day had to have a C-section

    1. How far along and what are you carrying?

    28w MoDi Girls

    2. Upcoming milestones or appointments?

3rd Trimester!! Have my OB appointment on Wednesday, planning on talking about when to be induced if I make it to 36 weeks

    3. Rants/Raves/Positives

Getting a little nervous about the potential of being induced and actually having to delivery 2 babies, having to do 1 was nerve wrecking enough. There is just so much that can wrong/un-planned. My OB is also a little younger and not as familiar with twins and isn't completely comfortable with turning Baby B if she flips after Baby A is delivered, there will be another more experienced doc in the OR with us to try and turn if that's the case, but still makes me a little nervous.

    4. Question of the week: Lots of people mentioned talking labor plans, so let's hear them. (I may re-ask this in another month once we are even closer and more informed.)

Hoping for vaginal delivery but won't push too hard for it if the C-section is in our girl's best interest.

  • 1. How far along and what are you carrying?
    30 + 2 di/di boy & girl

    2. Upcoming milestones or appointments?
My next MFM/growth US and OB appt is at 32 weeks.  I've been seeing the OB every 2 weeks and we're still every 4 weeks for the MFM Dr.

    3. Rants/Raves/Positives
Raves:  First short term goal hit!! It feels very good to be passed the 30 week mark and also so surreal that the babies will be here in 8 weeks or less.

Rants: @sjo_thetwins  I hear you on the non-sleep.  I've been trying to steal naps when I can to help the cause.  My only other rant is baby B keeps kicking near my ribs and it feels almost bruised.  It's so amazing that he's moving but ow! & baby A is still breech and seems to enjoy kicking down - causing some electric jolts down there and not in a good way...

    4. Question of the week: Lots of people mentioned talking labor plans, so let's hear them. (I may re-ask this in another month once we are even closer and more informed.)
So - baby A is still breech.  I actually scheduled a c-section this morning for 38 weeks + 2.  So - if the babies decide to stay that long they will be here 8 weeks from today!  So crazy!! If baby A flips I would really like to try to deliver vaginally but we will just see what they are feeling as it gets closer :)
  • 1. How far along and what are you carrying?
    29+6, di di boys

    2. Upcoming appointments or milestones:
OB appointment tomorrow, supposed to be just a quick check-in. 30 weeks tomorrow! My next short-term goal is 32, which is the earliest point that my hospital will take us without sending us to a higher level NICU.

    3. Rants/Raves/Positives:
Also the sleep problems. Once I'm out, I'm fine, but all my tricks that have been helping are not winning against restless legs, neck aching, hips hurting, babies jumping around, etc.

On the positive side, I started getting my hospital bag together and the nursery is getting closer to finished! Feeling a little more prepared.

    4. Labor plans:
I'm hoping for a med-free vaginal delivery, like my first. My OB is excited about that prospect as long as the babies are in favorable positions. The main issue is that they flip around so much they have been in completely different positions every single appointment!
  • @kmvisioli  I thought of another question for our weekly check in.  Share pics of the nursery?  Maybe still a few weeks out but it seems like more and more we are all getting close to having finished products :)
  • 1. How far along and what are you carrying?
    29+3; twin boys.

    2. Upcoming milestones or appointments?
OB on Thursday. MFM next week. Goal term of 32 weeks in 18 days. 18. Short. Days.

    3. Rants/Raves/Positives
Rant: the boys have dropped significantly since Friday. I can breathe now, but I feel like they are literally falling out. I'm also "leaking" and I'm pretty sure it's urine because it doesn't happen all day, but it still makes me nervous since my belly is lower and looks smaller.

Rave: DH is installing the flooring today. We started it yesterday and before one of us filed for divorce, we stopped. FIL is going to help him today.

    4. Question of the week: Lots of people mentioned talking labor plans, so let's hear them. (I may re-ask this in another month once we are even closer and more informed.)

As of today I will be drugging myself up and hoping for a vaginal delivery. I know that the possibility of a c-section is high and I'm okay with that. I just want to be able to do skin to skin and hold them after labor.

    27w4d with boy/girl twins

    2. Upcoming milestones or appointments?
Thursday I see MFM for a bpp and OB check in on Friday, plus another round of glocose testing

    3. Rants/Raves/Positives
Daisy's still with us, which is great. I've even noticed increased movement but I'm pretty overwhelmed with terror that the next time I doppler her she'll be gone. I'm praying she's growing still, but we don't have another growth scan until next week. So my hopes for this appointment are pretty low, expecting more of the same "poor cord flow." And I feel y'allon not sleeping. I can't fall asleep, I can't stay asleep. Between discomfort, stress, and peeing constantly, its been a real struggle.

    4. Question of the week: Lots of people mentioned talking labor plans, so let's hear them.
I literally have no plan. I just want to get far enough, and get them out. If we can get Daisy big enough it'll likely be a csection because she won't be able to handle the stress of a vaginal delivery. If she doesnt make it, who knows? They're both breech like 90% of the time anyway.
  • @nlane0723   Skin to skin time is incredibly important to me too :).  You should ask your ob and L&D what they do for skin to skin time even if you have to have a c section.  At our hospital they still do it right away assuming everything's ok with mom and babies.  They also do a delayed bath so you can do skin to skin as soon as possible - which I love!
  • @lmno304 I'm not a multiples mom, just a twin myself, but I've been lurking and following your situation in silence, and although I've never been the praying type, I have some prayers for you and your Daisy. I wish you and that little girl the best of luck in the world and am cheering for a pull-through. Stay strong ::hugs::
  • @lmno304  I send prayers of stength for you and Daisy everyday!! I hope all goes well this week at your appts.
  • @girvin21 thanks- I was planning on saving that one until end of August, when their rooms are more finished :) I do have a few other photo questions for the next few weeks, though!

Welp, after mentioning my hope of a vaginal delivery, both babies were totally breech at my appointment this morning. Next u/s is in two weeks (on my birthday!) and there is still some time for them to flip, though it's pretty crowded in there at this point. We'll see.
  • I hope they flip!

  • @kmvisioli I hope they flip too! Did they say how long they usually have to be able to flip as twins? I feel like I'm running out of room now at 27 weeks so I can't imagine y'all that are a little farther along. SO doesn't seem convinced we will keep them in for even another month and I'm starting to worry too.
  • Thanks @nlane0723 and @sjo_thetwins. My cousin (also a twin mom) added me to a MOM fb group, and those girls all said their twins kept rearranging and were able to flip even up to 36/37 weeks, so I have some hope. The downside is that it is so painful when they shift around at this point.
  •  @kmvisioli That's crazy that can still flip that late in the game (I'm hoping baby girl flips but I'm also feeling so crammed!!). I hope they flip back ASAP for you and then stay put! Sending painless flipping vibes your way :)
  • 1. How far along and what are you carrying?
    28 weeks mo/di girls

    2. Upcoming milestones or appointments?
MFM tomorrow, reg ob aug 2

    3. Rants/Raves/Positives
These girls are definitely  getting stronger and bigger! I'm loving all the kicks and squirms.
On the flip side, baby A has proceeded to kick my rib out of place...owie!

I was so excited about doing a natural, med-free birth, but with twins there are so many more regulations for L&D. Hoping tho to hit 36 weeks so I can delivery at our small town hospital with my regular dr. and get as close as possible to that. If we go early than that, I'm stuck at a big town hospital with an OB who is much bigger on interventions and technology :/

Just wanted to update y'all after the appointment today. More bad news unfortunately. We now have reversal of flow in the umbilical cord which is a very bad sign. Likely a heart defect and possible chromosomal abnormality like triploidy. She has very very low fluid too. We were told that she was expecting us to come in today and for her to have passed in the last week, based on our last scan. No clues on growth since it was only a bpp week, but it's not looking good. We're holding on to the literal shreds of hope we've got left. Thanks again for being here for me through all of this. I'm truly humbled by the support you've given me these last couple months. I'm probably going to be taking a step back from the boards but I'll let y'all know if anything changes.
