Re: Moms who go Bump in the night/Randoms

  • LO does a 5 hour stretch sometimes but she goes down at 8 so by time I'm asleep around 1030 I get half of it. I've tried to keep her up till 9 but an over tiered baby never makes it longer than 3 hrs from what I've experienced with her. One day ladies we will all sleep again!!

  • Dd is doing one 6-7 hour sleep now when she first goes to bed at 8pm, so I feed her once between 2-3am and she's up for the day usually around 6.

Despite te being tired all the time, I'm actually kind of enjoying the quiet time with her since she only wakes up once. It's the only time I'm alone with her. Also, I'm likely never going to get to snuggle a newborn in the middle of the night again, so I better enjoy it now

  • This is completely OT and random but I'm feeding dd and its on my mind.

In September I'm hosting a brunch at my house for a friend who's having her second baby. No gifts or games, just a fun excuse for us to get together, eat, and have our husbands watch the kids on a Saturday.
Does anyone have any fun, creative, or just delicious brunch favorites? I could always just do the basics, but I thought it would be fun to have something a little special. There will probably only be 10 or fewer people there.

  • Positive- she's napping and not on me... Negative- tummy time did not go well! :D

And yes, she is 100% supervised or else there wouldn't be a lose blanket on her!
Man she's got a head of hair! I thought mine had a lot...

I know right! My son has male patterned baldness going on, so that's fun (his hair in that area is suuuuper blonde compare to the rest so it looks like he is bald).

I have an really good pasta salad recipe:
chop: yellow and green bell pepper, tomato, purple onion, black olives mix with bow tie pasta, feta cheese, garlic salt, pepper and salt to taste and newmans own family Italian dressing. It's amazing just room temp or cold people can't get enough. Warning if you can't find that exact dressing it's not near as good but it's not hard to find.

I also have a pasta salad but it's a little different, rotisserie chicken, cubed mozzarella, the fresh stuff is best, halved cherry tomatoes, mini bow tie pasta, and coat in pesto. Pesto recipe 2 cups basil, 1/2 cup Parmesan, 1/3 cup raw cashews, 3 garlic cloves, pulse in food processor then add 1/2 cup or so of olive oil. Salt and pepper to taste. It makes a good amount but I always freeze the left over and then defrost in the fridge the day I want to use the remainder.
  • Thanks @HeartLikeMine3 and @rlbrooks84
i never even thought of pasta salad for a brunch

  • @AmberLiz99 @HeartLikeMine3 @Laur51615 @June2016BabyW have you tried doing a dream feed? My DD is still doing only 3 hr stretches, but I can restart her clock by feeding her while she's asleep immediately before I go to bed. That way she doesn't wake up an hour after I've gone to sleep and I'm not keeping myself awake waiting for her to want to eat. Sometimes it goes better than others, but so far I haven't woken her up and sometimes I can get a full 3-4 hour sleep.

I've heard if dream feeds. I'm nervous to try it cause DS sleeps so well and once he's down for that stretch the feeding after that he wakes every 3 hours. It would suck to feed him at 8, dream feed at 10 then end up with him waking at 1-2 instead of the 3-4 he would normally wake.  However it would be awesome if he slept from 10-5:30 which is when DH wakes up for work anyway.  Maybe I should try it. Lol

Agree. I'd rather get up once than totally mess up the good sleep she has going. She's only 5 weeks, so I'm not complaining. But this is my third kid, so I'm used to not sleeping ;)

I've heard of it and it would be worth trying on the weekend especially if I stay up later. The only problem is now that she does 5 hrs I usually have a glass or two of wine so then I couldnt nurse before bed  :#
Guess if I was tiered enough of pick the sleep over wine haha!

  • Oh man you guys, I gotta send this lady to you.  I've never seen DS fall asleep so easy.  He passed out while getting craniosacral therapy today lol..

  • Any of you ladies losing hair? I'm pretty sure it's normal - but it's really quite annoying. I sure hope it subsides soon!

I'm not this time but after my twin pregnancy it was falling out in clumps for like 9 months : (

I had it really bad with son a few years ago to the point it was noticeable or at least I felt it was! It gets better but just depends it took like 6 months last time but this time I haven't had issues yet.
  • Holy moly.  We are approaching 8 hours here.  I've been up for the last 45 min waiting for him to want food but so far he's just let out a grunt or two every 10-15 min.  Since 2 am I've been sleeping lightly cause I'm just waiting for him to wake. He's only 7 weeks, I feel like this isn't normal.

Last night ds slept 10-4:45. Tonight it was 10-3:45. Previously he was doing 10-2ish, so these stretches seem super long to me and make me nervous. I'm going to ask the Dr at his 2 mo appt next week but I already know I'm going to get the "be grateful he's sleeping so well" speech.

Wow, that's crazy! I like to think your LO is just becoming an awesome sleeper but I totally see why it is a bit unnerving. Mine is finally sleeping in 4hr stretches, or at least once a night, and I still wake up early expecting him to wake at any moment.

Hopefully 8 hrs is the norm for him!
  • As long as baby doesn't have weight problems sleeping long is fine! At one month dd did 7 hours one night. By 11 weeks my first baby was sleeping from 8:30pm-5:30am. Every baby is so different

I haven't gotten to 8 hours, but we have been pushing 6 hours.  I was kind of mad last night because my hubby brought the baby to bed at 12:30 and the baby hadn't fed since 6. Naturally DS then woke up to eat, but now i am pumping and waiting for him to wake up again... Last time we did this he was awake to eat at 4:30 which sucked because he wanted to eat when we needed to walk out the door for daycare, which is why I was a little peeved.

I too worry about how much he is sleeping, but he is awake a lot at daycare.  Makes me sad that I miss so much awake time :(

ETA: DS will be 8 weeks on Sunday
  • Oh yeah definitely no weight issues.  7 weeks old today and has gained 5lbs since birth.
  • My LO just slept from 830-515. But he also only slept for about 1.5 hours yesterday during the day. It seems to be a trade off.
  • My LO still wants to sleep all day too I feel like she's  barely awake. 1.5 hours in the morning then again about 3-430 and then I wake her by 6 and try to keep her up till 8-830. That's a lot of sleep so basically most days she's up like 6 hrs max.

  • My son slept for a 4hr stretch at one point last night, it was great...except like many of you, I was p at the 3hr mark waiting for him to wake up at any minute.

Sidenote: He is 6wks today, hoping this is the worst of the colicky period and we start seeing better days soon!

Eeeek don't tell me that lol. I have long hair so I feel it's really noticeable. I'm tempted to get another few inches cut off to make it a little more manageable.

I was afraid of this truth. Everything I'm reading says it takes up to a year before it's "normal" again. Why does pregnancy and post partum stuff keep ruining my body??

My son decided that 5:30am was a great time to be fully awake. I tried to put him down but might as well stay up at this point. We have to do a feeding just before 7am and then head to his ultrasound appt anyway. Grrrr. Gonna be an extra exhausting day.

Edit: Aaaand now we are both covered in vomit. Bath time!

That sucks! Charlotte went down at 8:30 and just woke up at 4:30, but she's almost back asleep, she can go back to sleep if she wakes before 6. If she wakes up after 6 then she's up for awhile. I could have gotten some great sleep if my dogs hadn't been freaking out for an hour because of the thunder. We kennel them at night and they were trying to dig their way out, seriously you're in a plastic box! I checked on them and tried putting a towel over the kennels because that usually helps but they kept at it for a bit! I swear if it's not the baby its one of my older boys and now the dogs! I just want to sleep uninterrupted. My LO will do these awesome long stretches some nights and I always seem to get woken up by something else. Ok rant over, I feel better.
  • Holy crap. My kid slept from 1130pm til 5am. I couldn't believe the clock when I looked at it! She went 6 1/2 hours between feedings. It almost makes up for her being both ridiculously clingy yesterday and for throwing some grand tantrums out of no where for no apparent reason. And to the people telling me "she is just finding her voice" stfu.

Only now I've been up since 5am. So we will see how today goes!!
  • My LO usually does at least a 5 hr stretch but last night she decided she was brand new again and couldn't go more than 2.5 hrs all night wth?

Yeah remember how the other day DS went 8 hours? Yeeeeah, he made up too. Lol

Vintagevix86 here and that's my post...must not have realized I was in an old account or something...

Still at the hospital. He had his ultrasound and when the guy left to verify the images, I asked if I could feed him since he was supposed to fast for 2hrs and he was hungry. He said sure, so I did. Then he came back to say he needed more images aaand now we have to wait for the milk to pass.

I'm right there with you guys.  Two nights in a row of 7+ hour stretches, I was like "this is great!"  Yeah no.  We're back to three hours, plus the night before last we had a super fun wide awake and fussy interlude from 3-5.
  • My kid fed every hour last night. I'm napping every minute he naps today. Eff my messy house!
  • My kid fed every hour last night. I'm napping every minute he naps today. Eff my messy house!

Ugh yeah, got one of those little robot vacuums so at least there dog and cat hair gets picked up for me but the rest is just a cluttered mess, behold my dining room has become a catch all!

  • The past few days baby girl (7 weeks today) has been SUPER clingy. Wants to be held often and sleep on me and wails if she wakes up and isnt being held. But when she is being held she is content as heck. She doesn't even want to be put down for diaper changes. She throws all of her limbs out like her startle reflex is high again. So yesterday and today all we have really been doing is sleeping and eating. Any one else had their baby go through a clingy stage? Oh, and her wailing is like, open mouth holding her breath no noise coming out for a second kind of wailing. The only other time she cries like that has been when she is tired of being in her car seat.

Super happy to snuggle her and reassure her since that's what she needs right now. And she obviously isn't that uncomfortable because she slept awesome last night! 5 1/2 hours is her record! Just wondering if any one else's little person got super needy out of no where. LOVED my new Moby wrap today because I had my hands free to bake her cake for her baptism tomorrow while she happily slept on my chest.
  • Yup all my LOs have gone through it multiple times. I'll never forget when my first was about one and decided he wanted daddy to do the bedtime routine with him and no longer wanted me doing. I cried for the first 3 nights of it. It's just one more phase, but the cuddles are my favorite. It does make it challenging to get stuff done.
