Re: August/September IVF/FET

  • Hi ladies I'm joining you from the June July board after getting my BFN today. It was my first try with IVF and it was a fresh cycle. I know my doctor really wants me to wait a month but I'm going to try to convince him to let me try a frozen cycle in August when I'm still off of work. Over the next couple of days I'm going to read all the threads on this board to try to get to know you all. I wish you all luck in this journey.

  • @lilmisslp- welcome to the group, but so sorry you are here! I can't imagine how hard that is and my thoughts are with you. I totally understand wanting to get going again right away in August. If you have some frozen, I don't see why that should be an issue? I could see how doing two fresh right in a row would be hard on the body... but my understanding is that the drugs so much less for the FET. Good luck and hope you are able to get going soon!

  • @lilmissslp I hate that we are both over here :(. My RE was actually all about me starting again right away but a planned vacation for me and DH is delaying things about 5 weeks. Hopefully yours will let you start again in August
  • @RVloution I started my stims last Thursday and have had a dull headache that won't quit.  Just starting to feel a little bloating, but not too bad yet!! I started on gonal F 225 that was just increased to 300, and Menopur 75.

@kyrgyzshan does the bloat go away when u get the trigger shot??

@ADRIANAC1982 I had my first ultra sound yesterday and got pretty much the same results as  you! 18 total, 16 measuring above 5mm and biggest at 8mm.  They upped my gonal F to 300 and menopur staying at 75.  I go back in tomorrow. When is your ER planned for?

    @bells52000 at 41 I would 100% do PGS!

@mtpbadger happy to have a familiar face but so sad we're both here! Im glad to hear your RE was on board with moving forward and I hope mine will be too! I'm sure a vacation will be nice!

@Andreap681 I'm not happy to be back either but trying to move forward. Glad to hear you've got 18 growing!

  • @bells52000 I just met with my RE today to discuss my next cycle. This will be my 3rd try. The first 2 ended with all but one of the embryos dying and the last one that was transferred was a very poor quality. My doc said today that she'd think that we wouldn't even be able to do testing since my embryos don't seem to want to make it to day 5 so we wouldn't have any to test. So, since you don't know the outcome of your eggs and how many fertilize, I'd ask if there's a way to check quality early on (day 2?) and play it by ear- if that's a choice. I'm 35 and came in to IVF not wanting to "waste" extra time on testing, but now it looks like I wouldn't even be able to if I'd chosen to do it. I hope your embryos are great quality and have good PGS results!! Good luck!!

AFM - I met w my RE today to consult about my cycle. This will be my 3rd try and she's changing up the protocol for estrogen priming with patches this time around. I'll go back on Friday (day 10) to check follicles and trigger ovulation when told. Next week I'll start vivelle patches until my period comes and then immediately start injections. Looks like end of August retrieval and transfer.  I'm frustrated with this roller coaster we're on but glad for the quick turn around into the next cycle!
  • @kyrgyzshan I hate seeing familiar faces over here! Glad that your RE has a different plan for you, fx that it will work! I'll be starting my second FET the end of August so maybe we will be transfer buddies! (if my lining cooperates this time)
  • @kyrgyzshan I had much better luck with the patches than with the estrogen pills. i hope those work better for you.

@lilmisssip Sorry to hear about your BFN. Glad you are joining us here.

Day 1 of meds for me today ... I just took the Clomid after work and am quite paranoid about the side effects. None of the normal IVF meds have affected me much other than always feeling gassy; hopefully Clomid doesn't mess me up too much :worried:
  • @lrynwnab FYI on Clomid I had major hot flashes, especially at night where I would wake up drenched. Other than that I didn't have other side effects.

@kyrgyzshan my RE is putting me on the patches this next go-round as well. Fx that is it trick for both of us
  • @lilmissslp I'm so sorry to hear the news. I too got a BFN from my fresh IVF in May/June. As I mentioned in my earlier post, I was waaay overstimulated... I think they said my estrogen was in the 2000 range (normal is 200!!), so they weren't too surprised with my results. Bc of that, they made me take a break before my FET. My body needed a month for my estrogen and progesterone to go back to normal levels. I understand wanting to start as soon as possible, but sometimes it's better to let your body rest and be in perfect condition to conceive! Wishing you the best! Many *hugs*!

  • @bells52000 I'm in CA, about 45 min from Natera, they still take a week at least to get the results.
  • @babylonghorn16 and @lilmissslp - welcome to the august/september thread! i'm so so sorry to see the two of you here, but it's nice to "see" familiar faces...!
  • @PhotogDana. Waiting a week will drive me crazy.   @JamieH2000 @kyrgyzshan @gatorlorit  @babylonghorn16 and @Andreap681. Thank you for your help and insights! I am back on the positive side of getting the testing done! If I am fortunate enough for some of these to make it to day 5, I think it is worth it to just go all in for whatever gives this the best chance of working.  I have to freeze no matter what because my prog was 2.79 at trigger day.  So I have to wait no matter what to do the transfer.

What was so unclear to me for freaking days is finally a no brainier.  Thanks.

welcome @mtpbadger I hope things go well for you!  This is a smart place to be. The people here have great knowledge. As a newbie, it is really helpful!

  • @LeFemmeViolette - I'm so sorry that you're having a rough day today! Hopefully the PGS testing will come back with some positive results. Donating blood is a great way to honor him! thinking of you today!
  • @Andreap681 The RE hasnt told us about the date for the ER, for some reason they dont like to give dates that way.  So I just patiently wait for the next round of instructions.  The nurse last night told me probably another week of meds though.....Blah

I got back tomorrow for another ultrasound and b/w so well see.  My head is killing though so the sooner the better, I suffer from migraines so this does not help especially when I can only take tylenol.

  • @lilmissslp - I'm really glad that you're feeling better about the plan and that you'll get to jump right in to a FET! Knowing the next steps always makes waiting easier, than not knowing and feeling stuck in "limbo"!
  • I just received our results from PGS testing. Of the four remaining embryos, only one tested normal. One.

Apparently the other three were all missing chromosomes. I'm just shocked. I really thought the results would be better. I know one is better than none, and one is "all you need" but shit...

This pretty much guarantees we have to go through this bullshit again. Whether this one fails or even if it doesn't and we want to have another kid.

On top of all this, my husband is out of town, and therefore I now have to have a Dr appointment to discuss how shitty our embryos are tomorrow by myself.

I'm sorry to be so negative. This day was hard enough already and I feel like I just got kicked while I'm down.

  • @LeFemmeViolette I'm really sorry you're going through that and particularly that you'll have to attend the appointment alone.  I've had to fly solo during tough visits with the specialist and I know how hard it is.  Take it easy on yourself - you are well within your right to be negative about this.  Sometimes you can't just "look on the bright side" when it comes to IF.  It just flat out sucks.
  • @LeFemmeViolette - I'm so sorry about the embryo results...hopefully your doctor will have some ideas on how to improve egg quality or whatnot that you can implement for the next round. Also, I think that if/when you go give blood today, you should steal ALLLLLLL the cookies...and then go get yourself a nice bottle of wine. and/or ice cream. you deserve it, especially if DH is out of town today!

(side note: we used to never keep ice cream and/or a lot of junk food in the house. lately though (since the ivf journey started), there's been a resident tub of Breyer's in the freezer, along with hot fudge and whipped cream in the fridge and jimmies in the pantry...)
  • @LeFemmeViolette oh gosh, I'm so sorry today has been so crappy already. Sometimes there is nothing to do but to just be negative and curse this whole process... I love to get a bottle of wine and throw a "pity party" when I'm particularly down. When the time is right, you'll pick yourself up and continue to do whatever is necessary... just takes a little time. I wish you had gotten better news. Keep holding on hope! You will be so much stronger for it! <3 hugs to you!

@lilmissslp glad your RE agreed to start your next cycle!! So exciting! FX for you!

AFM - moving along with these PIO shots! The shot itself isn't too bad - I ice beforehand so I don't feel much - but the soreness after is no joke. Attempted an early jog this morn, and ended up speed walking. Felt like someone was punching me in the left butt cheek with every stride! The funniest thing is that my DH said this morn "it's insane how many shots you have to take!!"... I was like, this is nothing! I was doing 3 a day before my ER... he just wasn't administering, so he didn't realize. So these PIO shots have gotten him closer to the action, which gives him a whole new appreciation for what I'm going through... silver lining, girls! ;)  lol

Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day. When I hear about PGS results like that... I just wonder how the heck anyone gets pregnant naturally in 1,2, or 3 months! Life is just not fair sometimes.

@lilmissslp - So glad you are getting started right away. I think it really helps to move on from a BFN when you can get going again right away.

@Rachnan- congrats on being PUPO!! Did you transfer 1 or 2 if I may ask?

  • @rachnan yay! Glad your transfer went well and you are resting and enjoying the next two days.

@lefemmeviolette sorry you are having a bad day. ::Hugs::

@wifeinraleigh28 what great numbers!! Yay for triggering and good luck on Friday! Do you have any special socks or anything planned for you and DH after?

There is so much going on today. Welcome to all the new commers and wishing the best of luck to all those starting stims/ER/ET over the next few days!!

Update: Had my check in appt today. I had one egg measuring ahead of the rest at 20mm the others were between 13-17mm with a few lagging behind that he didn't bother measuring. He asked me if I could hold off and do an extra day of stims tonight and come back tomorrow morning. He prefers we do this and let atleast one more follicle catch up a bit. With that I'll trigger tomorrow and ER will now be Saturday. I am ok with that because the funeral is Friday and now I don't have to stress about missing it or trying time ER to still make a portion, etc. I am however feeling really "full" and so ready to be over this.

A plus for Saturday retrieval is the RE I saw today will be the one doing it! He is very personable and one of the easiest ones to talk to. So I'm excited about that.

  • Hi all! I'm new to this thread but not new to the board. I see lots of familiar faces from my last cycle (waves hi). I've been creeping on this thread and quietly cheering you ladies on for a while but didn't quite feel ready to post until today.

I am currently waiting for AF to start my next FET cycle with a transfer happening hopefully around the middle of August. Once AF shows up, I will have a better idea of our schedule. We're doing e-patches, ganerelix, and PIO this cycle. Fingers crossed that FET #3 is the lucky one for us.

Random question for you ladies. I have certain go-to songs that I like to listen to during a cycle, especially at night before I go to sleep - to keep myself focused and calm and hopeful. For all 4 of my cycles, that has always been Bon Iver's Holocene. But I'm considering trying a new song. Does anyone else do this? Any suggestions for favorite calming/hopeful songs? Please share! :)

  • @BlueEyedDreamer Hiiii!!! Glad you're joining this board! I really love Simon and Garfunkel's Only Living Boy in New York. When I hear it, I immediately relax. Such a lovely tune! Not sure if the lyrics are very meaningful per say... but one of them is "Hey, I've got nothing to do today but smile." which makes me happy. Take a listen! Hope you like it! FX for your upcoming FET!

  • @BlueEyedDreamer - welcome, and it's nice to see you here on this thread, but i hope your stay won't be long

Here's to hoping that AF comes quickly so you can start the protocol for your FET!

  • @LeFemmeViolette I am soooo very sorry to hear about your day, and so very sorry for the bad news. I am sending you my thoughts and prayers!

@Rachnan Great to hear the transfer went well and congrats on being the first one PUPO!!

@wifeinraleigh28 Great numbers you have there! I had 23 follies ready for my ER and out of them 15 were able to mature with ICIS. I didn't do PGS testing so not sure how many of my 8 that made it to freeze were normal but we will just keep on transferring!! GL with your ER on Friday!!

@Sunnshine Good luck with your retrieval this weekend as well!!

I can't wait to see more retrievals in the next week!!

AFM  I had my final U/S and BW appointment this morning. Coordinator called back and we got  the final green light on the transfer! My lining was 10b( I think they said that anyways...all I know it was more than 10) and my ovaries were nice and quiet! So yay on that! I had to wait FOREVER to go over 10 mins of paperwork with my coordinator because the couple before me was learning how to do injections so I literally left the Dr. Office this morning at 11:20 and I got there at 9:30! Can't wait for those days to be over haha(the days of waiting that is). I went ahead and scheduled my Beta. They wanted me to come in on Monday the 15th but I asked if there was ANY WAY I could come on the Friday before. I said waiting til Monday would be horrible so they said it would be fine!
