Teething

OMFG, teething.  Kiddo just sprouted her first tooth.  Only the top ridge so far, but OMG it's sharp.  Like a little razor.  I can tell we're workin on pushing the rest of it over the gums, and it's mate, bc we were up every other hour all night long.....  thank goodness for cold brew coffee, haha.

Any other LOs going through teething hell?  Everyone tells me the first pair and final molars are the worst.  Any tips?  We've been using Hyland nighttime teething tabs, they calm her down enough from RAGE to 'pretty uncomfy but I guess I'll doze off for now' so bless to whoever invented those things!

Re: Teething

  • Our pediatrician advised us to give LO tylenol when he's in a lot of pain.  We also use Orajel Naturals.  Tylenol has been a life saver.  We've only used it twice.
At the moment, LO has 5 teeth coming out at once (4 on top and 1 on the bottom).  LO has a total of 7 teeth.  He's been in a lot of pain.
Also, when his 1st 2 teeth pooped through  (4 days apart), all he wanted was mom.  We snuggled a ton.
Teething toys helped a lot.  Also, he didn't want much of his bottle bc the sucking hurts him.  We gave him more solids.  I also gave him his formula with a spoon.  It took forever, but was able to get some nutrition from it.
Also, babies can develop a fever, have diarrhea or even lose a little bit of weight.
    Hope this helps.

@lialetellier 5 at once?  Your poor kid! :(   We've used Tylenol a bit, too, at night.  LO wants NOTHING to do with solids (unless its cold-from-the-fridge watermelon), just nurse all day (and night) long.  And clingy/snuggly too, ring sling + chew beads necklace were our life savers today.  We have a few refrigerated teething toys, but they don't stay cold for very long, I froze some celery and cucumber strips so hopefully those help.

We are right there with you! Just felt that his first tooth pushed through today  I am glad it's there but the last few nights have been a little sleepless. He is nursing a TON and wants to gnaw on everything, he has had some diarrhea too. I find ibuprofen to be more effective than Tylenol, but maybe it's just me. He only gets it when he really can't sleep at night, otherwise we most do cold rags/fruit. It will be great when all the teeth are there!!
  • @AmoLovesAud, yes, 5 teeth at once.  4 on top and 1 on the bottom.  Looks like another one will be making an appearance soon.  It has been a rough 2 weeks.  Luckily, he has mostly slept through the night.  There were a couple of nights where he woke up on a full-on scream and wouldn't stop crying.  DH and I would run to his room and calm him down.  We've had our good days and not so good days.  The good thing is that all of them popped through.
I bought him a baby toothbrush from Oral B.  I brush his teeth twice a day.  He enjoys that because I also brush his gums.  After bottles, I wrap my finger on a wet washcloth and clean his gums.  He likes the pressure.
Hope your little one is feeling better
