3rd Trimester

How much is LO going to cost you getting here?

I just got my pre-registry information back from the hospital...I am planning a regular delivery at the hospital..After insurance, we owe about $1300 for a 2 day stay...I've only had to pay 20% of sonograms as well...No extra cost for my doctor's visits..What are you going to be out to get your little angel here??

  • $400: $200 copay inpatient check in for me, $200 inpatient check in for baby

  • $32 was how much it cost after having my first, I imagine it will be the same. Lol, if it weren't for hubby's Tricare, it would be insane.

  • $250 hospital stay copay for me and for baby = $500.  Plus whatever remains of our family deductible and then 30% of remaining charges.  It will probably total out to be a couple thousand dollars when all is said and done.  Yet another reason why I really don't want an epi this time if I can help it - those doctors charge like $2,000 to spend 15 minutes putting in an epidural.  I'd rather spend the portion I pay for that on a doula, which I am.

  • Probably our full out of pocket - $5K.   Sad thing is DH works for a healthcare company and this is the lovely insurance plan they chose for their employees.

  • Almost $5K....crappy insurance thanks to DH (he's in insurance sales and prefers to have a high deductible plan - ??? - Don't ask).

My daughter cost me $30 - the entire pregnancy through birth!

  • I have a $3,000 deductible...so $3,000+ since my deductible starts over on January 1st, so all my appointments before January 1st won't count towards this year's deductible.  Yeah, our baby is expensive. And I'm totally jealous of people that have good insurance.
  • Max of $750 coinsurance since policy waives the $500 deductible for L&D.

How do you guys even guesstimate how much it's going to cost??  I have no clue how much it is going to cost since I'm a FTM.  I do know my hospital stay is free since I'm staying within my hospital system approved by insurance, but I have no clue how much the docs cost, anesthesia, etc.

I forgot that I had an unplanned home birth so I didn't use a lot of hospital services beyond the after care and the 2 overnight stays.

  • About $150 for everything from OB visits, ultra sounds, labor and delivery, and the total hospital stay.

  • About $3500 when all is said and done.  We have to meet a $1000 deductible and then our max out of pocket is $2500.  Sucks but we'll just have to set up a payment plan with the hospital once we get our final bill.

Call your insurance.  They should be able to give you the cost of all of the things you listed.

B/c my hospital already sent me a bill for my delivery that is due 2 wks before my EDD.  They based the amount on the fact that I will have a vaginal delivery.

  • Zero. Thank goodness. My insurance covers all pregnancy related expenses.
  • Nothing. I had insurance in the most ghetto areas only until right before I got pregnant and they expanded where you could go. I got lucky and have an awesome plan for real cheap through my work. Every single thing is covered for pregnancies. No copay. I am really glad I didn't cancel (I was about to tell them I didn't want it anymore the day before I found out I was pregs).
  • Nothing. One of the many perks of being a military family!

DD cost us about $2500 so that's about what I expect this one to cost as well since it's on the same insurance.

Don't be surprised if you think it's going to cost you X amount of dollars but you keep getting bills in the mail...

  • $0.  Thank you Canada.

  • We are extremely lucky and I have amazing insurance.  One $10 copay for my first prenatal appointment, which the practice refunded to me, twice, by accident.  She we've made $10 on this LO.
  • I too am paying nada! In the beginning I was paying $30 per visit and $130 for sonograms. I would have had to pay $1500 for delivery. I did some research on state funded programs and qualified for 8 weeks until after LO gets here.

  • So far have paid 982.00 in bills.  our family deductible is 1500.00 (restarts January 1st).  So our our of pocket cost should be 1500.00

I'm just hoping I am right!  I feel like they always "get" me on something!

  • $4K if the baby stays out of the NICU, $8K if they go in (my deductibles).  I am so jealous of all of you with much better insurance!
  • 3,000+

It's overwhelming when I think about it so i try not to... but it is what it is, it's totally worth it :)

  • $0 so far and I'm pretty positive I won't be paying for our hospital visit either. I'm still on my dad's government insurance plus I have medicaid to supplement it so we got lucky!

  • I live in Canada so this baby will cost us nothing to get here. Unless we update to a private room (which we probably will) that will cost us $20 total.

  • I will add (I mentioned earlier that I will be paying about $6K due to insurance) however, on a normal year (when I am not giving birth and am taking care of a famil of three - soon to be four), our insurance doesn't cost us but maybe $1200 out of our pockets where it could cost us upwards of $10K.  DH's employer pays a portion but it would still cost that much out of DH's pocket...so, in reality we are still saving!

  • $250 for the OB

$360 for my endocrinologist (for diabetes)

$10 per ultrasound...so about $100 in the end

$600 for genetic testing and ultrasound at 13 weeks

$600 for vaginal birth at the hospital or $1200 for c/s

Total: $1910-$2510  plus anything additional they decide to bill me for...

I work at a hospital and I'm always surprised how poor their insurance policies are for their own employees
