Weekly PGAL Check in 7.18.16

Re: Weekly PGAL Check in 7.18.16

  • @LoneStar21416 I am having this issue too... Like, I have been having really good results so far at all my appointments, so I almost feel... trivial... for still having the occasional bad thought that pops in, and I don't want to acknowledge it. I go back and forth between feeling "well, I'm feeling okay this week, so don't want to take up space" and "ugh, this is a totally irrational fear, and it's got no basis in reality, the check-in should be for people that really need it"... which is really undermining the point of the group, because not only are irrational fears what this board is geared for, but also I think these fears ebb and flow over the course of the pregnancy, and I'm sure we're all going to have times when we need these check-ins more...
  • Loading the player...
  • I will say, sometimes just admitting irrational fears to others does wonders to help get passed it. Like it gives clarity you can't get when you just try to ignore it. So it might be helpful to post those more "trivial" feelings - I can't imagine anyone eye rolling or being annoyed by that - like you said they ebb and flow and we understand how those random irrational fears pop up. I mean I literally cried about a week ago because I woke up thinking about how when Cletus the fetus goes off to college he might get into drugs. I mean full on ugly crying - and it sort of bothered me the rest of the day even though I quit crying about it - how is that for irrational - but the minute I confided in my husband when he got home from work I was able to let it go.

I think we should just all be open about talking about whatever after we all check in. I really like seeing where everyone is, thinking about them when they have their appointments, and the GTKY questions. But I think we should feel comfortable talking about our irrational fears, overwhelming joy, and random things that have nothing to do with pregnancy. Honestly, PGAL and (Tuesday) Ticker Change are the only symbolence of organization around these parts anymore, which is a haven for me. Please let's not ditch the check-in questions.

  • Ok, so here's what's been bothering me the last 2 days.  This conveniently started AFTER my appointment on Monday, of course.  I've been having uncomfortable GI symptoms for a while, so that's not out of the ordinary.  But, over the last two days, I also feel like I've developed this dull ache that comes and goes in my very low abdomen.  I mostly notice it when I've been sitting for a while.  I also feel like I have some pressure or fullness.  It's not pelvic pressure I don't think because it's more up in my abdomen - pretty much where I think baby is based on how the doctor measured me on Monday and where she was able to find him/her during the ultrasound.  I've just felt like my whole stomach has been off and like I have some kind of constant feeling in there.  It's hard for me to figure out if it's fullness from gas (which I have plenty of), some kind of stretching from RLP, or something that is actually wrong.  I know I'm not doing a good job of describing this.  I have no idea if this is normal.  I would assume we should be feeling aches and pains and twinges as things continue to grow, but this just feels present more often than not the last two days.  I'm going to go back in to the doctor tomorrow.  I'm just having a hard time trying to figure out if I'm being an alarmist or not.  I have no idea what to expect as  FTM and my PGAL brain is killing me.
  • Alarmist or not - I'm glad you are getting checked out - I kind of feel like we are all going to be paying a lot for 9 months of care (if you have a low or no deductible you still have to pay for insurance monthly) and if getting checked out lets you relax and enjoy your pregnancy more I think that's part of what you are paying for. I mean of course we shouldn't tie up phone lines with every little thing that comes up but if you are genuinely concerned I totally think it's OK to call. I am sure they are used to FTM asking a lot of questions. FX it is nothing alarming!

@LoneStar21416 I've been having this, too. I really think it is some type of growing pain. I had it a bunch this past weekend, as I was at a music festival, so I was getting up and down off the ground all weekend. It's also worse for me the longer I go without having a good BM. I don't know if it's "normal" but I'm trying to not be overly concerned about it. I've been feeling baby move about once a day (or at least I think I have), and checked the heartbeat on the Doppler Sunday night. Let us know what the OB says, I'm curious! Best of luck!

  • Thanks, ladies.  That's my gut reaction too, @cjs260.  It does make me feel better to know that you're experiencing this too.  I feel like in the first trimester a lot of questions and complaints are the same...morning sickness, spotting, etc.  This second trimester stuff is very uncharted territory for me and I guess I've never really heard that many people talk about this (although I know RLP is definitely a thing!).  I'm definitely going to ask the doctor tomorrow about the GI stuff again too.  I can eat something so small and then for hours later be belching like a frat boy.  It's truly unbelievable!
  • @cjs260 sidebar, but I have to say that you're such a trooper for doing a music festival. I completely bowed out of one this weekend because I am such a mess in the heat these days. Hats off to you for living your life, fetus or no fetus :)
  • @LoneStar21416 I've been having this, too (I think, based on how you're describing it). I've been chalking it up to "stuff is squished as all hell in there" but I was definitely planning on asking about it in my check-up next week. I think it's good that you're going back in; peace of mind is essential.

@poetryandoceans Haha, thanks! It was a hell of a time, pregnant, sober, and in a walking boot! But we totally plan to be the people with a baby wearing headphones there next year.

  • @cjs260 those Baby Banz things are arguably the baby purchase my husband is most excited about. Everything else, he could not care less about, but those ear mufflers are VERY IMPORTANT BABY GEAR.
  • cjs260cjs260 member
@poetryandoceans They will be necessities in our family. 90% of our outings have something to do with music, and we've vowed to not be those people who lose themselves completely just because they have children. We have friends who have taken their daughter around the world with them, starting when she was 6 months old, who we admire very much.

  • @cjs260 I completely agree. My husband plays in a band, so the ear protection + "I'm with the band" onesies have been essential baby purchases. I've been leaning on him to pursue fewer bar gigs and more festival shows, but we're hoping to still stay true to ourselves :)
  • cjs260cjs260 member
@poetryandoceans H played the festival, so definitely my reason for being there, at least one day! And yes to our guys playing more festivals! I don't know how keen people will be with me bringing a baby into a bar. ;) AND another good thing is that Jan-Mar is always slow with gigs so H will be home, mostly!

Officially starting my 2nd tri today!!!!! My husband's grandma was given 1 month to live so we are on our way to visit her. That means a road trip with a total of 20+ hours of driving this weekend :( I just hope my bladder doesn't make us stop 1 million times and we make it in time to see her. It's just sad that this is the first great-grand kid. Had we not had our MC we would be bringing a baby to visit.

We will also be celebrating our 7 year wedding anniversary.

lastly, my next appointment is the 29th. Stomache exam and blood tests for spinabifeda. Also, I couldn't wait until sept to find out gender so DH and I are visiting a boutique to find out gender early. I know that's controversial but! I'm only going once for no more than 30 mins, so I'm comfortable with that.

    edit: spelling
  • @ceillyang Yay! Welcome to second tri!
    And congratulations on 7 years!

Im so sorry to hear about your DH's grandma. :(

  • @ceillyang I'm sorry to hear about your husbands grandma. Both my husband and I each lost a grandparent while I was pregnant with my first. It is hard knowing that your kids won't know that person but they live on in your stories. I hope you guys have a great visit with her this weekend.

@ceillyang I'm sorry about your H's grandmother. We had to do similar travel plans for my H's grandmother when we were about 7 weeks along. It wasn't easy. I hope you make it in time to see her. Y'all are in my thoughts.

@susykat77 Such a small world! H's paternal family is all from Columbus!

  • Hey ladies. Wanted to report back on my issue. Doctor did a cervix check w transvaginal ultrasound to make sure it was closed and long. That all looked good. She did a culture on some yellow discharge I had. Apparently yellow discharge plus pressure can indicate BV. She looked at that under the scope and that was all normal...no yeast, no BV. So I just have awesome yellow discharge. Sexy. The final check was the dreaded urine sample which has been annoying me this entire pregnancy. I know I have complained about that a lot here! The lab will grow that out for 24-48 hours and hopefully that will come back negative. It sounds like the low abdomen pressure, and all those symptoms I mentioned last night are natural changes taking place that are probably being exacerbated by my gas issues. She said this can be considered my baseline for now (assuming urine is normal) and just to watch it if anything changes from this point on - bleeding, bad cramping, intense pressure, etc. Thanks for your support yesterday!! It was very much appreciated!!!
  • Just wanted to check in, my appointment with the OB went just fine. They were able to find the HB on the Doppler (after a minute of looking and telling me not to worry because at 12 weeks it's still early and they might not be able to find the baby). OH I would have freaked out if they hadn't found the heartbeat - BUT they did, and so all was good. Next appointments at 8/20 for ultrasound and 8/25 for my next monthly appointment.
  • So, not going to lie. I'm nervous about my genetic screen.  Like after two losses,  and this one going well,  that's the shoe I'm waiting to drop. We have no history, but I feel like I'm holding my breath again.  Ugh.

  • @johnnydro Sometimes nice simple appointments are a good thing.  :)
  • @AlabamaRedhead like PP have said, I can definitely sympathize with you. It's so hard to not draw from our past, horrible experiences and feel like this won't end the same way. What type of screening did you get done?
  • @poetryandoceans that's exactly what I've thought!

It was the blood test,  not sure which one.  I had the draw Wednesday,  so he said to expect 2 weeks for the results.

Good news is my doppler comes today,  that should be fun!

@AlabamaRedhead Yay for the Doppler! And also, I understand how waiting for the other shoe to drop feels. When I think about those things, I try think that the odds are very much in our favor at this point. Of course, that's often no comfort for someone who's gone though a loss, but it helps me. FX for the best results possible!
