Worthless at Work

I just crossed the 10w threshold and for the last few days I have been COMPLETELY worthless at work. I don't have a physically taxing job. I sit at a desk and mostly read/send emails and work in powerpoint and excel all day. But I can't even manage that at the moment. I don't have a long enough attention span to read let alone comprehend emails. And forget being creative and productive. All I can think about is sleep. The moment I get home from work I go to sleep and don't wake up until the next morning (except for peeing multiple times a night) and it's still not enough.

Anyone have an tricks or tips that they have found that works. I'm desperate. I need to get some sh*t done, but I just can't.

  • You describe me to a T. The only days I do something productive is the days I get coffee...and I'm trying to avoid slipping into an everyday habit. I have started taking a 20 minute nap over lunch and I've found that helps.
  • I just want to sleep all day too. And I would totally drink coffee but my morning sickness would immediately reject it :(

  • Lowered expectations. They're good to have when you're having children in general.

You'll most likely feel better in a couple weeks for 2nd tri. I'm fortunate that I can delegate stuff to other people so I've been doing a lot of that.

    @BumpasaurusRex Hysterical!!!!

I haven't had any caffeine thus far, but I think that may have to change. Maybe I will give it a go, but worried like
@Starfish113 about it affecting my stomach.

I'm getting desperate as I know I have to be productive this afternoon and tomorrow.

  • Honestly, it's just one of those 'suck it up' type things.

I also have a desk job.  Same things every day and it's boring so I feel the exhaustion daily.  But I really can't afford to lose this job so when sh*t really needs to get done, I do it.

There's really no magic tricks or tips that are going to make it easier.  Except maybe the infamous 2nd tri energy that's supposed to hit in a few weeks.

  • Agreed about having a desk job. I find myself lacking motivation more and more each day. I'm also getting easily annoyed by coworkers more often. Trying not to visibly show that though...
  • Agreed.  Sometimes I'm exhausted and take a nap at lunch, but mostly I just get distracted really  easily and have trouble focusing for very long at a time unless it's on baby something.

  • I second the desk job thing. It takes everything in me not to just fall asleep on my desk. I have started sneaking into the copy room around 3:00 and propping a chair up in a corner to take a short nap. Nobody is in the office but me from about 3 to 4, so as long as I'm not sleeping up front where a customer could walk in and see me, I think it's fine.

  • Ugh, this is me, too. I can't slack off because I'm the only one who can run my business-- I  have zero backup and lots of quick-to-get-pissy customers. But I cannot focus, and I'm constantly exhausted and nauseous. I still drink my daily cup of coffee because I'm a bad person, but it hardly touches the exhaustion most days. I wish I felt this bad for my first pregnancy instead, when I was practically unemployed and childless... I don't have time for this with tons of work and a two-year-old! Gotta suck it up, though.
  • Sigh. I'll get back into sucking it up tomorrow. This morning I fainted in the kitchen just walking through the house getting ready for work. Kinda killed my get-up-and-go vibe for the day.  :/
  • @krob I like your style.

FWIW, staying hydrated and snacking regularly has been helpful for me in general.  I'm not working right now since I'm on summer break, but I always have more energy when I'm well-fueled.

Yeah i noticed today that I haven't been drinking enough water in the past few days, so definitely gotta change that.

And the ice cream cone I just had definitely made me feel somewhat better

Ice cream is always the answer.

  • My boss told me to leave at 2:30 today and I've still had trouble focusing.  I'm in the middle of one of the busy stretches at work too, so I'll be working the weekend and probably some late nights next week.
