WTF Wednesday

Re: WTF Wednesday

  • I have another WTF today. The neighbors are letting their small children (5ish and 7) ride their bikes down an unlit street in the middle of a not-so-safe part of the city at 10PM with no helmets. I get that I'm a bit more paranoid than most around here and the street isn't all THAT busy, but OMG. Lights. Helmets. Better timing. Staying on the sidewalk. All of these things would make it so much safer. Drives me bonkers!

  • I know it's Thursday morning, but I'm still fuming and need to vent before I punch another pregnant woman in her face.

I found out last night that my in laws had someone knocking on their door after 10 pm the other night and their neighbor who they've done countless things for saw one of the people with a gun. Where we live, it is a. Normal for someone to knock on your door after dark and b. Not normal to see someone walking around with a gun. These neighbors did not call the police or call my in laws to tell them because they didn't want to get INVOLVED.

my FIL has stage 4 cancer and my MIL is a severe diabetic, my FIL is also a retired corrections officer who has made his fair share of criminal enemies.

It makes me angry that their neighbors didn't call the police with what they saw because they didn't want to get involved. We trusted these people to keep an eye on my in laws because they are older. Our kids play together and go to daycare together.

I don't know if it's my hormones making this worse, but I am so angry right now. I have no idea how to address it or if I even address it.

What if they opened that door? Would we even have them with us? They know my FIL is a retired corrections officer/sherif deputy. Things haven't been exactly safe for the men in blue lately.

  • @bdesterhouse not sure if you were looking for any suggestions or ideas but I have a few. But first I think anyone would be upset and that hormones and pregnancy most likely have nothing to do with you feeling angry.

First I think it's a good idea to let the cops know anyway, they will most likely take a few nights to patrol the neighborhood. That might be enough to deter  (?) any potential break ins or robberies.

Next, I may be a bit immature or juvenile in "getting back" at people, but I'd be thinking about t.p.ing those neighbors while visiting your in laws one night, then tell them you saw some kids out loitering around a bit. Follow it up with you didn't say anything because you didn't want to get involved, but at least you didn't see a gun... I would think that would get the point across and you can work out some aggression lol ... I'd probably t.p. before having the police patrol though lol.

I always try to put myself in the other people's shoes. If I saw weird activity I'm going to call the police. There's no harm in calling that in. I don't understand why those neighbors ignored it instead of doing anything at all. Super frustrating.

  • I'm friends with her on Facebook and really thought about being immature and having a passive aggressive status so she'd know we think she's stupid. What's even better is my in laws other neighbors are out of town and those are the people watching their house! It could have been broken into that night. Thankfully it wasn't.

  • @bdesterhouse maybe it's my hormones too but I'm like really angry at those neighbors. I can't imagine not calling the cops because I didn't want to get involved if it looked like someone was going to rob or harm a neighbor. That's such scummy behavior. I'm really glad your parents are OK.

I second @kswiger06 that I think you should call the cops and let them know so that they can have a patrol swing by the neighborhood a couple of times. IDK if I'd TP their house but the next time I saw them I'd probably say something like "well I hope if someone with a gun comes up to your house you have better neighbors who aren't too busy to call the police or at least give you a heads up."

  • @bdesterhouse  That is really scary and I'm glad they didn't open the door.

I would absolutely address it with your neighbors.  How would they feel if you had witnessed a stranger with a gun walking up to their house and knocking on the door and you did nothing?  In order to keep a neighborhood safe, you have to look out for one another.

The whole "if you see something, say something" sentiment runs deep with me.

  • My landlord left her couch in the house when we first moved in, then we got our own and asked her to come get it. 3 months later and it's still there. I asked her Monday what they were planning to do with it, she said sell it for $100...so I offered to just sell it for her and give her the cash. She then suggested I ask for $150 so we have some wiggle room. Fine. I sold it last night for the full $150 and assumed she'd give me AT LEAST $25 for doing the leg work and since she only wanted $100.

NOPE! She took the whole $150. This woman...who married a millionaire and is swimming in money. WTF?!

@scifichick09 that sucks. I know someone who would have lied to her and said it sold for $100 and pocketed the rest.
And if she found out she would have given the boot.
I would be PISSED if someone lied and pocketed my money!
