Overdue club

Re: Overdue club

  • @HoneyBear40 I'm working... from home though now. I'd rather spend my leave with new baby instead of waiting for new baby, so I don't think working til the end is weird.

Just got back from the doc... induction planned for Thursday or Friday (depending on space). Finally.

  • Today is my due date. I've had no contractions or any sign of going into labor soon, so unfortunately I guess I can go ahead and join this club  :( my doctor is out of town this week which is the ONLY good reason I can think of for him to not show up on time. I commend any of y'all still working, being a teacher I've been off since June, and I can't imagine still being at work. I am absolutely exhausted and so done with being pregnant.
  • I'm 40+3....had appointment today. Is it normal for the doctor to not want to induce at this point? I mentioned it and she didn't seem like it was a matter what so ever. I feel like everyone else I talk to easily get induced and when I mentioned it she made it seem like there's no necessary reason. I know there really isn't, but I am getting extremely impatient and can't fathom another week. Hopefully this baby comes on his own soon.
  • @lolomommy1 There was absolutely no talk of induction with my first until 41 weeks.... I actually went into labor the day before my induction was scheduled, which would have been 41+1.  However since I am a STM they are more open to induction after 40w if everything is fine and your cervix is favorable (some dilation).  I made it very clear I wasn't going to 41w again.
  • @lolomommy1 my doctor didn't even discuss induction until yesterday at my 41w appt. she gave me the option of induction today (if I was ready to be done being pregnant) or Friday if I wanted to see what happens. I am happy to wait until Friday but grateful to have been given the choice. Depending on your circumstances, induction might not have a great outcome at this point so she/he might want to wait and see if things progress on their own.

  • @lolomommy1 I don't know where she gets her info, but a nurse teaching my birth class told us that average for FTMs is birth at 41+1!
  • @ktomorrow If I remember correctly, I believe that came from a very small study and isn't considered to be very accurate. I did go really late with DD (and for some reason expected to), so it certainly happens, but that would likely mean the majority of FTMs end up being induced in the US.

  • Thanks everyone.  I went to 41+6 with my daughter and labor started naturally, but it was a lot easier during that time as I had family to help with my son during the last weeks.  This time family is out of state and my unhelpful mother in law is staying with us until he is born and I have a 4 year old and 6 year old to try and entertain during the summer days...feeling pretty miserable and being induced sounds pretty good right about now lol  I know waiting is probably the best bet especially for the kind of labor I am aiming for, but being over-due really messes with you mentally.

At least we are all here together for support.  :)  Gotta keep reminding myself that it wont last forever, he will be here at some point in the next 1.5 weeks.  Trying to think of the positives and stop obsessing over the little things.

  • Good morning ladies that are still cooking their LO! Sending you all creepy internet hugs today cause you probably need them as much as I do.
  • At the threat of being induced on Friday, I have now tried every reasonable old wives' tale out there. I was really really hoping things would pick up. 41+1 today.

MIL told us to have chinese food and go for a bumpy ride on a full moon - did that yesterday!
I also ate a half a pineapple, started drinking red raspberry leaf tea, am using acupressure on my lower legs and feet, have been eating dates (for weeks), am going for "long" walks (about as long as I can tolerate), doing squats, going up and down stairs and having sex.

I feel so helpless...I don't know what else to do. Realistically, I know that there's nothing I can do if baby isn't ready to come out, but I feel so hopeless that I can have the birth I wanted at this point. As of Monday, I was not dilated, not effaced and baby was still "very high up" in my pelvis and not engaged at all. I can't have my membranes stripped and from what I understand, I'm a pretty bad candidate for induction anyways...things are like to end in a C-section. Yesterday I felt like I was in a better place - that I had a plan and I could make this happen, but the more days go by, the less and less likely it is.

  • Don't give up hope! When I was induced, I was not effaced or dilated and my cervix was high and posterior.  With induction, I was able to deliver vaginally.  It just took awhile....,36 hours. Maybe make sure your doc knows you heavily favor a vaginal delivery.  Also my experience was even though my birth didn't go as I had ideally planned, it didn't even matter once Elijah was born.  Good luck to you @sboston06
  • @sboston06 so glad to get this update after earlier this week!! Woo!
  • @sboston06 That's great! I might have missed it but why can't you have your membranes stripped?

  • @mandyjulie I'm not dilated at all so they can't get in there to strip them. I'm going in on Friday for a check and a NST so maybe I'll be dilated then!!

  • Great update, @sboston06! Fx your body gets things started for you so you either go into labor on your own, or the induction goes smoothly. Either way, lots of positive thoughts your way!
  • Another day, no baby yet! How's everyone holding up?
We are supposed to have a high of 96 today with heat index up to 115! Here are those hot summer days I was worried about being pregnant during...
  • Not overdue but 5 days left and eviction is in 7. Maybe better in the pgal thread but I am soooo over worrying every day that something is wrong with her...if she doesn't move for 30 min I start freaking and she is a very active baby overall..I just have no patience or good faith because of all the fear that something will still go wrong. Emotionally draining!

A week sounds like a lifetime away right now.
  • @mrsmommya I found the end as stressful as the beginning from a Pgal perspective. Lots of hugs! You are almost there
  • @sboston06 I hope things start progressing for you and that you get the birth you want! I was barely dilated or effaced and my cervix was way up high when I was induced, and like PP said, it just took a long time. I think mine ended up taking 34 hours, but I was able to deliver vaginally. I was terrified of it ending in a c-section, but even if it had, it would have all been so worth it. You'll do great!!! Hang in there!!

@mrsmommya I'm with @Weville, PGAL brain was the worst in the beginning and at the end. Thinking of you!!

  • Thanks girls!  Seeing all these beautiful babies does help.  I am also in the same boat of being scared my induction will end with a c-section...it is a week away so hoping she comes on her own...clocks ticking!!
  • @mrsmommya Have you already had a vaginal delivery? I can't remember for sure, but think you might already have a child. If so, even if you weren't induced last time, I think a successful vaginally delivery greatly improves your chances with an induction. Definitely true for repeat inductions and noninduced repeat vaginal deliverys. Good luck!

  • @whataboutscience Yes I have. My daughter was born vaginally. I went into labor naturally at 41w and did have a bit of pitocin around 7-8cm to push it along. My doc keeps saying the same thing about being a STM and how the statistics are more favorable etc etc. I guess I just need to realize I don't have control!
  • STM 40w2d and last night I was having some good contractions. DH and I went for a walk and didn't even make it half a mile from home without me having them back to back and pretty intense. Finally got home and took a bath to see if they would stay and updated my midwife.  Had good consistent (under 5 min apart and lasting 1+ minutes) that continued to get more intense. Midwife came and checked at 11:00 pm me and zero progress with dilation. Contractions kept up until about 3:30 am and then subsided enough to sleep. Ugh I was so hoping that was it!!! Now just feel like menstrual cramps with a contraction here and there.  :'( makes me want to take a ten mile walk and not stop til this kid comes out.
  • I'm officially in the overdue club 40+1 today. Saw the doc yesterday and nothing. I'm ok with that, but I'm definitely feeling more and more uncomfortable and pain every day. Fx he or she decides to come out before they induce me next week.
  • @sboston06 You are SO SO close to meeting your LO! I'm glad everything is still checking out for you & there is a game plan!

I am 40+4 today. Had an appointment and was told I am easily 3 1/2 cm, 4cm if Dr would have stretched it a little. She did a membrane sweep as long as I promised not to say anything to one of the other Drs, not sure if it's because the other Dr is on call this weekend or if she doesn't like sweeps done? Either way that's done and we are set up with an appointment at 7am on Monday if baby does not make their way out on their own this weekend. I am the most relaxed I have been in almost 3 weeks now that I know we have a plan!

I am 40+6 today.  I was 40+6 when I went into labor naturally with my daughter almost 5 years ago.  I had an ultrasound today and he scored 8/8.  They asked me if I wanted to be induced since at this point it is considered medically necessary since they dont want to go past 42 weeks.  She checked my cervix, gave me my third membrane sweep and said I was a tight 3 centimeters and 70% effaced.  She also reassured me that most of the time a mom has a better chance that the body takes to being induced if she had previously delivered vaginally, so hopefully that works in my favor.  Im really hoping my body just goes naturally before the weekend is over because they scheduled me for Monday morning to be induced.  Like someone else said though, I feel at peace right now and less anxious with a plan.  I wont actually be pregnant forever :P

I'm 40 weeks tomorrow and I think I'll be joining this club! Had some very promising aches and pains for about 3 days but no consistent contractions. I rang L&D to ask should I come up, they said I could if I wanted but to try and wait until I get proper contractions or can't manage my back ache. So far it's tapered off (AGAIN) and still no consistent contractions. I'm getting very anxious and my emotions are all over the place right now. I seem to be crying at the drop of a hat. I'd rather not be induced but I'll ask about it at 40+3 when I'm at my next appointment! I really thought I'd of had the baby by now :(

@lf93 I was super emotional at being overdue too (and still am). You're not alone! I keep telling myself the baby will come when it's meant to.

Edited bc the bump keeps eating my post.

  • @LF93 I hear ya!! I have had bouts of HOURS of consistent contractions lasting well over a minute and less than 5 minutes apart. But then after 6-8 hours of them they disappear. It's so frustrating!
  • Good luck ladies. My whole labor was up and down, so hopeful your contractions are still effective too. Even 7-8 cm dilated and water broken, if I sat down, my contractions could stop for 10 minutes. It's possible you're getting there, and if the pain gets hard to manage, it's worth getting checked.

  • I was admitted last night at 6pm and have been laboring on my own all night. Childbirth is not for the faint of heart....this is miserable. I'm hoping at my next check I'm further along, currently 3cm 50% but that was 4hr ago.
