Baby Halloween Costumes

Okay okay okay. I know this is SUPER early... but I love Autumn and October is one of my favorite months and I really really enjoy Halloween and this year will be the first year that I get to snug my baby during the chill and enjoy the festivities with him. So I'm already craving the Autumn.  Plus, I figure we'll all be so flipping busy caring for a newborn that we might not be poking around the group at Halloween time so I thought I'd go ahead and ask.

Do any of you have plans to dress up your wee one for Halloween this year? If so, what are your ideas, or have you already chosen something?

In honor of that crazy dream I had last year where Hobbes instructed me to name my first son Calvin... DS will be going as... CALVIN from C&H. Hur hur.

It's a super simple costume with the red stripe shirt and little blue jeans. Very very likely DS is NOT going to have blonde hair so I don't know how I'm going to do that. I'll have to get crafty. But I'm so excited about it already and I think DH is tired of hearing about it. So... I've turned to you ladies instead. Lucky ducks! :wink

Tell me your ideas for babe costumes!

Re: Baby Halloween Costumes

  • I've always wanted baby to be a dinosaur for Halloween! I haven't looked into options but I'm hopeful I'll find something adorable. I'm hoping to make my labradoodle a dinosaur too :)
  • Loading the player...
  • I love fall and Halloween, too! My first was born 9/14, and I couldn't find any costumes small enough for her (that I wouldn't have to make myself or buy on Etsy). So I put her in a "My First Halloween" onsie and tutu. Honestly, we were the only ones that saw her that day. She was obviously too little to take out for trick or treating, and she slept through the trick or treaters that came to our door.

I haven't decided what we will do this year. I think DD1 is still too little for trick or treating in our neighborhood (she'll be 2), but we will do the trick or treating at the zoo and ILs' campground. I'd love to try themed costumes, but I'll probably be lazy and just do Halloween themed onsies again. (Which I think are still cute!)

  • @camichael84 Yeah, it came to my mind as I was posting that we probably wouldn't be going out anywhere with a newborn on such a busy night but pictures would be great and the memories totally worth it!  "And this was you on your first halloween, omg!" <--- That will be fun.

  • I got a tiger stripe onesie as a hand me down form my SIL. It's for 3 months so hopefully it will somewhat fit him by Halloween. I was a leopard last year and bought an adult leopard onesie from Target, so we will somewhat match in our wild cat onesies.
  • Halloween is my favorite holiday so I'm definitely dressing up my LO! Probably will be buying several Halloween themed outfits to wear in October because let's be real, I cannot resist the adorable onesies and booties etc.

I haven't decided on a costume yet...but I've definitely been looking online at options. And we obviously won't be going anywhere, but it's still a necessity to dress her up!
  • Man, I want to post a pic of DD in her duck costume but freaking stranger danger for the lurkers. I was even gojng to put a heart over her face so you couldn't tell and then I thought about image search and that pic on my Facebook. Seriously though, so cute. You could see her little fat thighs through her pants.
  • @PSUBecky23 What a neat idea! I didn't even think about costumes that incorporate baby carriers.

@MrsVoorhees It sucks that there are such crappy people out there that we can't enjoy sharing cute halloween photos of our kids for safety reasons. :disappointed:  But that costume sounds super precious! I'm sure she was adorable!

  • DS1 was Eeyore for his first Halloween (he was 9 months old) and DS2 was a football (he was only 2 weeks old) DH found this adorable bunting outfit on Amazon and just had to have it for him.  I dressed up in my football jersey and carted him around.  Now that we live in Alaska there is snow on the ground and it's pretty cold for trick or treating so I don't see the baby going out with the boys this year.  I know we will probably go to an indoor treat or treat and then I'm sure one of our friends will have a Halloween party.  I may just put her in a cute onesie and a tutu.

  • @jhems776 At first I thought it was someone dressed up as intestinal flora and I couldn't figure out what the baby was supposed to be. Now I see the fish. That's actually a cute idea... on paper. LOL!

  • Last year we dressed up Emmett as Corduroy from the children's books. He had brown bear coveralls already for winter, so he wore that (luckily halloween is cold in Maine) and I made him green overalls that were missing a button, like in the original book.  We took him trick or treating to the local stores with my niece and nephew (and rest of the family) and people LOVED it.  Trying to think of coordinating costumes this year and would like to make them again, book/character themed would be the best but haven't stumbled on the perfect idea yet.

Fall is my favorite season! We're not huge into Halloween but of course we would never pass up the opportunity to dress Squish up.

We received tons of hand-me-down clothes from my cousin, which included an ADORABLE ladybug costume that's nice and warm. I can't wait to see her in it!
  • @AnnaS930 - Oh the kids love Corduroy! Which means I've come to love him too. How cute!!

Robert & Elleanore were a puppy and an elephant for their first Halloween. I love those costumes and probably still have them. I've always wanted to dress them as Raggedy Ann & Andy though. I'm thinking that they might be a little old for that now (I mean, Robert has progressed to wanting to go as a zombie and Elle as a princess or ballerina) so I might do that for the babies. Although I'd love to do a costume that incorporates all four kids and maybe DH and I.

  • @MrsVoorhees Curious George sounds adorable! McKenna is obsessed with Sofia the First. That's going to be the theme of her birthday party. It would probably be overkill to be her Halloween costume, too? I really wanted her to go as a lady bug or bee last year, but she was a cat. So we might be doing lady bug or bee this year. It might not be too hard to make DD2 a flower costume...

  • @MrsVoorhees - I was hoping Emmett would take more to Curious George. I had a dream of him being the man in the yellow hat and boy #2 being a little George monkey.  Hmmm, still thinking still thinking...

  • DS1 was almost a year old for his first Halloween and I was SO sad bc I wanted to dress him in a tiny baby costume! He ended up being a pirate, which was cute, and he still dresses up in the hat and cape all the time. I'm thrilled that DS2 will get the tiny baby costume though! Right now, the plan is to dress him up as a little joey and I will dress as a mommy kangaroo, and I want to try to use the carrier to make it look like he's riding in my pouch, haha... I've never been great at making costumes though, so hopefully it will turn out cute.
  • OMG I just looked up some costumes online and I am just melting over here. I seriously cannot wait to dress him up.

  • @UnwritteN12 Love the Raggedy Ann & Andy idea for your twins!

  • Not sure if we'll end up doing this, but I love these baby lederhosen. :)

  • I think we will also do a carrier costume. We'll probably host a small get-together with family so I'll be up doing things and handing out candy while the guests' kids go out trick or treating. I saw a cute one where the baby is a spider in the carrier and the parent is the web, might do that.

@MrsVoorhees what a cute idea to do aerobics instructor! I got some baby leg warmers from my SIL... hmmmm!

  • DH & I ran across a Woody from Toy Story onesie at Target many many months ago and were completely sold since this was one of DH's favorites as a kid. We will probably put jean pants on him and maybe a brown beanie hat since he will be too small for a cowboy hat.
  • @runningisrad You win the internet, forever. Best costume ever. I LOVE that movie

  • @ansley0319 makes a point I wanted to. Target etc has tons of cute character onesies/pajamas that make a great costume in a pinch and for a reasonable price  (and super reusable)

  • I really want to dress our boys up for their first Hallowern since it's my absolute favorite holiday, but DH and my mom are acting like I've lost my mind thinking about dressing up tiny babies.

I'd really love to, but I just don't know how feasible it's going to be or what I'd dress them up as since they're going to be so small and I hate the costumes that are just a hat and diaper cover or onesie.
