Have you bought anything for baby yet?

Now that I've seen the little bean and know things are progressing well I'm tempted to start!

Re: Have you bought anything for baby yet?

  • I saw a super cute onesie two days ago and I almost did it (it was my favorite brand and they don't usually make baby stuff) but I held off so far...

  • My husband and I have put off buying anything just yet, however I cannot say the same for my mom and my MIL. Everyday they come over with some new toy or clothes. Ive had to tell them to calm down, we've still got 7 months haha, but I am glad they are excited.

On our honeymoon(October 2015) my husband and I did buy a onesie from Disneyworld because it was super cute and we live in Arizona so we knew we wouldn't be going back for awhile. But ever since finding out we are expecting we haven't bought anything.

Yeah...I've totally already started. I got a bunch of onesies, 0-6 months, and 6-9months gender neutral baby clothes from a yard sale for $0.50 each! And they are in really good condition. I also got a gently used bassinet at a yard sale for $10 and a stroller for $20. And I got a set of Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature  0+ months bottles on sale like 40% off.

    I know, I'm crazy...but I can't pass up a good deal!

Edit: I don't know why this posted twice

  • I've knit a few things but my crafting mojo has been absent since my MC in December. I wanted to buy a onsie that said "made in Canada" a few weeks ago but DH wants to hold off a bit more. I'm ok with waiting longer - but clearly he's worried about another MC (natural), as am I but when I say I'm worried he gets upset that I'm worried.

  • I'm waiting to see how our 8w follow up U/S goes.
    Then im going to town!
  • Bought a really nice baby swing at a yard sale for $25. We sold ours since we weren't expecting to have another one so soon. I couldn't pass it up !
  • Keeping my eye out for gn clothes at a deal but we won't need anything else.

I did buy 2 soft books and 2 blankets from a co-op. Great price but little ones big sister already stole 1 book!
  • This is #4 and we have both girls and boys already so we are fairly stocked up on clothes and such.  The only thing we need is a new infant car seat because ours expired.  Otherwise the only thing I have bought is newborn cloth diapers because I haven't done newborn cloth before.  Stocked up on covers when there was a going out of business sale, AIOs on prime day and bought some fitteds off the swaps.

  • I am stressed out because I feel like I won't have enough time to prepare for twins, plus the expense. I've started on diapers, bottles -- I grab something whenever I'm at the store, hoping to lessen the initial blow

  • I've gone through most of DS' baby clothes to take stock of what we need.  I've sorted out all gender neutral stuff so if it's a girl, I'll have to do some shopping.  Since they are going to be born in different seasons, I'll have to get some warmer clothes.

We kept everything from DS so there's not much to buy.  I did start an Amazon wish list that has an Ergo, A&A blankets, and some Halo sleepsacks.

  • I always wait until the anatomy scan to shop. I think the only thing we *need* this time around is a new car seat. I gave mine to one of my employees.
  • I bought a baby gown, and a blooming bath. Random,  but the bath was on sale.  :)
Rainbow baby Dean is due 2/17/17!
  • Nope.  I am actually excited about finding out the sex so that I can get RID of half of my baby clothes, since we are done after this baby.  I'll eventually by a Rock n Play (never had one, always wondered) and maybe an Ergo 360.  Those look cool.  I'll also get one bottle of Dreft baby detergent and start washing whatever sex's clothes we will need.  I know Dreft is ridiculously expensive and unnecessary but the smell makes my ovaries twinge.  Oh, and maybe some new bottles since ours are kind of dingy now.

  • The movers came yesterday, so I bought a stroller with a rumble seat used off of craigslist last week, so that could be on its way to our new house in style. (We're flying and I already have an umbrella stroller for the airport).

Other than that...I bought a baby sleep sack waaaay back in December? I think. Officially for whoever of our friends would next be expecting, but really for when we got successful (we'd been trying for 8 months by then...who am I kidding. Of course it was for us).

I tried dressing DD in gender neutral stuff for most of her first year, so we're pretty set there. (Which of course in no way guarantees I won't go wild at the end of summer sales....ahem).

We will need to buy a new infant carseat, but that can definitely wait until next year.

I need to start on the cloth diapers soon. I destashed like two months ago! Oops...

  • Do you ladies have recommendations on where to find GN clothes? Everything seems to be pepto pink or blue.
Rainbow baby Dean is due 2/17/17!
  • @WinchesterGirl I've had a lot of luck at Carters with yellow and green stuff. I'm not a big fan of primary colors so  a lot of my sons clothes were from Carters.
  • @cantalopes24 thanks for the suggestion! Amazon has a very puny GN baby section. It is severely lacking pizzazz.
Rainbow baby Dean is due 2/17/17!
  • Have all the big stuff from DD and I made sure all her big stuff was gender neutral. Not buying anything until we know the sex.

I second that. Carters is where most of my gender neutral stuff is from. Lots of cream colored outfits with animals on them, like ducks or giraffes.

  • For some reason very girly clothes don't bother me as much but I just don't like newborn baby boy clothes with all the dark reds and blues. We did a lot of white, yellow, green, lambs, ducks, frogs for the first 6ish months with him. Most of his stuff was from Carters and Baby Gap.
  • I haven't bought anything yet, but next Friday when I see my OB and hear the HB on the Doppler I'm going to go to Walmart and start a gift card/money card/something like that that I can add money onto every paycheck specifically for baby stuff like diapers, wipes, etc. DH and I both plan to add money to it each paycheck or buy additional cards each paycheck to put away.

After that, I may allow myself to buy a thing...or two...
  • I haven't purchased anything, but I'm belong to an amazon review group, and have been opting in on baby things to review, so I get them for free. So far I have a diaper bag, about 10 of those cute bandana drool bibs, 4 or so muslin swaddle blankets, and a car seat cover. I won't shop until 12/13 weeks. I do have a basement full of boy clothes I can go through, too. I saved everything from DS1.
  • I'm in the "too afraid from a prior loss to buy anything" group...We saw the hb almost a week ago so I'm starting to open up to the idea of buying something, and have started an Amazon registry, but haven't pulled the trigger. I also have literally no where to put anything since there's currently a miter saw in the room that will become baby's (remodeling).

I'm waiting until the anatomy scan. If it's a girl we are set. If it's a boy I will need all new clothes because I have like 3 gender neutral outfits. At my shower I got so many girl clothes I didn't have to buy any outfits until she was like 18months.
I also need an ergo or some kind baby carrier so I'll just be on the lookout for sales!
  • @Gingersnap I'm playing your game! New baby, new digs! And if this happens to be a girl, I'm selling the GN Rock and play and swing and bassinet and buying everything pink and frilly and obnoxiously girl!!!! I haven't had a baby girl for 19 years and I will go ALL OUT, last baby or not!

Yes, it's ridiculous, but zero fucks given. She will also have matching shoes to every outfit and a matching coat for her "cold weather" months outfits. There will be gawdy bows and frilly butt things, pink blankies and bottles and my house will look disgustingly PINK. I AM "that girl".

With that being said, she will also wear denim and black and gold. She will most likely play in the dirt and with trucks and cars! Who am I kidding, she will probably strip to her diaper just like her big brother! Ahhhhh I can't wait for bean to grow!!!!!
  • Do you ladies have recommendations on where to find GN clothes? Everything seems to be pepto pink or blue.
I was on the Old Navy website earlier and they have a decent selection of gender neutral. I liked what I saw because they weren't just yellow and green, they have more natural colors like tan and off white.
  • I am stressed out because I feel like I won't have enough time to prepare for twins, plus the expense. I've started on diapers, bottles -- I grab something whenever I'm at the store, hoping to lessen the initial blow
Have you considered cloth? I did with my first and after going a bit crazy on prints (oops) we still saved a ton! You can get great diapers for only $5 each. You can and you will be prepared! You are a momma and confidence will come I promise:) cheering for you!
  • I bought a little clearance toy today and that was my first baby buy. I'm being tempted but going to try to hold out another month or two.
Rachel, mama to Ava (6), Olivia (4), Nora (2), and baby#4 on the way.

  • DH and I are waiting until the 2nd trimester to buy anything. His sister did send us a BeatBo (we love playing with it with our nephew her son) and his mom got us a cute little bib! We're starting the home buying process and hopefully moving before baby is here so we don't want anything big we'd have to add to moving.

  • Another vote for no purchases until after the anatomy scan! We still have everything from DD, so if this LO is also a girl all we'll really NEED to buy would be winter newborn/0-3 months clothes. If it's a boy, we have nothing! So if it has boy parts, as soon as we know, I'll be going crazy with the shopping!
  • I've bought a few $1 onesies at a resale shop that were in great condition. They are dh's favorite nfl team so he didn't mind :)
  • @WinchesterGirl I keep seeing Facebook ads for a website called primary.com with really cute neutrals. I'll probably buy some stuff from there to fill in gaps after my shower.

We we haven't bought anything yet. I'm most eager to get going on the BIG stuff-furniture, bassinet (we're doing a baby box), stroller, and car seat. If all is good at my 12 week appointment, we'll probably start. Clothes I figure we'll see where we land after the shower. Diapers we're still on the fence about. It'll either be an earthy crunchy disposable brand or our area's reasonably priced cloth service. H put his foot down on washing cloth at home. I need to call the diaper service to ask some questions, but again, just feel like I need to wait until 12 weeks.
  • Nothing yet. After the anatomy scan I will know which of my boxes in the basement I need to go through and inventory.  I am notoriously bad at getting rid of things, and with a surprise 4th baby, it seems like it might be a good thing.   The only things I think I will need other than clothes I plan to see what I can borrow from friends or my sister in law.  I have to find things like my Becco that I loaned out.

  • I've been wanting to and looking but hesitant to actually buy something. If I see something cute and gender neutral I'll get it though.
  • We bought a used crate and barrel nursery set that was selling on Craigslist that was just too good of a deal to pass up. Almost to 12 weeks so should be realitivly safe now to buy.
