Insomnia

I've taken Unisom -- there are two types. The gel ones have the same ingredient as Benadryl and the tablets have a different ingredient. Just a tip for the tablets: try half of one first. I took a full one the first time I tried it and I was SUPER tired still for a lot of the morning after. Both types do help me, but don't expect to sleep through the night or anything. I still wake up several times, they just help me to fall back asleep quickly (after I pee, of course, haha).

  • Oh my word, the heartburn and inability to breathe is killing me!!! I'm so tired. I want to sleep but can't because it hurts so bad. Tums and milk are not doing a thing. Hopefully this ice cream I'm about to devour puts out the flames!!

  • Man I thought the curse was broken after two nights in a row where I slept normalish hours - but here I am still awake and bumping at 4:30 in the morning!
All I know is DH is getting up and tackling his honey do list whether I sleep all day or not!

  • @Stephanie7693, I am 36w4d now. I just bit the bullet and invested in a nice memory foam topper yesterday. It definitely has taken away the pain that I am getting from the weight on my hips/butt. Still not sleeping for more than thirty minutes though. I am so large!! I have to hold my stomach in place as I turn at night. Lol and I've pulled a shoulder muscle from trying to lift myself up out of bed. I have had so much anxiety lately which hasn't helped. I have a job interview this week and am supposed to take my NP board exam this weekend. That probably has a lot to do with it as well.
  • @Abfisher.. Hopefully after your stressful week you are able to sleep again! I still can't fall asleep before 2am, but I am sleeping ok after that. I've been enjoying it the last couple days since I don't know when the insomnia will come back with a vengeance. .or baby will come.
  • @cal031686 I just read that bananas are supposed to be really good for helping with heartburn! I haven't tried it yet but I did just go and buy some today.

  • Lol...sorry @cal031686. Like I said, I haven't tried it yet, just read about it. I bought them with the intention of trying, but now I won't get my hopes up!
  • @jamiesc58 Fyi, the vinegar theory was also unsuccessful. I think I'm going yo break down and get some Zantac or ask for something at next appointment. This kid better come out with some gorgeous locks!! Lol

  • @cal031686 I never had heartburn with either of my girls and they both had lots of hair. I had major heartburn with ds #1 and now with this little boy also. Idk how much hair LO will have, but ds #1 barely had any lol.
  • I had heartburn towards the end with DD#1 and she had a full head of hair and her back was covered in hair too. I called her my little monkey baby.   During our growth scan with this little one the tech has pointed out that this LO has lots of hair too. I'm not sure about that old wives take but so far has rung true for us!

  • @cal031686 I actually just read an article (it's reliability is questionable ) a few days ago that the heartburn thing is often true. They think the hormones that cause heartburn may also be the same ones that stimulate hair growth!
  • My OB recommended Unisom to help me sleep. I told my dad about it (he is a physician) and he said, "that's terrible stuff, I wouldn't take it. People feel awful the next day." Well, being desperate for sleep, I decided to take half a pill a night (which is what my OB suggested) and the first few nights it was very helpful and I felt fine. But last night I had a busy evening and went to bed late. Still took the half pill of Unisom right before bed, and wow -- I feel like utter crap today. Just groggy, stiff and nauseous. I was late to work, and all I really want to do is go home. Luckily my boss and co-wokers are really understanding.

This could just be the normal energy fluctuations of pregnancy (I've had crappy days before), but I am wondering if it is also the Unisom. Anyone else have an unpleasant reaction to it? If I take it again I will only take it well in advance of bedtime and not too late like last night.
  • @Snaps816 unisom does nothing for me. Literally. It doesn't help me sleep, but I don't feel icky the next day if I do take it. I also don't have to get up early anymore, so maybe that helps me feel ok. But I think it's because it just doesn't work for me. Do you make sure to have at least 8 hours until you get up when you take it? That's how nyquil is for me, I will feel gross if if don't give it enough time to wear off
  • @Stephanie7693 Last night I took it about 7 hours before my morning alarm was set to go off. Still a good night's sleep, but yeah, I guess not long enough for it to wear off. I will be more careful in the future, because it has been helping with my sleep, so I don't want to give it up!
