Re: Ask a STM+ Week of 7.11

  • Here's my question on the day.... the last few days if I get up fast or move weird in bed, I get serious stomach cramps, almost like a charlie horse and then i totally freak out and don't want to move. It goes away in a few seconds usually but it still scares me. Has this happened to anyone else? I'm just always terrified something is going to go wrong!

  • @BriannaE129129 Yes, this happens to me every time I stand up too fast from a sitting or laying position. I just make sure to move slowly and it usually isn't that bad. Happened last time around, too.

  • I have a question for third+ time moms. I have been explaining to my 2 1/2 yr old about the baby in an attempt to prepare her in advance. At first she seemed excited but lately....not so much. Like yesterday, out of nowhere she says, I want to baby to stay in your tummy, mommy. She's been super clingy and has started regressing on potty training claiming that she wants to be a baby and wear pull ups again. I knew this would probably happen but I figured it would happen AFTER the baby got here! Anyone else dealt with something like this before? How did it turn out?

  • @LastMango this is #5 and we have had a range of different responses with the kids. Our first 2 were 2yrs 9months apart and our oldest did fine with the transition into big brother. He wasn't potty trained yet, that came after his 3rd birthday.

When we had our 3rd boy our 2nd was 3.5yrs old, a bit older than our oldest had been, he had been potty trained for about 6months so we didn't have any regressing and they both again did good with a new sibling.

Then number 4 came along lol. Our 3rd boy was barely 2 when he was born and was extremely jealous. I remember him getting very clingy before baby and once baby got here he was very mad at me and refused to talk to me lol. He got over it after a couple days and was fine, but definitely regressed when it came to his pacifier. Took a really long time to get rid of the pacifier and to get him potty trained, he was almost 4 before finally potty trained.

Hopefully it is just a phase for her and she will get more excited about the baby.

  • @BriannaE129129 @LastMango I experienced the same pain last time around and this time also especially when changing positions- I always attributed it to round ligament pain?

  • I am soooo uncomfortable- is it normal for this to start so early?? (15w with 2 equates to like, 21+w with 1) I'm not in serious PAIN per sé but ugghhhh eating hurts, stretching hurts, moving hurts (is uncomfortable/ really mild pain I should say) it's not every day either, yesterday was fine but today is owwww. Both RLP and just like... Organ discomfort? I don't know how else to explain. Not cramps, everything inside just feels yuck.

@tinabelcher this is how I feel and I can't even blame it on twins. I don't remember it being like this so early with my other two.  I will seriously eat a small meal and then feel like I can't have room for my lungs to expand.  And I've started supporting my fairly small belly when getting up in the morning. Third tri is going to be so....fun.

  • @TinaBelcher I think it's totally normal at this stage, especially for you. Not only is the normal growing/stretching taking place but since you're carrying twins, it's happening at a very fast pace. I remember being quite uncomfortable at 21ish weeks last time around but your body just did that same amount of growth in much less time.

I do not envy you multiple mamas. It can't be easy!

@TinaBelcher Yes, I agree, I think it's totally normal for you to feel like that already. You're carrying TWO babies after all! @BriannaE129129 I, too, have experienced the sort of pain you described. It's happened a couple times. It's nothing to be worried about, it's just your body growing and stretching to accommodate the baby. I had the same thing when I was pregnant with my daughter.

  • Thanks guys, my boss caught me wincing/ rubbing my belly a couple times and was like "WHATS WRONG?SIT DOWN OMG ARE YOU OK" and I'm like umm I think so? This doesn't feel like an energency, just kinda sucks  :'(
  • I guess this is more of just a fun, curiosity type of question, but have any of you noticed any similarities between how your babies have acted during ultrasounds or later in pregnancy (when you can feel them) versus after they were born? Like if those who were more active in the womb seemed to be...I don't know, maybe awake more or more vocal, or vice versa for those less active in the womb.

Jan '17 August siggy challenge: Cat fails

  • @Dinozaur My experience was a very inactive baby during ultrasounds. She seemed most active at night when I'd lay down to go to sleep. This is pretty common though since most babies are lulled to sleep due to the rocking motion of mama moving around during the day. Then at night, party time!

To to answer your question, my DD is now a firecracker that NEVER sits still.

@Dinozaur my daughter was a SLUG in the womb. She didn't kick much, and gave me heart attacks regularly so I had to go in for NSTs constantly. She was born and is a non-sleeper and always has been. The type of newborn who slept 10 hours/24 hours. She isn't a crazy wild child, but, she never sleeps. Never stops moving.
  • @Dinozaur my first never kept me awake at night in the womb. He has been an amazing sleeper (8 hour stretches from 2 weeks on) and he is still an amazing.

My my second NEVER stopped moving in the womb. I mean he did all kinds of alien looking weird stuff. And even came out with 2 knots in his cord and it wrapped around his neck twice! The child NEVER sleeps. Even as a newborn he was once awake for 12 hours (which I thought was impossible).

Im praying our third is like our first! Haha

  • @BriannaE129129 I have been having the same issue.  I'm so glad you brought this up!  Today has been the worst it's been for me so far.  Sometimes it's a sharp sudden pain after I sneeze or when I'm standing up.  But today I just had a lot of discomfort and ache-ness in my lower abdomen.  Although it's not comfortable, I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one going through it.

  • @Dinozaur DS1 was a lunatic in the womb, he is still a lunatic at nearly 3 years old.

DS2 also has similarities.  I was constantly telling my mom and DH and much rougher he was on me than DS1 was.  His kicks and movement were uncomfortable and occasionally painful in a way that my first's weren't.  He is still a very rough baby.  Not hitting or biting "rough" just a big bruiser if that makes sense.  Everything he does is just with all of his energy and strength.
  • @kelseyh62 right? I feel such relief knowing it's common. Thank god for this board!

  • @BriannaE129129 I get that a lot more with this pregnancy than I did with my first. Everything I've read and in talking with my OB just round ligament pain (RLP).

@Tinabelcher Are you in to Yoga at all? I took prenatal yoga with my first starting about 20 weeks or so and this time around I started at 13 weeks. I love it. I try to do yoga between pregnancies but it's hit or miss but while pregnant it helps so much with some of that icky feeling. Not only does the overall practice help me to stretch, lengthen, and relax but my instructor is great at helping with specific aches and pains and some positions to try at home to alleviate them. The overall movement really helps with some of those annoying aches and pains.

  • I do have a question for other moms. It's early, but I need a new diaper bag. With my first I had one that had 2 straps and went over one shoulder that worked well but always seemed really bulky. When he was about a year I decided I could purchase another one that is more of a messenger style. It's too small and the zipper has busted because I put too much stuff in it. I need a new one and don't really want to wait until the 2nd is born. I really like the idea of the backpack because it will stay in place when trying to do things with 2 kids and so far the Jeep Perfect Pockets seems like it has a ton of storage, lots of useful pockets, and isn't going to break the bank. Anyone else have any backpack diaper bags you love??

  • @Carly79 I haven't been to prenatal yoga yet (ugh my practice suffered miserably with morning sickness) but I am a yogi and love it so much! It totally makes sense that it would help this uncomfortable feeling, thank you for reminding me to get my ass back to class!!
  • I'm not totally sure this fits in here, and I'm sure it's probably totally normal.... But here goes.
All morning I've been having this weird twitching happening in my abdomen (kind of like when your eye twitches). It doesn't hurt really, but it's very odd. I'm 11w today so I know it's not "baby moving," can anyone tell me if this is normal and what it is?
  • @Carly79 I'm in the market for a new diaper bag too. I had a skip hop one with two short handles and a long strap. I mostly wear it messenger bag style. But it gets so heavy and uncomfortable. I'm looking for a cute backpack style. I really want a jujube that can be a regular bag or backpack.

@Carly79 I got a backpack style bag when DS2 was about 4 months old and I definitely recommend it for Moms who have two small children especially.  Going to stores is so much easier because I'm hands free.  When I'm lifting one of the babies my big, heavy bag used to slip down my shoulder and become very obnoxious.  Getting in and out of the car with the kids is a breeze with a backpack.

I got a Vera Bradley style backpack.  The lady at the store told me that the only difference between the standard and the diaper bag (besides price) was the changing pad which I have literally never used before in my life so I went with the standard.  One thing that makes life easy is I bought a really cute, bright colored change purse to keep my cash and cards in.  I just throw it in the front pocket and it is so quick to grab during check out.

ETA: Forgot to add that I liked the Vera Bradley because you can just throw them in the washer when they need to be cleaned.
  • @Carly79 I had a skip hop tote with my daughter when she was little. I recently just started using my north face backpack. It works fine.
  • @Carly79 I have a Ju-Ju-Be BFF and I love it! It's a little on the pricy side, but it has really comfortable backpack straps and it also comes with a shoulder strap. I take my son out solo a lot and it carries everything I need, leaving my hands free to do activities with him. There's a mom pocket for my wallet and another pocket for my cell, so it doubles as my purse a lot. I'm so excited to use it with our new little one since I only got it a few months ago.
  • @underthesea I have that skip hop style too, and I was so excited because I thought it would hold so much and carrying messanger style would be awesome. I hate it. I can't fit crap in there, it gets so heavy, and I lose everything in there! I've been carrying my purse jammed with baby stuff even though the straps are totally falling off because it fits more stuff!
I'm in the market too but ugh all the ones I loveeee are $100+ and I don't want DH to divorce me over spending that much on something that dirty diapers goes in.
  • So this is my 2nd,.... Are any other 2nd timers having trouble remembering or feeling pregnant? I just feel normal and it kinda freaks me out Like maybe somethings wrong,... I'll be 12 weeks Saturday
  • I never like any diaper bags that I found.  I ended up getting a huge Haiku bag that I love.  I had a son but got it in pink because I'm a girl - haha.  I don't think they make it anymore but I'm sharing to say you're not limited to "diaper bags".  Mine has 3 huge pockets that we constantly use: front for feeding (e.g., bibs, burp cloths, nursing cover, snacks, sippy cups), center for changing (biggest pocket for our portable changing pad, cloth diapers, wet bag, wipes, etc) and back for backups (clothes, jackets, hats).  I love it.  And I can still use it without feeling weird after my kids don't need it.

  • I have been wondering this for a while...so for STMs (or third or fourth, whatever) that show earlier with subsequent pregnancies, by the end of your pregnancies, are you any "bigger" than the first?  Or do you just show faster and then the growth is slower as you progress so by the end it's a wash?  I hope that made sense.
  • Your uterus never shrinks down fully to its original size.  So, many show earlier because the uterus is like, "girl, I know the drill, I 'got this," and pooches out sooner.  The baby grows at the same rate as everyone else and it's a wash when we all reach a certain stage.

  • @LoneStar21416 I have showed much earlier but never gotten larger at the end. My second was actually smaller by the end

  • Here's another question for moms with 2+. Were your 2nd, 3rd, etc babies bigger than your first? I know everyone is different but at my 8 week check up my dr brought up keeping an eye on the size of this baby because 2nd babies tend to be bigger. DS was 8lbs 10oz, which I don't think is that big, but she made it sound like this baby will be a giant lol.

  • This is a really particular question so I dunno if anyone here will have knowledge on it but worth a shot. Do any of you STMs have experience using car seats with car shares? We live downtown in a city with a car sharing program (e.g. Car2Go, ZipCar) and the cars have a LATCH system installed but it sounds like only a select few models of car seats allow you to use LATCH with rear-facing and I'm not sure which exactly. Anyone done this and have any insight?

nolemomma14 My first was 5lbs 14oz, my second was 7lbs 3 oz.  Both boys and both born close to their due date, second was 6 days before his due date.  So for me the second was bigger, and my stomach was bigger in that pregnancy too at the end.  I gained 30lbs with my first and 32lbs with my second.  This third baby better not be too much bigger!  I am not showing faster this time though.  15 weeks and only showing a little. People who don't know me wouldn't notice it at all right now.

I haven't used car sharing but I will say that a bucket (infant) seat is very easy to put into any car with a seat belt. They come with the base but you don't have to use them, they are purely for convenience. LATCH system is nice to use for long-term use but it's just as safe as using the seat belt. My advice would be to borrow a car from a friend and go to BRU or another store that lets your practice with their models and find one that is comfortable for you. I used the Britax infant seat and it was very easy to install on vacations, etc when it wasn't in my normal car. But I think they all are.

  • @canavara I agree with @Heeb918. Seats are easy to put in the car with a seat belt and just as safe. I wouldn't worry to much about needing to use the latch system. I would also think that using the seat belt would be more convenient in a situation like this because you would not have to lug around a car seat base once you got to your destination.

    @nolemomma14
my first was 9.6. Second 9.7. Most people I know had similarly sized babies. TBH I'm not sure why doctors worry so much about size unless you Have GD and are at risk to have a baby at an abnormally large size. I'm not a doctor but my doctors have always told me that measurements are fairly inaccurate especially late in pregnancy.  I had C sections with mine but neither was related to baby's size. I also know plenty of "small framed" women like myself who have had vaginal deliveries with no complications and delivered babies much bigger than mine.

  • Hey ladies,

Does anyone have experience with having a baby in a one bed apartment? My husband and I live in a large one bed and our lease isn't up till April. I need to lock down a nursery place now so I'm wondering how long we can last before moving into a larger place. Plus moving with a new born must be the worst.

Is it doable to have a one bed while they're small? I'd plan on having the baby in the same room as us for the first six months at least. Has anyone moved while having a tiny baby? Now that I'm looking into daycare options the situation is stressing me out!

    Thank you!
