Swollen feet

How are y'all dealing with swollen feet? We have been doing wedding things all week and especially after wearing the uncomfortable wedding shoes, my feet have doubled in size. Anything besides putting them up on the wall? I've always had really dainty feet and currently they feel like giant sausages plus they hurt.

Re: Swollen feet

  • I'm realizing now that maybe this should have gone into the quick questions thread :/

  • I find that a soak with Epsom salt helps
  • Avoiding too much salt and propping them above your heart and also massage can help but I know we have to be careful with that. Drink lots of water. I don't know if there's much else you can do besides maybe compression stockings?
  • My feet have been swollen and sore for weeks.  For some reason, my right swells more than my left and the worst spots are the insides of my feet, right under the ankle bulge (it gets ridiculously puffy), and my soles right behind my toes.

I can barely walk on hard floors because my toes and the balls of my feet hurt so bad and the only shoes I can get on are my loose flip-flops and even those are tight in spite of my feet not looking that swollen (probably because I have long, narrow feet naturally, so they look normal but a little puffy now).

About the only things that make any difference for me are running my feet under cold water (I sit on the counter and put my feet in the sink, but I only do it with my husband's help; the bathtub would probably be easier, I guess) and epsom salt soaks.

  • @marikkita12 You may find the swelling goes down again since it only occurred due to exacerbation. Keep your feet up, drink tons of water and avoid too much sodium. That's what I did last week when I started to swell. After two days, it went away and I haven't had any since!

  • If I'm on my feet or doing a lot of physical work, they start to swell and hurt. I usually soak my feet in cool water or take a bath with some epsom salt. It's actually been nice that this happens during the summer, because there's usually a pool or sprinkler nearby. :D

  • Agree with pp about putting your feet up. When my feet get really swollen, I usually take it as a sign that I'm over-exerting myself, and so I try to take it much easier for a couple days, put my feet up as much as possible, and make sure to drink TONS of water and eat less salt. So far that has made the swelling go away. With DS1 it was the same way, and the swelling just came and went until I gave birth. After delivery was actually the only time my method didn't work--postpartum swelling was out of control and took over a week to go down!
  • First, I don't look down because the sight of them so puffy freaks me out. Otherwise, I've tried all the usual things - put my feet up, drinking more water, eating more hydrating foods (like watermelon) and less salt, some massage, etc, with mixed results. I've noticed the swelling is 10x worse when the heat and humidity are horrible (as it is where I live right now) so I'm hoping it will reduce once the weather improves.
  • My feet got really swollen after two flights and a car trip over the 4th. In hindsight, I should have worn looser clothes. A few days of yoga pants and lots of water helped cure my cankles!

Limit sodium, drink tons of water, and prop them up. All of these things have really helped mine!
