  • @rozANDbenSINCE2001 Congrats on your baby boy! Exciting!

  • Word is spreading all over Facebook that a BLM riot is planned for tonight, 10 minutes from where we live. There is no talk of peaceful protest. They are calling for an "uprising" and are calling on "armed citizens." It's set to take place in downtown Mobile, AL where thousands of people will be gathered for a monthly outdoor event put on by the arts community here.

Whether you agree with the BLM movement or not, please say a prayer, send positive thoughts, or whatever else you do that no one gets hurt- not citizens OR cops.
This sounds a little like a rumor started to spread fear and hatred.  I tried to Google this and only came up with right-wing websites like Breitbart and infowars.  This is one problem with Facebook - things like this get spread so quickly.  And it's hard to know what's true and what's fake.
  • I never had the urge to lick DS. If I found someone licking my baby then I would loose my mind.

I hope that's all it is. However, if so, it originated and is being spread by mainly black citizens of Mobile, which doesn't add up to me. There are live streams up all over Facebook right now. It seems peaceful for the moment, but things are being said like "until we see results, violence WILL be repaid by violence." Makes my heart ache.

  • I never licked DD. I bit/bite her cheeks, but that's it.

I have no words for what has transpired the last few days. As an LEO wife, I am terrified for my husband. As a mother, I am terrified for my children.

  • I just posted that same pic earlier!

Stay safe @CopperBoom86 !!! Snoop Dogg and the Game organized a peaceful protest in LA today at police headquarters, that could have easily gotten out of hand, but ended up I think being a good thing for the community. Hopefully whatever happens in your town can remain peaceful, although it sounds pretty scary.

@AllyTheKid wtf? I just looked back through and have no idea what would have been considered a TOU Violation. I admittedly am not super up to date on those though.

  • @CopperBoom86 how is the protest/riot going? My husband said there is a protest happening in Altanta right now that looks like it could get out of control as the police are blocking off the masses, confining them to the streets, and there has to be a crowd of 400 people.  I don't know where he got his information and if it's all accurate, but it made me think of you, and wanted to make sure you're still safe.

  • Not sure where online but somewhere there is a live feed of the "riots." My husband was watching. Luckily at least the part on while I was in there was just people standing around - nothing violent-seeming.

  • I work with a girl who is pregnant with her first and due 7/23. I was talking with her yesterday at work, and she said that when they leave the hospital, her mom is taking the baby home while her and her husband go out and have a drink. Then she proceeded to tell me that she needs sleep so her mom is keeping the baby at her house (the mom's house, not hers) for at least the first two weeks. She said, "dont worry though, I'm gonna go visit it every day." And she was dead serious.
  • @JamieK1882 What?! Why the hell would anyone voluntarily be separated from their newborn for two weeks? I can understand wanting some time alone with your husband, but straight from the hospital? Is it bad to say that this woman doesn't really sound like she's all that excited to be a mom??

I can only hope she has a change of heart when she meets her LO. I can't understand a mother wanting be separated from her newborn.

  • I have to know, did she really refer to her baby as "it"? @JamieK1882

    I thought the same thing!
  • And here I thought my brother and SIL were bad that every 3 weeks or so they drop off their daughter (starting when she was just a few weeks old) for the weekend.  I should say that this is one of those babies parents are jealous of! Sleeps through the night at 8 weeks, doesn't cry, just happy just hanging out. At first it started dropping her off Saturday picking her up Sunday afternoon, but it quickly turned to Friday evening picking up Sunday evening (one long weekend they were suppose to pick her up Sunday but they were so hungover they asked my mom if they could get her on Monday instead, which of course my mother agreed because she is loving this).  My brother was going to Boston for work a few weeks ago and they were asking my mom if she could take Friday off work so they could drop her off Thursday (which she asked but someone else was already off).  My SIL said they can take her with them and my brother actually said "ya but parents need a break too" my jaw hit the floor! They have a break for a whole weekend every few weeks.  Maybe I'll understand where they're coming from when my LO arrives but I can't imagine being away from my baby all weekend!

  • @LauraPCOS No, Nope, Nuh-Uh... You sign your freedom rights away when you decide to become a parent, end of story. And I WILL side-eye anybody who claims they "need a break" or feel like they are entitled to some kind of time-off from parenthood.
I am probably the least judgemental person I know, but that is something that really burns my biscuits.
  • @LauraPCOS this is exactly how my SIL is! Her kids are 8 and 5 but when the 8 year old was a baby (6 months probably) he started sleeping over at my mil's at least one weekend a month, every week when she had to go grocery shopping she would drop him off, and then almost every Saturday he went over so SIL could go to yard sales (and then both of them when niece was born). Then sleepovers would steadily increase as they got older. My mil has off on Wednesdays so now that it's summer they sleep over her house Tuesday into Wednesday and then probably every other weekend too. Then SIL uses the kids every time we get together as a family. She'll say stuff like 'the kids were asking to sleepover nana's all day today'... It makes me mad!

To be fair, my mil seems to enjoy it but when I had my dd she expected the same time and I was like nope!!! After about a year we let her start spending a few hours on Sunday's solo with mil and still today that's basically all she gets unless we are there too.

and just so no one thinks I'm a bitch only letting my dd with her a very short amount of time, mil and I hate each other. I can't get into it or this post would be 2 pages long, but even letting her have a few hours alone with my dd is hard for me.
  • I don't even know how people can send their baby to the hospital nursery. After I invested so much time in this super-precious thing, and went through all that pain and suffering for it, YOU ARE NOT TAKING IT OUT OF MY SIGHT.

And I do call my baby "it." We know it's a girl, but we're hiding the gender, so I'm trying not to get into the habit of saying "her" yet.

On a different subject: I've been watching videos on babycenter.com and this one for recovering after pregnancy said "don't just stay in your pajamas all day, that's saying you give up." Ummm that's what I already do... does that mean for me it's not giving up but normal, or does that mean that I've already given up? (Probably the latter.) Put on a little makeup? Ummm no. I'll have to go back to work soon enough.

  • Well, guys, it finally happened. We were at McDonald's grabbing breakfast before our road trip this morning, and a parent of child who has played in my orchestra for four years works there. She's way too comfortable and over-shares anyway.... She reached out and patted and rubbed my stomach for a good 3 minutes until thank God, the guy was finally ready to take my order. I was so stunned I didn't know how to get out of it. Then she said if I gave her my number (heck no), she would love to give me all of her 2 year old son's clothes. They are gross, so I am not interested. Then she came back by the table and said she would just drop them off at the school. So not only can I not just say no thank you, I will have to actually deal with getting rid of all of them. UGH!
  • @ashleyp625 Why is it that acquaintances are always the weirdest ones? I don't know about where you live, but there are clothing donation bins posted up in various locations in my town and surrounding area. I think most places have these now? I very well could be wrong though.
I still haven't had anybody try to rub my belly, hopefully I can avoid that altogether this time around!
  • Yes she called the baby "it," but the other times she did say "she."

I will say though, DH and I always said if we were rich the first thing we would do is hire a night nurse lol. I want our baby home with us, but there's something magical about 5 consecutive hours of sleep. Lol
  • I am noticing lots of bed rest mamas, would you ladies like a bed rest check-in?
  • @allythekid They really are the worst. No boundaries. I get that she's trying to help, but donating her clothes for her  is the last thing I want to be worrying about at 37 weeks!
  • I didn't even allow Harper to stay at my inlaws until she was at least one. She does stay the night about 1-2x a month now, but it's usually a cousin sleepover so DH and I can have a date night.

  • My brother and SIL were very quick to leave my nephews with my parents overnight and continued to do so frequently. I wouldn't let DD sleep away from home until she was 3. Once we let her, I realized that I was probably being overprotective and could have let her go sooner. I always used BFing as an excuse to keep her home when she was a baby.

DH and I went to Las Vegas for our anniversary when DS was 11 months old. It was one of the best trips we've ever spent together. Something about having a whole weekend to ourselves felt. so. good.

DS had severe reflux and colic until we finally got him on the right meds at around 6 months. We'd been through the ringer in terms of sleep deprivation (which is all parents, I realize). But, the added doctor's visits and hospital testing was a stress I wasn't expecting.

My mom and stepdad watched DS and had a great time with him from what I could tell. My grandmother lived next door to my mom at the time and was SUPER involved with DS, so she helped out, too.

I missed my boy, but let me tell you, we had a blast in Vegas. And, I feel no guilt about that.

  • @SuperNerd42 Not judging your situation, or many of the others on here, but as you mentioned there have been some extreme examples and THOSE are the ones that get under my skin.
  • I still haven't left my toddler overnight. Not judging those who have/do. We don't have great support nearby though.
