So glad you're doing better @annabenanna !! Take it easy this weekend! (p.s. do you love typing DH now? )
My little bean just kicked me hard enough that I saw my tummy twitch. So weird and so awesome. Now I'm sitting here trying to poke my tummy to get them to do it again!
@LMNOBaby I do the same thing! Except I think Baby B has turned himself or something. He hasn't been as excited as he normally is the past 2 days. I'm still feeling him down low, but his belly button punches have moved. Maybe he turned over, but I miss his little punches and seeing my belly move! I have been trying to cut down on the sugary treats too so that might have something to do with it.....

You guys, I'm reading "The Womanly Art of Breatfeeding" and for the most part, I find it informative. I've said before that I don't care for the formula/medicated birth shaming but I'm just trying to compartmentalize and take from it what I find useful. That being said, I have twice now read the recommendation that I LICK my baby to encourage bonding and breastfeeding.

Update: that gelato was amazing. Suck it gelato girl.
hahaha @AllyTheKid that makes me laugh. I got a call the other night from a police officer asking for Nadine (not me) because her son Juan was arrested and she needed to pick him up from jail. Poor Juan probably had a long night in a cell.
@annabenanna So glad to hear you're feeling better!
@SpaceBurger A Jimmy Johns employee did that to me a few weeks ago about lunch meat. I complained to the manager. Let them know how inappropriate that was! I got a $20 gift card for doing it, which was pretty cool.
@MRSCORKER Um....what??? I ordered that book to (used, so I only paid like $3) and told my mom about it since she doesn't like La Leche League. I was like "I'm just going to take the useful information and ignore everything else." Now I don't know if I want to bother wading through all that.
@MRSCORKER I remember having to put that book down when I was pregnant with DD because the suggestion that I lick my child was so absurd. I've heard that the newest edition is a little less . . . intense. I found the overall tone of The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding to be judgy, but I did go back and consult it a few times while I was BFing. I found Kellymom.com to be less judgmental and just as helpful.
@krzyriver I am finding it helpful and I'm learning a lot, there are just some really crunchy granola aspects to it. I mean, I don't care what other ladies do, you do you, I just don't think I'll be licking my baby.
@bnsmith85 The book keeps reminding the reader that we're mammals and points out that all mammals lick their young and do varioius other things that intelligent humans don't do. Because we're intelligent humans and not cows giving birth in a field.

Yeah, It's slightly sanctimonious and judgy but I've heard so many BTDT moms say it saved them during the early days and that they used it as a reference on multiple occasions so I'm just doing my homework. I will check out Kellymom.com as well.

@Blonde1817 yup it's freaking me out too. The few places I've contacted said either they won't have an opening when I need it or they won't secure something this far in advance. There is a daycare beside where I work that several of my colleagues use, but my little guy needs to be stable on his feet before they'll take him and I'm going back to work when he's around 11 months so he might not be stable yet (my niece isn't pulling herself up yet and she'll be a year old in 2 weeks)
I could NOT read WABF. Sometimes I felt like kellymom was on the judgey sanctimonious side.
@LauraPCOS- FWIW, it's unusual for a baby to not be pulling to stand by just shy of a year old. Not that it means you can count on yours pulling up; but statistics are in your favor by that time.
@annabenanna So glad you're feeling better! Hope your SO gets home soon & pampers you ALL day!
@mrscorker I just choked on water when I read your post. I can't wait to share that with DH! "So, honey, today I learned that I'm gonna need to lick our baby..." Haha that is greatness!
My best friend, her sister, AND their mother all licked my baby on the head on separate occasions before I asked them what the hell that was all about... they said they couldn't help it. I NEVER had that impulse.
Shortly after, I caught my 70-year-old aunt sneak a lick in on top of his head. So I guess that really is a thing for some women.
@MRSCORKER ... funny that you say that... I took a screen shot and fwd that post to my friend/neighbor so she could have a good laugh. This was her response (be ready to take in all the sarcasm):
C’mon now. It works for the majority of the animal kingdom.
There’s got to be some science behind it. And just think, you’ll be that woman
that brings breastfeeding in public up a notch. Not only do you whip your
breasts out , but there is a full on tongue caress of baby face prior
to feeding. ;-)

Hah! That would be taking it up a notch. Eat your heart out, La Leche League.
Animals do lick their babies clean after they're born, but we have soap and water to do that for us now. And I think kissing is probably just as effective as licking for bonding purposes.
I commit to posting it as a FFFC if it happens @NoraAurora Never say never I guess!
Also we have to stop talking about this...the cleaning ladies have arrived and literally all of it makes me LOL. They're going to start giving me the side eye if I don't start looking like I'm working a little.
Straight-out lick? No. Nibble? Yeah, probably. We kiss our pets on the head and nibble their ears (and my husband bites the cat's ears when she bites us...)
I unexpectedly got off work 2 hours early today & I feel like I should do something productive & useful with this time...but I'd rather just take a nap.
WTF... I just got a warning for a TOU violation on this thread, and I don't see how I violated a TOU at all! Good job, phantom reporter of stupid things.
Word is spreading all over Facebook that a BLM riot is planned for tonight, 10 minutes from where we live. There is no talk of peaceful protest. They are calling for an "uprising" and are calling on "armed citizens." It's set to take place in downtown Mobile, AL where thousands of people will be gathered for a monthly outdoor event put on by the arts community here.
Whether you agree with the BLM movement or not, please say a prayer, send positive thoughts, or whatever else you do that no one gets hurt- not citizens OR cops.
I've never licked DD, but we are big smoochers. We love kissing her cute little face and nibbling on her chubby arms and legs. I read somewhere that moms have the impulse to kiss their baby's face so often because you're actually inhaling baby's germs and then your body produces antibodies against said germs which you give to your baby via breastmilk! Our bodies are fascinating and incredible things, ladies. Maybe no baby licking, but there will be definitely tons of cheek smooching for us
also, we finally announced to our family that we're having a baby boy! So excited to start buying more baby things!

This makes me so sad. Why oh why all the violence.

This is so sad and so scary. I hope it turns out to be nothing major. And you stay safe!
