I just saw a slideshow on Facebook titled baby names: 20 moms get real about being 'robbed' and was wondering everyone's thoughts.
Mine is: I would be pissed if a close friend or family member did it to me. I was super paranoid when my SIL got pregnant first because she's one of those people who would do it on purpose (she did admit my names were on her list). But I also think people take it too far. My younger sister is mad because my bf from school just had a baby and used the name my sister liked. 1. They never ever speak and my friend rarely posts on Facebook 2. We live in pa and my friend lives in co and hasn't been back to pa since she left but my sister will not let it go. Drives me crazy!
@maf9866 It does seem a little silly of your sister. If a friend I don't talk to regularly used a name I really like, cool, we both have good taste. If it was my best friend or a sibling and they knew that was my pick, I'd be irked. My friends aren't assholes though and wouldn't choose a name I wanted. I feel like whoever calls dibs first on it, and how close everyone is to having kids... for instance, my bff probably won't be having kids for AT LEAST another 10 years, if ever. I'm also not one to hold back though, so they'd never hear the end of it and I'd probably make them too uncomfortable to use the name lol.
@Julia70286 you're nicer then me in regards to my sister, every time she brings it up I call her nuts! I like your last statement with being too uncomfortable to use haha that made me laugh!
@maf9866 If someone close did it on purpose without talking to me first then I'd be irritated. If it was an acquaintance or someone I am not close enough to discuss potential names with, then whatever. While my sister loves our names, she wouldn't use them because they aren't her style. However if I and a list of potentials and she wanted our number two name of whatever, then I would let her have it if she asked. We don't discuss names to anyone really until we have picked one though because I don't want to hear peoples opinions. I think your sister is being a bit petty that someone across the country that she doesn't talk to used a name.
@coffee89 it seems like it will turn out that we all agree on the close friends/family being off limits.
What about this situation: I was at a close friend's (she is my stepfather's god daughter) daughter's bday party. One of the attendees (friends husbands cousin) later told my friend that she had heard me address my daughter and was thinking about using the name for her daughter (she was pregnant at the time). I was bothered by that. So in that case: imitation is the sincerest form of flattery or irk worthy?
@maf9866 I have been terrified for at least a decade that someone would use my name(s). Right now we have a very special name that is not super common, so it would be obvious if someone else in the same circle used it. My cousin used the name Benjamin, which was high on my list, and that made me very sad. However, I would have still considered using it as it is fairly common. Also, I never "claimed" it, although I also think it would be very unfair to "claim" names and thus prevent others from using them. My tactic has been never say the name ever and hope no one comes across it themselves
@bnsmith85 I feel ya - hips suck. They've always been one of my annoyances in getting clothes to fit right...them and my boobs. (And I don't buy that whole, "oh, but they're good for child bearing!" business...) Don't give up hope, you'll find something fabulous to wear for your shower!!
About a year after I was born, my parents' best friend had her second daughter. She loved my name so much, she asked if she could steal it. So there's a woman who's only a year younger than me who is named after me. I always thought it was cool so I never really understood the fear of someone stealing a name. But my husband refuses to tell any of our friends our baby's name. I've told my whole family and all my coworkers. I just don't care. The only person I would be upset if they stole it is my son's mom. Lol. She's due two weeks after me and is team green.
@maf9866 I'm not sure about someone wanting to use my kids name. I definitely listened to people talk about their kids and thought "oh I like that name" or "not my style, I would not use it" but I never ended up using them and we haven't run into anyone using our names (Zachariah and Vera). I guess if it wasn't someone close I wouldn't really care too much but I might side eye them for pointing out that it was only being considered because they heard me mention it. If it was a name on her list and she was making conversation because you had it in common then I would consider it to be fine.
My husband's step sister is due a week before me and I was scared she would take our girl name, but we are having a boy anyway. And our name is still safe for #2!
Speaking of names, I'm gonna need to know why no one is trolling the sh*t out of the name thread lurkers. It's basically become one of my top 5 fav things to do on TB personally.
Anyone else still freaking out about finding childcare? I'm still wait listed at all the centers I like. Most have told me they won't have a space until March, April or beyond. Of course that could change, but that's what I have to go on right now. One is still constructing their new space and we won't be able to tour or find out their availability until September. And our back up in home lady fell through. So now I'm calling in home providers like crazy even though I haven't really liked any of them and I'm still not comfortable with how many kids they watch at once. But we don't have much choice at this point. So many centers and providers don't even call me back. I'm trying to figure out how to awkwardly ask my SAHM cousin if she would be willing to watch baby and how much to fairly pay her (until we get into a center we like). No grandparents in the area to help out either. I hate this!!!!
I guess this is random, but the girl at the gelato shop called me out last night for getting espresso icecream? She said, "I thought pregnant people weren't supposed to have caffeine. Doesn't it give the baby ADHD or something?" Caught me by surprise, but I told her you're allowed a little bit each day.

I would have told her I suggest that she reviews her facts before offering any further public service announcements. =/

@ibabyloveb87 Happy to Help Just repeat to yourself it's Friday! And treat yourself to something, I think I'm going to go have myself a brownie just thinking of treats ♡ I'm already in pleasant mood, a bit froggy but pleasant, so a brownie is just a little +1
Ladies thank you so much for thinking of me! Yesterday was hellish. Threw up everything and just was living on Gatorade and apple juice. Doc said my urine came back good, I wasn't dehydrated so she sent me back home with a prescription of Zofran so I would stop throwing up.
Last night was a blur. I had a friend drop off the Zofran and some crackers and I remember going to bed at 730pm and waking up at 2am starving (finally!) slept some more.. Now it's 815am and I feel like a new person!
DH is coming home a few days early from Atlanta and arriving at 130pm today. Hallelujah.
I have always been so carefree since the beginning of this pregnancy, eating everything and throwing caution to the wind. Let me tell you ladies, never again! I got 13 more weeks to go, I'm gonna be so careful from now on! And I'm gonna tell you ladies to do the same
Love this community, love you gals. Thank you so much for the thoughts
I'm gonna resume resting and finishing up game of thrones. Gotta take it easy on my tummy as its still feeling sore.
