Re: Baby Sex Thread

  • @scgirl6113 @jlea05 @mommywesley @Lecool That was one of many... special... experiences she told me about. My main take away from her pregnancy and postpartum experience is that doctors in France are hella patriarchal. "Wimmin havin' babies be crazy!" Seems to be their general standpoint.

I've read some pretty....questionable....things about the whole pregnancy/birth/labor experience France. Makes me grateful to be in good ole' 'Merica!

@jlea05 I've heard some cool things about the "sage-femmes" they have over there (midwives, or literally "wise women"), but I think that fluent French speakers have way better access, maybe, so I think the expat experience might be a little slanted towards the mentality we've both heard about.
  • @poetryandoceans No there is some really seriously creepy crap out there with onesies...

I don't know why people think that just because their baby is too young to understand what they're wearing that it's okay. At some point, I want to be able to show my future 8-year-old photos of them when they were 1 without having to explain what a blow job is...

  • As much as I hate vulgar onesies, I love breastfeeding onesies, which could be viewed as vulgar maybe.  "Hakuna mas tatas" etc.

Yeah this is a huge fear of mine too. We were told a couple of weeks ago that the tech was "80% sure it was a boy" and OH and I are completely convinced it's a boy... but we're reluctantly holding off on sharing that information with others. Maybe kind of selfishly, I really don't want to get a bunch of "handsome like daddy" onesies from various family members. My cousin's son was wearing a shirt the other day that said "Daddy's Little Home Run" and it really creeped me out that anyone would even make a shirt like that--am I the only person in the world that gets some sort of sexual baseball reference out of that?

@jessty3 I've seen charts that show that the fetal heart rate link to sex is completely bunk:

Total old wives tale stuff :)
I doesn't tell anyone the sex of my first until my baby shower. Best idea ever. You actually get the things you register for. I feel like clothes are personal. If you wouldn't choose clothes for me then don't choose them for my baby. Not in a mean way, but individual tastes vary greatly!
Oh my gosh, yes! This! Clothes ARE personal, and I never buy clothes for other peoples' babies because like you said, everyone's style is different. My MIL buys our daughter clothes for Christmas and birthdays, and she has hideous taste! I have literally never liked, nor kept, any clothes she has bought her. I always return them or consign them.

@canavara That's unbelievable to me that a parent would put there child is those. Those are horrible.

@canavara Oh my god, who would dress their kid in those. The "hung like a 5 year old" in particular really irks me. I'm not sure why people feel the need to sexualize their infants and young kids like that.
