  • @krzyriver - I think it's a preference thing these days. Your mom probably feels like it wasn't right because that's not how it was done when she was getting married. However, things are so drastically different these days that not all of the traditional to do's are common anymore. And in this case, folks aren't afraid to just be straight forward about what's going on. No need to imply. That said, I don't see a problem with what she did. No confusion around the topic.

@annabenanna I signed up for an Amazon registry a couple weeks ago - how do I get all the free things??? Nothing was mentioned when I started it!

I seriously contemplated sleeping the couch but since just moved, the couch is housing my clothes while I sort through them and there wasn't enough room for me. I don't think I'll ever sleep again.

@LMNOBaby @bnsmith85 I know this wasn't directed at me but since I've gotten it, I figured I would reply too. This is what happened when I did it: First, I would check to make sure the deal is running because it does disappear and reappear but the idea was you have to make a 'complete' registry with Amazon (I made mine private so I could get the free things and then adjust before making it public) for instance, you need to registry for one item per category. When that's done I had to buy one item worth at least $10 from the registry and then when that was shipped, they shipped me my free items.

Since I've thrown all of my freebies in the same bin, I don't particularly remember what came from them but I did get some good stuff. I also had come across a separate deal from MAM and got a free pacifier and free teething ring, but I don't remember those specifics.

Edit to add: the MAM deal was through Amazon too

I follow Steals and Deals for kids and Krazy Freebies in Facebook and that has been my 'alert' for those kinds of things. I have them so they filter to the top of my newsfeed since some of it (if not most) is time and stock sensitive.
  • I have always had pretty vivid dreams and been able to usually remember them the next day, so I don't know if the dreams I've been having lately are normal or a pregnancy thing.

Two nights ago I had a dream that my mom was driving me and Baby in a random car over a bridge when the river/lake/whatever was under us started to flood. And apparently the bridge wasn't finished or something but we couldn't tell because of all the water, so she keeps driving and at a certain point the car just tips over and we all drown. Nice.

Then last night I had a dream that my husband was cheating on me and I found all these texts on his phone and it was awful. Yelling and screaming and hitting him in the face and crying and ugh.

Vivid dreams, sure... but why can't I vividly dream about flying or eating the most delicious cake in the world or winning the lottery or becoming a famous movie star? Why do I have to vividly dream horrible things like dying and a cheating husband?

Come on, brain, get with it!

  • same here @bamacoop .... I'm dreaming a lot but none of it's good lol... last week I dreamed that I showed up to get things set up for my friend's shower this weekend (except I was setting things up a week early) but I got my dates confused and the shower was that day... I was freaking out about not having the favors done (never mind the food that wasn't there lol). And then the other night I dreamed that I couldn't get the baby to latch properly and I was basically failing at BFing. Both times I woke up super stressed... no fun!

  • I dreamed last night that I had a c section. And I thought it was really early, but turns out my due date was like 2 months off because he was a normal sized baby. I woke up like whaaaaaat?! At least he was cute  :)

  • I had a dream that the earth was being invaded by an invisible alien race, and you could tell which humans had been taken over because they would sit there shelling snap peas? Anyway, A group of humans and myself acquired super human powers and we were training for war, and I actually had the feeling that "This is it, this could be the day I die". Our base was located at an abandoned grade school, and I beat up a teenager/alien that was infected and for some reason it made me feel like a bad mom... weird ass dream.
  • @laurapcos good luck today! You will rock it.

A week or so ago, I dreamed that I had the baby, but I slept through the whole thing, including the first 2 days of his life. They went to discharge me and I told them no because I hadn't met my baby yet. Then I found out that H had called my family and they all had pictures with the baby, but no one bothered to wake me up. What??

especially weird for me, since I haven't remembered a dream since I dreamed about the Big Bad Wolf in second grade.
  • @MRSCORKER Yeah, I was kind of like "Oh that would've been easier" cause I had a couple people still ask if they could bring their kids.

@emmaaa I figured that was considered the "correct" way to do it, but I wasn't sure. Honestly, I'm pretty flexible about etiquette, although there are certain things I'm kind of traditional about. So I'm glad I did it the way I did, but this didn't bother me either.

@bnsmith85 Yeah, I'm a person that feels that etiquette changes as the world changes, but my mother was just so heated about it! I didn't know if this was somehing that was still considered inappropriate or if it was more because of her feelings towards certain family members. Lol. It didn't bother me and I totally understand not wanting to accommodate everyone's children. I was just curious what others thought since I know very little about wedding etiquette.

  • @krzyriver My cousin had a no kids reception and worded it "Adult only reception" on the invite, but I think the way they worded it was fine, too.

  • @JamieK1882, my husband has horrible sleep apnea.  Before we were engaged I just sucked up all the snoring.  Finally, I said something and he confessed he used a CPAP machine when I wasn't there - he was embarrassed to use it in front of me, though.  I finally convinced him he needed to start using it.  His snoring is bad enough...think FREIGHT TRAIN...I'm pretty sure we never would have gotten married if he didn't start using his CPAP regularly.  Now he even brings it on vacation.  Best of luck to you!
  • @CopperBoom86 The whole soccer team?!?  Your dream husband is a real jerk
I think cheating husbands must be a common pregnancy dream.  I've had it too.  Maybe it has something to do with feeling like everything is about to change.

@krzyriver I think your cousin definitely violated traditional wedding etiquette but the wording she used may be the only way to get people to comply with the "no children" rule.  The generally accepted way to convey it is to write on the RSVP card "Adults-only reception", and only put the invited guests on the inner envelope, but I think most people don't read the RSVP card and don't know the unwritten "inner envelope" rule (especially younger people).
  • @CopperBoom86 Two of the breaks were from boxing with my friends, so "friendly fighting", The other two were work accidents because I am the second most clumsy and accident prone person on earth, beat out only by FI.
  • I went to bed early and actually fell asleep quick for a change. Slept all night. Sounds heavenly. Except I slept so funny that my neck is so kinked I can't even look to the left at all.  :/

I'm halfway around the world but I am so angry/upset/emotional over Alton Sterling and Philando Castile.... DH has even heard the stories through the news here and he has so many questions. American is perceived as this great land of opportunity for my Tanzanians (and Africans as a whole) and he is so nervous of our potential future visit(s).....

    How does this KEEP happening?

  • Why, oh, why, with all the tax money Americans pay, does every police officer not have a body cam at this point?!?!

It keeps happening because people keep making excuses.  I've already read "he had a criminal record!" The police didn't know who he was so they couldn't have known if he had a criminal record.) "He was reaching for a gun!" (despite video evidence.) "He was resisting arrest!" (He was being held on the ground by two police officers.  Plus, since when is the punishment for resisting arrest death?)
  • @kmolleltz I just watched the video and can't stop crying. So disgusting! I've always been a supporter of the police, but I have less and less faith in them every time I hear something like this. They are making fatal mistakes and suffering zero consequences. I'm scared to bring my child into a world that teaches us that when you know the right people, when you are in the right position of power, you can get away with anything you want.

The punishment for resisting arrest is death and the fatal mistakes with zero consequences.... those two two statements seem to sum up everything.

Philando was killed just blocks away from where I use to live. An area I am familiar with. And I just can't even wrap my mind around it. Buckled in his seat? His gf and a YOUNG CHILD in the car?

I can't even get through most of the videos/statements without crying. I am so heartbroken over the state of the country.

This is the absolute WORST excuse of all to me. So you're saying because someone has committed a crime in the past (however large or small it may be), they DESERVE TO DIE??? That's disgusting to me. I could write about it for days, but I'll spare you guys and just say that anyone who shares someone's wrap sheet as justification for a wrongful death is as good as dead to me.

  • This is a very informative site about fatal force statistics in the US. Although it is very sad, it's always good to be informed. They even have a little write up about every person who has been shot and killed by the police in 2016. You can search by state, gender, race, age, etc.

Agree completely.  We've decided as a society that only the worst crimes are punishable by death, and then only after a fair trial and sentencing hearing by an impartial judge or jury.  And in 18 states, NO crime warrants this punishment. Yet this excuse is brought up every time a black person with any kind of record is killed by police.  If the person killed didn't have a criminal record, it's some other excuse (the most vile one being "if they hadn't been breaking the law, they wouldn't have gotten killed."  Because apparently selling loose cigarettes or having unpaid child support are now crimes over which you deserve to be killed).

Agreed! I saw it pop up on FB earlier today but I'm challenged and couldn't figure out how to get the link to share on here lol
Also, I know it's coming but it makes me even more nervous
  • Oh, and why I showed up to this thread to begin with...
I ordered a bunch of clothes online to try to find something for my shower. It all came in today and I have to return all but 2 items because of my fat freakin hips. I'm so disappointed I could actually cry :(
On a positive note though... my bestie still needs stuff for her shower this weekend and maternity pics and she doesn't have hips like I do, so she's going to try the stuff on on. Here's to hoping they work for someone!
  • I'm just going to try to use every bad thing that happens, every unjust killing, every tragedy that occurs in this country from here on out as an example of how NOT to be for my children, and try my damnedest to try to teach them to BE the good in the world. BE one of the people that give other's faith in their own species. Even if nobody gives them that same faith in return.
Love this. If we could all have this outlook on how to raise our children, the world would be a better place.

Also, my good friend from high school
had her baby (finally) this afternoon and talking to her about it is making me SO excited for October. She's so in love and I can't believe we're both going to have little boys!! Can't wait to go get some baby snuggles when she's ready for visitors  <3
