Best 1st Trimester Workouts?

Hello everyone!
I'm determined to get fit this pregnancy.. Starting out with extra weight is scary (atleast for me) I'm determined to do a pregnancy safe workout tailored to each trimester sooo that being said.. Any recommendations for 1st trimester ??? Ps I love Pinterest and find so much stuff on there but I'd never be able to actually look through all of it haha.

Generally speaking, doctors will allow for you to continue most workouts or exercise you already did previously as long as you feel comfortable. That being said, I'd recommend you discuss this with your OB because pregnancy isn't usually the best time to lose much weight or start anything new that's too intense.

Walking is always good to keep your cardiac function and endurance up. And focusing on a good, healthy diet will help from gaining too much though. Even though we're "eating for two" we really only need about 300-500 extra calories per day, and that's not even until second trimester.

  • Thank you for your reply! I mean low key exercises or even yoga c: just enough to stay fit not necessarily lose weight .. I understand that gaining is perfectly normal .. I just don't want to gain to much c:

@Hallowqween I peruse Fit Pregnancy's website for exercises.  Right now I am on pelvic rest which sucks because I am usually very active. Swimming is an amazing pregnancy workout because you get toned while getting in your cardio. I am also really concerned with gaining too much weight but thankfully the vicious morning sickness I have been experiencing since Saturday has caused me lose some weight, which my OB applauds, since I am carrying some extra weight.

  • I love Zumba, super fun and you can make it lower impact.  I've toned down a lot of the jumping since I found out I was pregnant.  I plan on doing yoga too, once the belly starts growing I'll probably transition to a pre-natal yoga class. I second @Scarlett830 with regards to new activities.  I've read they don't recommend you start anything new that's too intense, but it sounds like you're already on top of that.  Good luck!!!!

  • Thanks everyone! I have a couple I found to try.. I'll keep anyone updated who would like to know what works best!
  • @Hallowqween please do! I've started perusing and could def use some other mama inspo!

  • Yay I'll keep you updated! C:
  • As of right now I plan to do a lot of walking and arm workouts and squats! I want to really keep the weight down (not due to vanity, due to the fact that I'm already over weight) so that I can have the healthiest pregnancy possible!
  • I am planning on continuing to do Zumba and lift weights. I did both my first pregnancy and I truly believe exercising during the pregnancy helped me recover faster from my c section

  • I am over weight and I have the same concerns I am going to start walking every day but working 2 jobs is kinda hard because I'm so exhausted but I really need to keep my weight done for my health as well as for my bundle of joy
  • @Schumerator I've heard squats are great during pregnancy!
  • @FrancesGrace630 Haha that's what I've read too! I'm really hoping to keep up with the physical activity as long as possible to hopefully be really strong/ready for birth! You are a runner aren't you?
  • @Schumerator Yeah, I typically run a half marathon every year but this year I have really dialed it back just because my heart wasn't in it. I've mostly stuck to really short distances for running so far this year.

Good for you for wanting to have a fit pregnancy!! Your body will thank you! You can do anything you want to (if you were doing it before pregnancy) but if you haven't done much before, just keep it beginner level!  Yogais great, walking is awesome! Swimming or water aerobics is perfect for a pregnant body!  But really anything is good. Focus on getting 30min of increases heart rate a day.

Only real no no's: laying on your back after tri one (reduces blood flow) and don't let yourself get overly winded-baby gets oxygen from you-so if you're not breathing-their not breathing.  So just Dont push yourself so hard you're dying-make sure you can still talk while you're doing whatever exercise you try!

    Goodluck mama!

I just finished the 15 day mommy challenge workout videos. I love them so much I've been through them twice.   They are great because they are free, she tailors the workouts to pregnant and newly postpartum moms or has more challenging options.  Also they are all just under 30 min. I found them through Facebook.

Here is the link to the workouts (hopefully this works)
