3T Tuesday 7/5

It's Tuesday, right?

1. I've been super slacking on the board lately. It's like nothing is keeping my full attention. I go through my rotation of TB, Facebook, Instagram, and nothing keeps my attention for more than 5 minutes. I do browse Pinterest, but I can't for too long, because it makes me hungry. I need browsing recommendations.

2. An old roommate reached out to me recently about becoming a consultant for R&F. While I appreciate those who have successful businesses through an MLM platform, I don't think it's for me. Plus, I've never been a poster child for skin care. I mean, I wash my face but that's the extent of it...

3. We went to my in-laws for a cookout yesterday and when we got back, I found a tick on DS :( Does anyone know if there are safe (& effective) bug sprays for babies? Ugh. They're SO gross.

  • @kbrands7 thanks. I'll check out babyganics. Also yay for DS 1 sleeping!! Woo!
  • @PYLWhammy hugs! Revel in those good days!

    2) Last night I thought to myself "did I really name my kid Harper". I wouldn't say it's name regret, but more so that I never thought it was a name I would have gone for.
I've had a similar moment where I looked at Ainsley and thought "huh, I named her Ainsley Odette." I think it's because I've been throwing around names for so long, and I'm still in awe that she's here and I've actually named her, if that makes sense. Her middle name was actually a last minute decision (it was that, Ainsley Lucille or Ainsley Kate)...I chose it after I saw her, which is something I thought I'd never do!
  • 1. We're supposed to go camping with my family this weekend but the weather up north is rain and that's not really doable with a newborn. Instead we're all camping in my parents back yard, should be interesting
    2. Pollie is becoming so interactive during her awake time! I love making faces with her and hearing her "talk" to us
    3. Good luck to all you mamas going back to work soon! I still have five weeks but am dreading it
  • 1. My husband and I made a plan to stop watching TV with Sierra in the room after one month, and to stop looking at our phones around her too (other than doing practical stuff). Today is Day 1 of that, and so far I've been on the computer for 2 hours. This wasn't the plan - but I swear I was doing necessary stuff, like reviewing our will and paying bills! This is going to be a challenge though, I am such a TV addict. Really hoping it makes me a more productive person though, and that I forget about TV soon!

    2. It's laundry day. I never have much laundry to do at once since I have so few clothes that work with my post-pregnancy body and the whole nursing situation - and baby clothes are tiny, so don't take up much space even if there's a lot of them. Does anyone else combine their laundry with the baby's? And yes, I mean the baby laundry that has varying amount of poop and spit-up on it. I honestly can't make myself care at this point, but it still feels kind of gross. Pretty much would just like to hear that I'm not the only one who does this.

    3. I've eaten two cookies and half a banana so far today, and I was proud of myself for the banana part. Eating healthy is on my list of things to do too, but I can't tackle the eating and the TV thing at the same time! Although I will say, it felt weird to just sit there silently eating cookies. Made me realize how much mindless eating I do when I'm watching TV.

    4. Breaking the rules and going with 4! Anyone have to change their garbage service since having the baby? In Portland trash is just collected every other week, and we've always had the smallest trash bin, and it's starting to feel impossible to make it work with all these diapers!
  • @Pascal86 We had the smallest bin too, and it usually worked because we were pretty diligent about composting/ recycling most stuff, but I'm living with my folks for the month and they just like can't handle separating everything out and their trash bin is constantly overflowing! I'm sure the baby diaper situation is not helping either. What part of Portland do you live in?
  • @Pascal86 really the only time I combine laundry is when there's something gross in the boys' laundry that I don't want to sit until there's a full load. I rinse bad messes first, so I don't feel like it's a big deal.
  • @pascal86 we wash baby's clothes with ours. We're already washing diapers every 2 days so having yet another load of laundry would drive us mad.
  • @Bellodomani - We separate everything but it's still tight! I'm hoping she stops pooping with every feed soon, that would probably help the diaper situation. We're in SW Portland, pretty close to Council Crest - what about you (although I know I read you're moving away soon :disappointed:)?

@PYLWhammy - Thanks, I feel validated now! @kbrands7 - I always rinse with cold water and rub hand soap on the poop so hoping that gets the main nastiness off, especially since Sierra's poop-covered clothes are swirling around with my every day clothes in the washing machine right this second.
  • Omg @Bellodomani we wore matching pjs for Christmas from Hanna Andersson in a similar pattern as that sweater. We were that family, me pregnant, toddler and my husband that I strong armed into wearing ridiculous pjs.
  • 1. DH called the other night for a few minutes...I balled the entire time so between the 30 second delay between every phrase he and I said and my crying the conversation was pretty much a flop. I'll have to keep the delay in mind and get my sh*t together so I can actually talk to my husband for the next opportunity we get.

    2. DD has been playing the "push up" game for the past couple days. Whenever I have her on
my lap in the sitting position she pushes on my belly to try to pull herself up on her feet and wants to stand and "jump". Lifting 12 lbs of baby in the air and holding her in the standing position is a serious work out.

    3. My dad has been such a help and I've managed to get 6 boxes packed in the last two days. Maybe this whole packing the house up and moving thing will go better than I had anticipated!
  • 1. I've done 4 days of C25k in the last week. Feels good to run. While it's been easier than I thought, it's still been an ass kicker and a good program to follow to build up my endurance.

    2. I had a such a good weekend with my little family. I didn't want it to end.

    3. Cora goes to daycare in a week. I'd hate to leave her but I'm back at the office this week and she's with me. Luckily she's very easy and good in the office, but it's not fair to her or my job. She's such an easy baby and goes with the flow, I'm hoping it will be a smooth transition for her.
  • 1. It's DH and my anniversary. We asked my brothers/mom to watch Ezra and they declined in the nicest way- they said they felt like Ezra and I had a special bond and they weren't sure they could care for him exactly the right way yet. That made me feel nice because I am sort of controlling.
    2. Like I said in the weekly ransoms post I've become obsessed with the Adnan Sayed case and have been listening to the second podcast on the subject all day and texting my DH in all caps different pieces of evidence I found fascinating.
    3. My baby is two months old yesterday. Where did those two months go?!
  • 1. I found my Fitbit after losing it for a year and a half (or more!). I think it's the perfect timing to help motivate me in my post partum weight loss mission :-)

    2. LO should be sleeping in his RNP next to the bed right now... Preferably for several hours like he has been recently. But no, I am holding him in the rocking chair because that's the only way he won't cry. I want to go
try and lay him back down but I'm also nervous he'll cry again. Basically that's how I would summarize life with a newborn... The constant game of whether or not the baby will let you put them down LOL

    3. I've been bummed the last few days. LO is almost 7 weeks... 7 weeks is a long time to go without any time to myself. 7 whole weeks and I've only NOT been with LO three different times for a little less than an hour each time... One time to panera, another to get groceries, and another time to run to old navy for a July 4th shirt. Less than 3 hours in 7 weeks that I've been separated from LO. I love him so much, but man I am jealous of my husband... He went golfing and was gone for six hours today. He's going to work all day tomorrow. And here I will be... Feeding LO every 2-3 hours for what feels like eternity!

Sorry for my depressing three things :-(

  • @Bellodomani I feel like you should totally post a pic of the 80's throwback! Haha!
I need to take some better ones, but here's one in this hilarious letterman jacket with a duck hood bonus- my mom digs up our Hanna's Christmas sweaters every year for my son, and two years ago she found this one which I absolutely love!
They just look like hispter babies!! That's adorable and I also love that sweater!!! Your kids can go and join @tripledaggerWed95976 's at the 'cool kid' table
  • @Bltbear82 That's amazing, I literally can't imagine any scenario where my husband would agree to that but it would be so great!! My mom used to put all 6 of us in matching Hanna's pjs growing up.

@Pascal86 I had been living in Montavilla the past few years because it's like the only neighborhood on the east side that is still affordable for families, but I just moved back in with my folks at my childhood home on Hawthorne in SE. And yeah, we're moving to New York next month which I'm partly excited about but partly super sad because I love Portland and it's been such a great city to raise children in  :/

@Bellodomani Yeah I bought my house from my grandparents so it never went on the market, otherwise no way I'd afford it here! You might have grown up really close to my husband - just east of Mt. Tabor on Hawthorne too!
  • @Pascal86 Crazy! Did he go to Mt. Tabor or Franklin? That would be super weird if we went to the same school! I grew up right by the Hawthorne Freddy's.
  • @Bellodomani He went to Marshall, class of '00. Close to Franklin though - we actually met at a race at Franklin!
