  • @PhoebeJune1984 I tried to explain to her that I'm controlling my diet and exercising, so I don't know why she would be so suprised if I did NOT birth a larger baby, but I don't think she quite understands how it works. But it's super comforting knowing that just because you have gd, doesn't always mean large babies! @DarkCat

  • @Backbypopulardemand I'll be thinking of you tomorrow!
  • Wtf body...we need to sleep before baby comes! Insomnia until 2 and waking up at 6 doesn't count. Arg so tired.

Because postpartum cramps, aches, and hugely painful engorged boobs isn't enough,  my wisdom teeth have decided to kill me today.  Ouch.
This is me today. I feel for you, girl.
  • @nikkimarie159 - my SIL had GD and her baby was right around 6 lbs. She did a great job controlling her sugar all through pregnancy and took her medicine as prescribed. People make assumptions but really, babies born from moms who have GD are only large if the sugars aren't well-controlled (or they would've been born large anyways due to genetics).
    Me (32) & DH (35)
    Married 10.10.10
    DD born 7.25.16 <3

  • If my MIL says ONE MORE THING about how she thinks I'm going to give birth to an extremely large baby due to my GD I am going to flip. I already feel bad enough about it. No need to keep bringing it up!
@nikkimarie159 my mom's sister keeps saying the same thing. My DD was over 9 pounds, so really, if this one is around 9 pounds, I wouldn't be phased at all. I have GD (I didnt have it with DD), and I kept telling her that large babies aren't always the end result, as most of my friends with GD had babies smaller than their non-GD babies. Finally I just said "Actually, my OB said that she rarely delivers huge GD babies, because people with GD have to watch what they are eating a lot closer than someone without GD, and are more aware of how much sugar and carbs they eat. She said the only time she delivers a big baby, is when she has someone that is on diabetic medicine, who is just eating willy-nilly because they think since they are taking the medicine, they can eat whatever they want..." It was a white lie, but once I said that, she stopped bringing it up (because she knows that I am diet and exercise controlled).
Lurking from June (bored AF) and I had diet/exercise controlled GD and my baby was born at 6lbs 9oz. They had predicted according to a scan at 34 weeks she was already at 6lbs and a huge tummy.  So we didn't buy any newborn clothes or diapers. Big mistake! She seemed teeny tiny. Even at 3 weeks now she is just over 7lbs and newborn clothes are still baggy on her. I get told a lot how small she is and when people find out I had GD they are doubly surprised.
  • My mother and MIL both had GD during their pregnancies and had "normal" sized babies. My BFF also had GD and gained 60 Plus pounds her entire pregnancy. Her doctor kept pushing her to get induced at 37 weeks, but she refused. She watched everything she ate and ended up giving birth on her due date to a 5lb 5oz baby. She was happy to have stuck to her guns and not been induced otherwise she doubts her baby would have been 5lbs.

@nikkimarie159 Good idea telling her your OB said that (even if it wasn't true.) Anything to get them to leave you alone!
