Re: Bed rest mamas
Sorry for the long rant. Ive been waiting to have other mom's to talk to about this.
I was hospitalized June 12 - 17 and have been on bed rest at home ever since. Im 30 weeks tomorrow. Im allowed to get up to pee, shower and cook easy meals. The only time I can leave the house is for Dr appointments. Im on bed rest for a shortened thinned cervix, degenerating massive fibroid and I lost my mucus plug. I went into labor when in the hospital but they stopped it.
Im slowly going crazy. Netflix has lost its appeal. It so warm outside I would love to walk my dogs or go to the cabin for the weekend. I cant imagine doing this for 6 more weeks. My Dr doesn't think Ill make it past 36 weeks. Every day now is just a bonus since they thought she was going to be come a few weeks ago. I was already given steroid shots to help with my her lung development and given every test in case I deliver early.
Im finding it hard not to lash out at my DH. He goes golfing every Tuesday, out for lunch with his friends etc. I know I cant expect him to be on bed rest too but its hard being alone all day and night bored out of my mind. Im also finding it hard to get prepared for baby. I make lists and DH goes and gets what I think we need but I want to go baby clothes shopping and see things in person.
Lastly Im worried about delivering vaginally and not being prepared. I was walking an hour a day up till being hospitalized. I was trying to prepare and exercise for an easier delivery. Now I cant do anything. I also had to cancel my prenatal classes as my Dr said it would be to much for me. So now I have no idea what to expect, how to breath, drug options etc. Im sure I can research it but Im upset and wont be as informed or prepared as I had hoped.
This isn't ANYTHING like hat you're going through but I was sick last week and got really dehydrated and had to stay in bed for two days and I even thought to myself "man, bestest is so hard!". Then I thought, well, I guess if it were this or a little preemie that had to be on bed rest the first few weeks of its life I would choose for it to rest in my belly.
What other things can they do in bed guys? You could maybe knit a baby blanket! Sew, paint a watercolor for the baby's room, or even have the hubby FaceTime you from stores to try and get a better experience.
Us other ladies are here to offer support too!
Thanks for starting this. There are do many levels of bed rest. Still trying not to feel sorry for myself bc baby is what's important.
I've been on limited duties since March. Had to stop teaching which was sad. Love my students! Working from home for now.
I was actually sad when my Dr told me that I couldn't go to costco until approved. Had cerclage surgery, can do more outside of home but limit myself to 2 things per day. Everyone always making me sit down. My BFF rolled me around Church one day in a wheelchair.
Praying for a good final trimester and delivery for us all! Stay strong...
@Prof=Mom yeah my Dr. specifically said no Laundry or Cleaning. My DH was with me at the appointment so he made it very clear to him that I could not do any of those things.
Its hard because DH doesn't clean like I would or know how to do laundry properly. His Aunt and Uncle are coming up for a visit next week for 3 days (even after I said no) and I cannot clean the house for them. Its been 3 weeks and my floors aren't washed, bathrooms are a mess etc. I cant even go out for dinner with them or entertain them. We told them that and they are coming anyways.
@csukkha I agree on the NICU. That's how me and DH think about it. Every day she stays in my tummy is one less day she will be in NICU. I cant imagine having to leave her every night in NICU and going home. I feel like I would lose that bond with her. Though for me this is almost 100% going to happen at least for a short time. If I don't make it to 36 weeks or she isn't over 5 pounds at delivery, they keep her.
I didn't know about the online classes so I guess I better look into that.
But seriously I will be taking advantage of the kindness of strangers and asking them to put DH in the grocery cart.
Beets and leafy greens are also hypertension lowering foods.
Im reading a book called Mindful Birthing that also could be really helpful in many different situations. Including bed rest. Basically gives an eight week course of different mindfulness practices for you (and your partner if they are interested) to work through that deal with the many sides of pregnancy and birth (fear, pain).
Sending each of you strength as you power through this!
Thanks! Here's to all babies born healthy!
There was no deep cleaning done, no groceries in the fridge, nada. I tried to cook veggies and burned them mercilessly. Oh well i told her i shouldn't be up anyway. But I finally forced myself into being ok with that.
In all honesty it was good for all of them to see that I needed help with the "take for granted" things that get done around here. plus the excruciating amount of pain that had to be managed was a reminder that I am still a human being.
I thank God that I'm feeling better, MIL is back home safe and everyone has a new outlook on pregnant life. Maybe next time she will volunteer to help out when she sees me trying to slide off the couch to do something. Or at least help me get up ; -)
