Trying to Get Pregnant

low AMH level

Hi.  Last week my PCP sent me to an obstetrician for a pre-conception appointment.  I'm about to turn 41 and just got married so H and I are anxious to get started but we were hopeful that we could get pregnant soon.  At the appt the doctor must have reminded me how old I was 10 times and was brutally honest with setting my expectations on how easily we could get pregnant.  She ordered a blood test and wanted me to make an appt with a fertility specialist right away.  I walked away feeling very discouraged but still hopeful.  This morning I got the results of the AMH test and they were only .22.  I have the appointment already scheduled with the specialist so at least I'm feeling like we are already taking the necessary steps but I'm feeling really discouraged.

Can anyone offer some success stories of pregnancy after getting a low AMH result?  Thank you.

You might want to try on the 1st trimester board, as many of us have never been pregnant. There may be an AMA board as well that might be good for your situation as well.

As most of the ladies here are TTC #1, we likely can't be of help. Try the trimester boards and I think there's an over 35 board, too.

I'm sorry that happened to you. Unfortunately the age thing is definitely a factor, and it's good the doctor didn't sugarcoat it for you. So you definitely know what to expect. This question would probably get more responses in the Trouble Trying to Conceive threads. A lot of the women trying here are still on a natural course. Use the search bar at the bottom to search for your question, that also may lead you to better responses! Also, feel free to stick around and join in on our daily threads. We have a TWW and WTO daily thread that I find very supportive!

Thanks gang.  I've been lurking here and will make an effort to participate more.  Is there a cheat sheet somewhere to what all the abbreviations for the TWW and WTO threads are?  I have figured most of them out but what is r/r/cs?  Thank you again.

@laurad75  I don't have experience with low AMH, but age and that alone probably warrant seeking the assistance of an RE immediately.  it's worth looking at your insurance coverage.  I know with mine if I was 40 or over (I'm only 37).  IVF would be covered right out of the gate with no requirements for other treatments & I don't think I would even have had to be trying for 6 months, but not 100% sure on that part.

Typically if you have a question about your BBT chart you can post a link to it/post a screenshot of it and people will "stalk" it and help you if they can.

Edited to add - like if you're on a computer right now (doesn't work if you're on your phone) you can see I have a link to my chart in my signature.  If I had a weird temp or weird pattern and I wanted advice I would say something like "chart stalk!  It says I ovulated on CD17 but it looks to me like CD20" or whatever, and people could look at it and offer their opinion.

@laurad75 I think the others are pointing you in the right direction about your specific question.  I hope you find good info!

As another AMAer who is 42, I am glad that your doc is being some level of aggressive...you won't waste time!  Also, I really hope you stick around and become active in our daily threads.  There is an Over 35 board with some lovely, helpful ladies that you should check out, but it's not super active, and most of the things we talk about here are helpful regardless of age.  I've found that participation here is not only informative, but supportive.  There are many challenges in TTC, and it's so comforting to have these wonderful girls to share with.

Selfishly, I'd love another regular contributor to be of advanced maternal age with.  There are a couple of others that are regulars here, who I heart and appreciate, and I imagine they'd be thrilled to add to our small but mighty ranks, too.
Thank you.  Now that I've lurked for a while I'm really going to make more of an effort to participate more.  I don't have a lot to contribute because I'm still learning but I do want to be a part of the community.  I was feeling really discouraged yesterday but I think having this network could be really helpful.  Count me in as another proud AMAer!

@Marley629 Did you have any insurance requirements before actually getting the testing done? Or did your doc make sure you were TTC for a certain period of time before doing the AMH test?
It's funny how it's the little things in life that mean the most...not where you live, or what you drive, or the price tag on your clothes... There's no dollar sign on a piece of mind, this I've come to know! *ZBB*
