Parenting Fails

I've been lurking a lot on pretty much all the other BMBs. Ours has become so slow since our babies were born. Anyhoo, I saw this one on another board and thought it would be fun! Share some of your parenting fails thus far!

Re: Parenting Fails

  • When LO was about a week or so old, I was changing his diaper in the MOTN. He hates having his diaper changed in the MOTN, and starts crying as soon as I put him on the changing table. This particular time I was trying to hurry and when I went to grab the wipe I put over his penis (in case he peed) I accidentally also grabbed his penis too. And yanked it as I was trying to remove the wipe. His face turned red and he did one of those silent for a few seconds until the scream finally comes out cry. I felt awful!! I cried too,and held him close and told him Mommy was so so sorry! He only cried for 30 seconds or so, but I felt bad for days!

  • I bought (and fed my child) stage 2 formula instead of stage 1 for a full week before noticing what had happened. Stage 2 looks identical in packaging, but is essentially cows milks. My little boy had diarrhea all week because it's not for 2 month olds and I was so worried, with not a clue what was happening!
  • I clip my son's nails while he's asleep. Once he let out a silent cry of pain (the red faced not breathing kind)  I got a better look and I had accidentally clipped the tip of his finger. No blood or anything and it healed really fast... But I felt terrible.
  • I had to water the dogs. All the while Roo was getting upset from being in his bouncer so I picked him up and put him on my bed on his tummy like I always do and walked out of the room. I went into his room to throw away a diaper and I could her him settle. And then as I started the water for the dogs I heard him start up again. I looked in the room but didn't see him on the bed. The poor boy decided he wanted to be on his back and rolled over and was apparently to close to the edge. And toppled. I picked him up and held him til he realized he was alright. Since he landed on a pile of clothes on the carpet. And didn't put him down for the rest of the day. I felt terrible.

Almoat embarrassed to share this... For the first week of Perrie's life I totally forgot that I had to burp her after nursing. How stupid could I be? My DH had to kindly ask that I remember to always burp her so she doesn't get so gassy! Major FTM fail.

I was baby wearing LO tonight when I unbuckled the two top buckles in the baby carrier to get him out and he went backwards and it scared him so badly:( I felt like a horrible mom
  • Was nursing LO the other night on the couch and I fell asleep. Deep asleep, DH was sitting next to me but wanted to see how long it would take me to wake up. I didn't.  The baby apparently woke up, started to cry, and squirm all over my torso until he found my boob himself latched and ate himself to sleep...I hate to think what could have happened if I turned the wrong way, or moved my arm. I ended up waking up to a very concerned hubby, who wanted to make sure that didn't happen in the middle of the night.

  • I was buckling in my LO in her bouncer and she was flailing her arms and I pinched part of her hand in the snap and gave her a blister.
she was smiling and so happy followd by that blood curdling cry that made me feel like he worst mom alive
  • It was 3am and LO woke up to nurse. I took him from the crib to nurse on the bed and I propped him up on a pillow so he doesn't get gassy. Must have been really exhausted cause I fell asleep. I woke up to a dull thud and LO wasn't on the bed. I looked on the floor and there he was, face down! I panicked and we both started crying. I frantically checked his head and limbs and there was only a hint of a bruise on the right side of his forehead. He cried for about a minute and I continued to cuddle him in my arm, thanking my lucky stars that everything seemed okay. I wasn't taking any chances, I went to the doctor's the next day for a thorough check up. Luckily I have a platform bed which is low to the ground so the risk of trauma from that height would be very minimal. But still....I hang my head in shame.

I pinched my DD1 thigh in her carseat buckle when she was about 6 months old. It was aweful.
  • Old wives tales say if they don't fall off the bed, couch or changing table before their first birthday they won't live to see their second. So you girls are all good :)

Oh. This gave me the creeps since mine hasn't fallen off anything. What an unpleasant thing.
  • @mamaroni He hasn't fallen off anything yet, but my DH has bonked his head on quite a few things...maybe that counts...I joke that if he's dumb when he gets older its DH fault.
