I have heard that any detergent with no dye or fragrance is safe to use for baby. Other than Dreft what is everyone going to use to wash baby clothes that is safe?
I'll be using Grab Green. I already use it for our clothes. I did some research and found that Dreft still has many chemicals. I buy it on amazon and it makes our clothes very fresh!
We'll be using All Free and Clear. We already use it for the whole family and it works great on stains and doesn't bother my 4 year old, who has super sensitive skin!
I started using seventh generation. My friends new baby is super sensitive, and his little face broke out after I held him for 20 minutes. I was using tide at the time. So I started using what she uses for her family so we don't have to worry about him breaking out from us when we see them. And it's sure not going to hurt with our new baby coming. She can also use dreft, but I'm not a fan of it, and I like that seventh generation is unscented.
I'm using Dreft in the very beginning, but I will switch back to All Free & Clear after I run out of the Dreft, or Gain which I currently use for the rest if the family. We used to use the All Free& Cleat when DS2 was younger. He suffered from some severe eczema when he was a baby and toddler. He's pretty much grown out of it now that he's 6 though.
I like Target's Up&Up "Baby Soft" detergent. Basically the same thing as dreft but less expensive and almost always on sale through Cartwheel. Smells soooo good!
I use the Biokleen free and clear liquid laundry detergent for my clothes now so I'm going to stick with that for now. I also just bought some of their oxygen bleach to try out.
I always use dreft or purex baby or babies r us /target generic version for the first 6-8mos. I just love the way it smells esp when you add the purex baby scent crystals.oh yummy lol Then it's off to tide or arm n hammer like the rest of the family.
I didn't realize this really was a thing. How important is it to use a softer detergent? I'm washing all of his baby clothes now but just using the standard tide detergent. Toxins? What's the deal?

It's more about the fragrances and dyes that are added to "normal" detergent that can often be irritating to baby's sensitive skin. No need to go out and buy specific "baby" detergent, just buy any free/clear detergent that doesn't have extra chemicals added to it to make it smell good or be, for example, bright blue in color.
I am starting to wash some of my hospital bag clothes and baby clothes. And we always use the free and clear kind...
But then I got to thinking about dryer sheets. We currently use the basil scented Meyer ones. Do they make an unscented dryer sheet? Should I not use dryer sheets for baby clothes?

I plan on using Method and/or Seventh Generation Free & Clear. I already use their products and just need to switch to the F&C version. I used BioKleen before, too, and will buy it if it's on sale.
I saw ECOS detergent being sold at my local Costco. Has anyone tried it?

I wouldn't use dryer sheets at all for baby clothes. If you're concerned about static, etc. you could try out natural wool dryer balls. I'm about to switch over to those for the whole family. No more buying dryer sheets and fewer chemicals on our skin! You can put drops of essential oils on them to make them smell nice or just use them plain. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GA9P5P0/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
@midwestbaby I just use the same dryer sheets that I always have. They are just Bounce (or on occasion the off brand ones from Dollar General). My dh and ds both have sensitive skin and they aren't bothered by them.
Beware of Dreft.. My stepson was ALLERGIC to dreft and so was I as a baby. All free and clear is one of the best to use for sensitive people. Don't use fabric softener. Dryer balls are a great alternative.
Wow. I learned a lot from this thread, thank you ladies. I'm definitely going with the free/clear detergents. My skin is sensitive too and it took me a while to figure out what was right for my skin.... Hopefully by choosing something with my dyes and scents I won't have to with him. Thanks again everyone
I'm going to wash all the clothes/blankets/etc. but will you all be washing things like the new car seat liner/some cotton toy's/ stroller liner's etc?

I washed our bassinet liner, the rock, n play liner, blankets, clothes, and the little pacifiers with animals that baby would have close to their skin. I didn't really think about the car seat liner though...hmmm. I think I will add that to my list.

ok good call on the pacifiers with little toys. Some of the toys are so annoying i have one blanket type thing that has wooden rings on it, so I need to see if that can be washed
If you do wash the car seat make sure to read the manual before you do. Some car seat manufacturers are very strict on how things can be washed and what parts can and cannot be washed.

@midwestbaby you have to be careful with car seats because they are treated with a flame retardant and it can get messed up by doing too much. Or using the wrong products, etc.

I read the manual last night and it said cold water, mild soap, and hang to dry. I decided only on washing the infant insert and if the other section gets dirty, try and spot clean it.
