Got a call Friday morning after DH dropped DS off at daycare. (Mind you, this is his first week of daycare and my first week back to work.) They said his leg seemed to be bothering him and that he was being fussy. Long story short, I picked him up, they said they didn't really know what happened, we took him to the ER, they gave him an x-ray and it showed a broken thigh bone! WTF!!!!!!!!!!! We spent the rest of the day and night in the ER waiting to have his leg taken care of and being questioned by Child Protective Services and social workers...not how I thought my weekend would be going.
DS is being a trooper and holding up as well as can be expected. He is in a full cast. (entire leg, around the waist and half of the other leg)...poor guy!!!!!!!!!!!
Please keep us in your prayers!
Re: daycare broke DS's leg!!!- WTF!
WHOA!!!!!!!! I hope to hell you are not taking him back there AND that they are questioned as well. Holy ***.
Poor little guy
OMG! What the heck did they do to him!!!!??? I would be furious!!!!! They also had the nerve to tell you that they didn't know what happened...someone has to know!!!!!
Poor little guy. I hope it heals fast!
That's F'd up. I wish him a fast and easy recovery! Poor little guy
whoa!
I am sorry - I hope that they will investigate and I hope the daycare has cameras...
WOW first of all I will keep you and DS in my prayers for a quick and great recovery. Secondly, I hope the daycare is SHUT DOWN!!!! Hes just a little man how do they NOT know what happened?? He shouldnt havent been out of their sight for a second. I don't want to drop mine off tomorrow now...:(
The detectives and CPS said they would be going to the daycare as well to question them. They don't think we did it and the doctors believe that whoever did it, KNEW the moment it happened because he would have been in extreme pain. I have been going back in forth between emotions of utter pain for my DS and being completely livid at the daycare.
I really do think it was an accident, but how do you not know what or when it happened?? Needless to say we won't be going back there...
We have several friends whose children go there and they've never had a problem and they highly reccommended them, thats why we chose them...I feel so horrible...it was day f-ing 5 of daycare!!! How am I ever supposed to trust a daycare again?
oh please... they know exactly what happened...
I'm so sorry. That's just horrible. I have no clue how that would happen but someone better tell you. I would be up there demanding answers. Even if they dropped him, it would be hard to just break his leg, right?
I hope your DS has a speedy recovery. Poor baby
Ditto punk. They freaking know.
While I think that our country is over-litigious, I would sue their ASSES off. I am not kidding. Accident or no, they aren't even owning up to it. I am thinking about how I would feel if I were in this situation and I can just feel the rage boiling up.
You poor poor momma to have to deal with this
I am so sorry... *hug* to you and your LO. What a nightmare.
My blog
I would be on the detective's butt about finding out who did this and pressing charges against them! If it was an accident, then you fess up!
Also, I would call a lawyer and sue them!!! What complete an utter bullshit.
i am so angry FOR you. i am so sorry that happened to your son
i wish him a speedy recovery, and i hope they find out how it happened & the daycare gets shut the eff down.
One more thing, I would call and demand my money be returned immediately!
Plus, i am kinda a *** and would think about calling the local news station and telling them about this daycare.
Me too. I can't stop thinking about this! Please keep us updated!
WOW. That is so awful! I would be so furious! I hope they have to take responsibility for whatever happened. Good luck to you and your family.
OMG! I hope your little one is doing better and has a quick recovery.
Just out of curiosity which daycare do you take him to? My cousin just started her DS at a daycare in the Baltimore area.
I just talked to my DH about this... he is so angry about this bc he gets so riled up about liars and negligence. The only way to break a femur, i would think, is a drop/fall or something falling on his thigh. I have worked in many daycares and my only word of warning to people is make SURE - 100% - that they have cameras in the classrooms that you can log on and watch or that you know are there. many prestigious schools say "we dont feel as if we need to have cameras bc we are THAT good" - but do not be fooled.
I am so sorry you are going through this and I hope that they are exposed. Like PP said - I would 110% call the news and talk about it. the more attention that is given - the more likely a detective and cps will be on their asses trying to figure out it and get the FULL story.
i'm so sorry you are going through this.?
you guys are probably going to flame the shiit out of me but can i play devil's advocate here? and i am in no way implying abuse on anyone's part. i am going with an accidental scenario here.
i realize you've been cleared by CPS but could this have happened at home? the reason i ask is this:
my grandmother, for weeks walked around w/ horrible pain in her thigh. she thought it was just arthritis but it got so bad she finally saw a doctor. turns out she had been walking around on a broken femur. i realize a baby's pain tolerance is different than an adults. but the point is that a break can happen without being completely obvious.
i'm just thinking that maybe at home OR at daycare he got caught up in something and twisted *just* the right way. ?like being removed from a carseat and somebody forgot to undo a strap. i know i've done that a few times. if this is the case then it would be feasible for whomever did this didnt realize exactly what had happened.
i just want to give you a little peace of mind that maybe, just maybe, it was an accident. as a mother that needs to use daycare i would be just as devistated as you and i'm so sorry you are going through this.
if it's found to not have been an accident or they are playing dumb, i hope you press charges.?
I was kinda thinking the same thing, Momma. I know there have been times when I've taken ds out of his carseat or jumperoo and he's gotten stuck. Maybe something like happened?
I hope you get peace of mind either way and they can find out what happened.
Some pulled on this child mighty hard if it was as simple as getting him out of the carseat/jumperoo. Breaking a leg bone in a child isn't easy. Someone should be held responsible!
thats not true at all.
"Femur fractures are not uncommon injuries in children. Fortunately, most femur fractures heal well, even with nonsurgical treatments. The amount of displacement (separation of the bone ends) that can be accepted depends on the child's age, with even widely displaced fractures healing in young children. Therefore, determining treatment of femur fractures should be distinguished by the age of the child:"
"Due to the rapidly growing bone in young children, the bone ends do not need to be perfectly aligned. The bone will remodel over time to the point where it may not even be evident the bone had been injured. Most infants and toddlers will require?spica casting?for about 4 to 6 weeks to allow for adequate bone healing."?
