@caribbeanmama My last pregnancy, I wanted to use a midwife at a birthing center. Unfortunately, I couldn't afford it out of pocket and insurance would not cover it. Up until you brought it up, I was in the mindset that that wasn't an option but I just realized that we change insurance since them and it might be worth looking into again.
Yes, we are doing BLW and pureed food at his daycare. He eats a ton of fruits, vegetables, dairy, and a little meat. His favorites right now are blueberries and sweet potatoes.
I'm not (I'm not even 5 weeks yet), but with my last two pregnancies before my DDs weaned, I started getting some contractions about the time I hit second tri. My OB didn't know I was still nursing or she would have had a fit.
@nattn Thanks for sharing your experience. From the article above they say it's a minority of women who experience contractions with nursing (sample set was small for the study) - like 5% if I recall correctly (read it a couple days ago). I've been having some.... so filled with a bit of anxiety as to whether it's just nursing related or something else...
So I'm slowly coming to the realization that I will most likely be forced to wean my 14mo bc my pregnancy will be labeled high risk. My water spontaneously broke at 35w5d with her and my risk for that happening again and sooner is high. I'm so sad bc I really wanted to make it 2 years and she is still so dependent on it especially at bedtime. What am I going to do? Some days she eats solids really well some days not so much. I'm going to see her Pedi at the end of July so hopefully I can come up with a plan. Tandem nursing might not be in the cards for me and I'm bummed out.

I'm sorry you're going through this! It's pretty normal for toddlers to have good appetite days and bad. As long as she stays a healthy weight that's all that matters. Maybe try to start a new routine at bedtime? Make things a little different so she doesn't notice the change as much? I will probably have to auto wean my son and I'm really bummed about it myself.
@kerris713 I'm so sorry this pregnancy may put a damper on your nursing relationship. I don't have any advice, just wanted to say I empathize and hope it works out to smoothly wean her. You should still feel awesome for making it to 14 months! My baby is really not eating solids either - so I feel the struggle there - he would rather be a little hungry and wait for milk even on days when my supply is clearly low. He still nurses every two hours and several times at night. He has always been a big baby - tall and heavy though that is changing now that he is moving around a lot more. I think I've never really had enough to satisfy him. All that to say, same here on boob dependence! I wanted to share that his pediatrician did put in a referral for occupational therapy to help with solids, which I ignored at the time because I thought he would wean when ready. I may reconsider it now though because I don't have a freezer stash and I don't know what he would eat if the milk went away - he's picky about solid food and allergic to dairy, soy etc. so it would be a real battle. Perhaps you could consider OT too? I obviously haven't gone so I don't know how helpful it is but will report back if we do... I do think my 11 month old eats more solids when I am out of the room and he is being fed by his Dad and he isn't hungry.
Again, sorry you are having to deal with this already.
Well what gives me a little reassurance that everything will be ok is that she's not nursing before her two naps anymore. We read her books that she likes before her naps and at bedtime (I've memorized about 5 of them so far haha). I think I'm going to start giving her an after dinner snack too to see if that helps with keeping her asleep. She's in the 11th percentile for weight so it just worries me to cut back on something that I know is beneficial and bf is such a great parenting tool that I hate to give up on it
I'm nursing my 14 month old still and planning to wean her in the next couple of months. We bf only really first thing in the morning and at night now. It is getting uncomfortable with my sensitive nipples but not unbearable yet.
Still nursing here. My dd is all over the place during the day so it's mostly a night time nurse. But I gave up the pump about 3 weeks ago I was just done with it!
So I'm still nursing my 15 month old, but just twice a day (bedtime and when he wakes up). My Dr. said it's fine, but she thought I might consider stopping since it's another major energy drain on my body. I was one of those freakos who lost weight while pregnant (sounds nice but it's really really not), and never gained it back because of the breastfeeding, so this time around we're concerned about it being too much to gestate and breastfeed (since I'm starting from a deficit of about 10lbs). But I'm going to try to go another month and see how it goes. He's a really good eater and loves (goat's) milk, so I'm not worried about that, just sad to let it go!
@ThumpersMom I'm sad about having to stop too, but oh man the energy drain is killing me. I feel like a zombie. I keep telling my H, I don't remember this exhaustion the first time!
I'm currently nursing a 10 month old - supply is tanking though, and we're both not happy about it. I was thinking I'd realky like to go till around 18months before forcing the weaning process. But it looks like we may be fighting that battle sooner than later. Especially for nights because waking up to nurse nauseous and exhausted is NO FUN.
Also, I'm loosing weight trying to sustain two babies at once. We'll see where the next month takes us! Good luck all!!
@kjd291 I am also currently nursing my 10 month old! Are you from S15 or A15? Planning to keep on nursing as long as my baby wants to! I was really hoping to get a session in once in the am and once at night after the first birthday, right now we are still nursing every 4 hours during the day, so I don't think weaning is coming any time soon!
I'm still BFing my almost 1 year old and plan to start weaning (I think... I'm still on the fence) next week. He nurses before every nap and in the mornings. I am scared that the pain will return (just like it did with my son) when the baby is born, though. Those first few weeks are horrible starting up again.
I nurse my 9.5 m/o before bed at night and pump during the day while I am at work. I am planning on weaning him around a year. Originally I had planned on continuing the bedtime session as long as he wanted to but the last few weeks have been so painful. Between the sensitivity snd cracking, he was biting for a few days so I ended up with even worse cracking and bleeding. I am finally healing up, but he is also pretty vigorous when he nurses these days so it is difficult. Also my supply has completely tanked. I went from pumping 20+ oz plus nursing him twice a day to pumping maybe 12-16 oz. I have tried oatmeal and coconut water and EVERYTHING and nothing has worked. Thankfully he loves eating food or I would really be stressing out. My freezer stash is seriously being depleted!
