I fell getting out of my car last night and landed on my left leg. I'm okay except for some scrapes on my leg and on my pinky because I was wearing flip flops. I'm supposed to go get a pedi done today and I hadn't shaved because I was waiting for this morning so that they'd be smooth but now I have all of these scratches on my leg and I'm afraid to shave. Priorities.
I also can't decide if I should just get a regular manicure or go for the gels because I heard they last longer. But then I heard it's also about $25 to keep up with them every two weeks and that's $50 a month. I don't think I want to spend that much on my nails a month. I don't get a mani often anyway--I'm more of a pedi person.
Sorry about my nail rant. Clearly this has been on my mind.
@Michi1382 ... You sounds like you might be my nail salon twin, so here's my take on the gel. I'm also a pedi person because when I get manicures they last like a day and then I've chipped something. Gel is great to fix that but I prefer to get gel for something more special (or when I just want to feel a little extra done up) than to keep it done all the time bc it makes my nails thin (even when I get the girls to take off the polish for me). It will last 2 weeks minimum, but now that your nails are probably growing faster, you may find you need them re-done more frequently. Also, I found a good place that only charges $12 for gel. Others are exactly what you've said ($25ish) and it's just not worth it, to me, to get done regularly.
@bnsmith85 You wrote out my sentiments exactly! I think I'll stick with my usual light-color-on-my-hands-so-that-it's-not-as-noticeable-when-they-chip regiment and do a happy summer color on my feet. Thanks girl!
Ooh I'm going to a wedding next weekend, maybe I'll go crazy and get my first pedi/gel mani in like a year! Or maybe I'll wait til next week so it doesn't start growing out and so I can maybe finish paints the trim in the nursery first. That decision might be my petty problem. I agree that even though you can stretch it to 3 weeks or so easily when not pregnant, keeping up with gel destroys my nails, and if you don't usually go often you won't like having to do it for the time and cost it'll require. For a regular day I'd say go with a pedi and do your own clear or color mani...to splurge once in a while or for special occasions go for gels but know your naked nails won't be back to a normal strength or feeling for a while (but maybe now is perfect because they grow so much?). Happy nail missions ladies!
On Thursday DH and I stopped at a new DD that opened up after our ultrasound appt and I ordered a small decaf iced Heath coffee. I saw it come up the screen correctly. They ended up giving me a medium for some reason and based on the heart palpitations afterward, I'd say it wasn't decaf.
Try a shellac mani as it cures immediately and lasts a really long time!
Afm, my petty problem is needing to use the restroom last night but not wanting to miss a song at the Dave Matthews Band concert. Baby certainly had a night of music appreciation! The parking lot attendant gave us preferred parking for free because my husband asked if they had a special pregnancy parking area in jest.
I always get gels. I have a standing appointment every other Saturday.
mine is is that I have to leave my house at 12 and by the time I made breakfast I didn't have enough time to get down the block to the beach and have a good amount of time there. also there's no breeze.
I have gardening issues. I planted trees and they got overgrown with grass. They can't be mowed, obviously. I was trying to hoe around them, but I didn't get very far. I just went out this morning and the grass is growing through even where I mulched. The ground is hard, it's 80 already at 9am, I don't want to get up earlier, I hate hoeing... I was going to stay out until I started to sweat, but then a mosquito landed on me so I noped right out of there. =(
@Michi1382@bnsmith85 As a nail tech I just want to say that if your gels are chipping after one day, go somewhere else. They're not applying it right. Gel last for three weeks on my clients. Also, you don't have to go every two weeks to keep it up. You can take it off at home and go back when you're ready for another manicure. It's not like acrylic where you have to go in for maintenance.
@UponAStar16 Gel polish destroys your nails? I've never heard of that happening to anyone. False nails, yeah, but never polish. But again, that's not something that you have to maintain. You can take it off yourself.
My petty problem is that my son didn't wake up to feed the cats. So my little one decided that he's waited long enough. He jumped on the baby and then on my face. Now I'm sore and my face is scratched up.
@LGW2015... I'd have been so mad! I'm super sensitive to caffeine bc I don't really drink it often. That would have kept me up all night
@Piperella... I would have been equally as upset about missing some DMB
@krzyriver ... My regular mani only lasts a couple of days, not gel. The gel lasts me at least a couple of weeks, but also makes my nails thin. It's actually a really common issue for the girls that are in my circle of friends... But we could also be the odd balls also... So sorry about your face! (What a weird thing to say to someone lol... But really, that sucks)
@bnsmith85 I had just woke up when I read that, so I must have read it wrong. Lol. That's strange. Typically people's nails are weak after gel because they're not giving their nails a break between applications or the tech isn't removing it correctly. Or they're using an illegal product. Obviously I don't know the place you go, so I won't try and guess if it's that or your nails are just sensitive. Lol. And yeah, I'm no longer speaking to my cat.
@samkins I didn't want to wear clothes today either. I waddled around in my robe for as long as I could to avoid getting dressed.
I had these grandiose plans on getting the house in order today so by the time everyone comes for Father's day tomorrow it looks mostly normal, but I haven't gotten off the couch yet...this may not be happening at all today.
So I decided to wait on the nails until next weekend and went to Target instead. What kind of person steals a shopping cart at Target from a pregnant lady? With a crib sheet and baby hangers in it?? Lazy mfers, if you wanted a cart you could have walked back 50 feet and gotten one instead of taking mine and the only 2 things I decided to buy this trip. Yes I stepped away to go down the aisle but still, come on. This might be my petty problem, Monday bitchfest, TW Tuesday, and WTF Wednesday! Just unnecessary.

Yea it makes mine super thin so they break or even tear sometimes and just don't feel normal until I grow them out again. It's happened every time I get them regardless of the salon....my nails aren't really strong anyway so I guess that doesn't help. I'm thinking maybe during pregnancy while my nails grow the fastest might be the best time for it then!
@UponAStar16 I have the same problem. Even when I take off the gel correctly, it still tends to eat up the tops of all my nails. I only very rarely get my nails done anyway, so it's not that big of a deal. I do get gel when I get them done because the regular just isn't worth it to me, they're chipped in a day!
@UponAStar16@LGW2015 That is so strange. I've never met so many people that had this problem with gel! The older versions were pretty harsh, but I thought all the new formulas had corrected that problem. And I have VERY weak nails, but I've never had a problem....except when I peel them off. Lol. Then again, I do have a friend whose nails react this way to regular polish. Anytime you put something unnatural on your nails, you run the risk of damage.
Do any of your salons offer VinylLux? That should cost about the same as a regular mani but it lasts about a week, even on me and I play in acetone all day. Comes off just like regular nail polish, no soaking required. I prefer that because I like to change polish so much. Maybe that will cause less damage??
Sorry if it seems like I keep lecturing everyone on nails! I just hate to hear about people's nails being damaged after they pay for a service. Whether it's the tech of the product, I want people to be happy with what they're paying for.
Amazon sent an email informing me that I would be locked out until I changed my password. Problem is the address they sent the email to is longer accessible (.edu from college days) soooo i spend all morning trying to access my baby registry and typing in every known password thinking pregnancy brain made me forget. I Called amazon after no success and that is when I found out they locked me out. AND they can't do anything until my husband calls to "grant access" for me to reset the password/email and use the account -nevertheless having to explain the problem all over again to a different rep..What a joke!
@UponAStar16 That's so mean! People are just rude. My mom was at Target buying things for my wedding (this was a few months ago), and she had to run to the bathroom. When she came out, a woman was rifling through my mom's cart and pulling things out to put in her own cart! My mom was like "Hey, those are mine! Put them back!" and the woman smiled at her, said "They're really nice!" and wouldn't put the items back-- my mom had to snatch them out of her hands. Some people!! lol
I don't really have a petty problem, except that we're working on my husband's green card application and we have to get passport-style photos taken. I really don't want to wear makeup, but I also don't want to look crappy in this photo.
My petty problem is I am so hot and we had a really bad wind storm last night and the thingy the AC uses to vent into the house got ripped off and DH didn't have time to fix it this morning before he left for work. I am dying, and since we got so much rain last night it's also humid, which makes it extra worse.

@agentcarter Do worry too much about your pictures. Worry about his. My dh took a funny one (his hair was a wreck) and luckily they used a previous passport style photo we sent in. The Green card process is so not fun! We did a conditional greencard, unconditional greencard, and then Dh's citizenship. So worth the journey!
My hubby painted the nursery today but he obviously has no idea how to paint because it's all streaky. That's not a big deal, just add a second coat and it'll be fine, but he doesn't want to do a second coat even though he only used half of the paint (he said it took him too long...a whole 2 hours), so he just wants to do "touch ups" which is going to look like shit because the whole wall needs to be touched up. He is also "done for today" where I would really like to just finish it. I'm really trying to find out if I can go in and do it myself, but I don't think I'm allowed to
@laurapcos If you're worried about the safety, I've read that modern paint is safe for pregnant women as long as your area is well-ventilated. If you're wandering if your husband will accept your taking over, can't help you... good luck!
@LauraPCOS I painted the nursery all by myself. I just kept the windows open the whole time. Most paints now are low odor and low whatever else they recommend for pregnant women. Lol.
@LauraPCOS I helped paint our nursery. The first day we worked on it we had the windows open, it was a warm day but not too bad. Today we had the air on since it 90F out and it was still fine. The paint we bought said low oder too.
Ya the paint we got is a high quality low odor, but we only have 1 window in that room and there is absolutely no air movement (and we don't have ac which sucks even more!!). I still don't think he'll let me help though which is unfortunate cause I would do a better job lol
Another one for me - my hubby wants to hang out outside and I wanna stay inside but I want him to come in with me and he doesn't wanna so here I am whining.
