Infertility

back at it again

Well ladies I am back. Had to take a short time away. To many friends getting pregnant around me and such. Plus I ended up changing my RE. So now after taking a month off we are going to try Letrozole again, however this time it will be at 5mg. I go back Monday for my ultrasound to see if it worked. I am really hoping I see something. The first round at 2.5mg I did not even respond. Which was extremely devastating. They also have me taking 1000mg of metformin twice a day. I also am taking myo-isotol as well per their recommendation.

Plus next week is my birthday and if Monday does not go well I do not foresee a good upcoming week next week. Any ladies out there not respond and then get some sort of a response from Letrozole at the 5mg dose? I am not looking for success stories per say rather stories that the medicine at least worked. If this round does not produce its back to sitting down with the doc and deciding what we want to do. DH is still very unsure if he wants us to take the IVF route. Hence why we are trying the meds. We did try clomid before but it didn't work.

Re: back at it again

  • @mackenzie07 see if your re will do an extended protocol, do the 5mg the normal amount of days and then add in 2 days of 7.5mg. It seems to help those non responders get some follies. Also what is your dx?

  • @ale9687 I have PCOS with insulin resistance. I knew I always had PCOS since I started my cycle. Problems came up immediately. We have been trying now for two years. I have seen two different RE's and I love the girl I have now. I will have to as about doing the extended version. I just want to be able to create a follicle. Just one. And if i don't get pregnant, I will be happy that the medicine just worked.

  • Hi there ! I have pcos as well . Has your doctor mentioned adding injectable medications to your protocol ? My doctor told me right off the bat he didn't think letrozole alone would work for my problem . So, for my medicated cycles I was on letrozole and gonal f . I produced at least 2 muture follicles eah time and ovulated with a trigger shot . If you haven't tried other medication protocols yet I would say you don't have to worry about doing IVF yet especially if it's not feasible financially . Other options are a lot cheaper .

  • @mskeenan she did mention it but does not feel that we are to that point yet. However if I do not respond to this medicine this time i may ask her for it anyways. The first RE I seen did one round of Clomid, refused to let me try the letrozole and told me the only safe way for me to have a child was ivf.

  • Welcome back. FWIW, 2.5 mg of letrozole is really designed to only activate a single follicle. So, no follie growth on a single tab of letrozole doesn't really mean much. It could have just been a bad/off month. You should have better luck with Metformin too. (I will say I consistently had 2 follies on moderate doses of Clomid and only ever 1 follie on high doses of letrozole - all in the same year of treatment.) Good luck with your u/s!
