We will name baby at the hospital after we meet him

Last time we bickered for nine months about names. When I had DD2 in the hospital we both looked at each other and said she is nothing on our list and she came home with a name we have never discussed that we both love.

Anyone else not pick their name yet?? Reason why?

I'm curious because it feels like we are the only ones who wait until the baby's born. FFFC I totally stalk the birth announcement threads for inspiration

We have narrowed it down to two first names. Not sure about middle names but we will prob use a family name there. But we won't fully disclose or probably come

We have some options. We may have settled on a boy name last night but it's not definite and we don't have our girl name set (we're team green). For DS we had two boy options and no girl names until we got to the hospital. Then DH thought of a girl name.

We do hope to have name choices before the kid gets here.

Last time we knew the sex and the name was picked immediately. We were 100% and nothing changed. This time we are team green and go through spurts of discussing it. My choices remain relatively consistent, but as soon as I warm to a name my bf suggested he gives me something out of left field. It's a process and I keep telling him plenty of people don't know until they meet their baby. Wish us luck, haha.

We have two names we really like and are leaning towards one, but we're going to make the final decision after he is born. I love both of the names, so it's hard to commit!!

We aren't set on anything. Having twins and team green makes it a bit more challenging. We have a list but I need to see the babies first before I name them.

Team green, so no name could really be out there but we also don't have names picked out anyway. We have only one or 2 names that we like for girls, and no boy names yet!!

@slycat my thoughts exactly. Dd2 didn't even have a name the first 24 hours and it drove our family is nuts. It wasn't a secret we literally hadn't decided!

We can't agree on anything. The one name we do like, we don't love and I am still hesitant about. It will probably take until she is born to name her.

We don't have a name. I would like to, as it feels unnatural to me to just call her "baby girl". But we just can't agree. I am actually going next to the Baby Name board for inspiration/advice.

We didn't pick a name with Dd until 12+ hours after birth.
This time we picked a name but have 2-3 back up names.

Team green and I think we have first names picked out. We definitely don't have middle names picked though. We haven't officially agreed on the first names or actually said it, but when we discuss names, we talk about what middle names go with the names that we like. We go through spurts of discussing names. It's really hard to decide on a name that your child will go by for its entire life!

We still havent picked a name either. With DS we had a name picked and was ready for his arrival. Im having trouble finding the perfect name for LO, I dont know if its harder for me to pick a girls name or what but I agree @mamaKSquared "It's really hard to decide on a name that your child will go by for its entire life!" Hoping to have a name before LO arrives.

No name here. With DD, we started looking and had a name picked within a week of finding out she was a girl. This time, we are having a boy and nothing is standing out like it did with DD. We have a short list that keeps getting revised, but we just aren't in love with anything yet. We may end up discussing up until he's born.

For me, boy names were a lot harder than girl names. I found my first ds's name in a celebrity magazine lol. He is Brody. This time, it was almost completely up to dh. The only stipulation I had was that I cannot hate the name. We have gotten as many negative comments as positive but we like it and are sticking with it. LO will be Nixon. No, not after the president. It literally means "Son of Nick" which Nick is dh's name. If there is a next time, I will not tell anyone the name until after baby is born and named already just like @texasmama2014 says!

We don't have a name 100% picked out but we have 2 that are the top contenders. I am partial to one but the other one honors a deceased family member (a common practice for Jewish babies) so we're torn. And we're open to a random surprise name being thrown into the mix towards the end. Bottom line, we're not naming her officially until we see her.

I am so glad to see we aren't the only ones! I'm pregnant at the same time as 3 of my best friends, and they all had their names picked out and announced when they announced their pregnancies! DH and I waited until DD arrived to announce her name, and we'll do the same with DS this time (though we don't have the name settled yet). It's funny to me how in some social circles, it's completely common to keep the name quiet until birth, but in others, everyone wonders why we haven't announced a name. Don't worry friends, monogramming really can be done after the baby arrives!

Ugh. We are still struggling even though we have two options we both like. But we just like the options. Not love. Nothing feels as magical or perfect or special like the other two kids. Any STM+ having similar issues?

Yes @ThisisNumber3! We had DS's name picked out before we were even married. I have a list of names for DD that I like, but DH hates them. The one name he hasn't said no to is one we both like, but not love. It's so hard!!

Feel exactly the same @ThisisNumber3 I LOVE DD's name so much and I loved it when I was pregnant with her. We had two names picked out, but I knew that we would always go with the name she ended up with. This time around, we have a list of 5 names and I just don't feel the same about them. DH and I have had a hard time agreeing on a name for this baby boy. We seemed to have a similar style when we were thinking of girl names, but our styles just don't match up on boy names.

@telicious2 @PeachGal23 @LWC1112 - Thanks ladies! Glad to know I'm not alone. We were like 99% sure on my daughter, and the morning of the induction we had to finalize the middle name for my son and again verified it upon birth.

This time we are stuck with Cora (probably Cora Leigh) and Brooke (I think it would be Brooke Ellen). I just dont know that I love either but maybe I"m over thinking it and she will "fit" one or the other once she's born. Or maybe we should have a longer list of options.

@ThisisNumber3 Yup, we loved DD's name immediately when we saw it and never wavered. With DS now, it's such a different experience because I feel like I'm trying to convince myself one of these names will work.

Fwiw, I love Cora! DH vetoed it before we even started seriously looking for names for DD, so it was never on our official list, but I've always thought it was such a great name, it's cute for a kid, but sophisticated for an adult too.

We have a good short list for our boy. It took me reading through a baby name book and having DH say yes, no, or middle name only. I got veto power. Then we went through that list again last month and narrowed it down. We have lots of options (15+ first names) though we're actually probably going with one of two. Four family names are hanging out for probable middle name. But until we meet him, I can't name him. We were actually totally prepped with three girl names, but even before the US, I had been stressing about boy names!

How is everyone feeling about names now that we are getting closer? Im getting really cold feet about our two top names. I really just dont know that either of us really really really love either one. I'm spending some time at work going to the drawing boards again. Looking for a girls name thats shorter (4-8 letters, 1-2 syllables) spunky but still simple.

We are still on the fence with names and it really does feel like we are just trying to make one work. There isn't one that I am in love with. I'm hoping something changes in the next few weeks or we will be really confused in the hospital. We both loved DD's name, but have had such a hard time with boy names.

@ThisisNumber3 Not sure if you want suggestions, but I'm in love Wren for a girl. It feels solid but still feminine to me. Common enough to not be weird but not too trendy (yet). Our second choice for a girl name was Carys.

We're having a boy and won't get to use either one so I thought I'd throw them out there since they fit your letters/syllables preference. Good luck!

We don't have names yet. We're team green so we need a girl and boy name. I think we have two top contenders for a girl and maaaaaybe one name for a boy but nothing is decided. And we haven't fallen in love with any name yet.

Looks like we'll be choosing the name while I'm in labor again!

@Mfuller76 - Thanks! I'm going to start another list to discuss with DH. The last time we talked was over memorial day so we've both had some time to look at lists with fresh eyes now. I may start a new thread for more suggestions but I will add Wren!

I'm so glad to see that there are other folks on here that don't know yet. We're due August 4th and can't quite pin a name down, which is making me a little nervous! Can I ask for your advice?

I'd really like to use my maiden name for our child (it is kind of gender neutral) because my father was the only son out of 7 kids and my brother's wife already has kids from another marriage and is not having any more kids. I really don't want the name to be lost from our family lineage forever. However, we are having a boy and I really like the name for a girl.

Do we hold out the name in hopes that we have a girl? That seems wildly over confident to me... there's no guarantee that we'll have another child, much less know the sex! Do we use it as a middle name for this boy (and then potentially as a first name for potential girl?!)? Do we use it as a first name for this boy even though I don't love it as a first name for a boy?

DH has a first name for a boy that he really loves, so I'd love to be able to give him that.

I feel so torn! Thanks and I apologize if this is the wrong board on which to ask for help with this!!

@ThisisNumber3 I would suggest considering Elle. Dd2 is named Ella and we call her Elle half of the time which I think is simple/feminine.

We are still undecided on a name. Dh and kids like Dean. Ive been leaning s lot towards Shane but lately have been attracted to Thomas/Tommy as a nn. So... Yeah we're still pretty much nowhere.

@entropicallyfavored If you don't love it as a boy's name, and your hubby has a boy name he likes that you like too, I'd go with your hubby's pick.

That being said, my cousin is naming her boy her mom's maiden name (which is my maiden name) as a tribute to her, which I think is really sweet, especially since we only have 2 boys in the family with that last name and it doesn't look like either will have children. All of us girl cousins took our husband's last names, so it is nice to keep it going.

We don't have a name yet. I am extremely picky about names and nothing seems quite right. I refuse to go with a top 100 name since it seems like every little girl I know has a name within that range. I am sure dd will be the only one in school with her name so I am leaning toward doing the same thing with the little one.
