I wore my 2nd baby from about 5 months on and got into wrapping and Tulas. This will be my first newborn that I get to wear and I can't wait! I have a ring sling (just bought a new Tula "Iris" ring sling today) and two short wraps (Pavo is my favorite!). I also have a standard Tula but I probably won't use it until he is ready to be worn without the insert. I don't have an infant insert and I don't really want to mess with getting one since the ring sling is just as quick and easy for me.
With my first baby I loved the K'tan. So much easier than the Moby. And I also had an Ergo. I've since sold both of those though since the K'tan can only be used until about 15 lbs. and the back panel on the Ergo is pretty short compared to a Tula so the standard size lasts a lot longer. But if you are thinking of trying out baby wearing for the newborn stage I would totally recommend the K'tan. Super easy to use and inexpensive!

@KimmySchmidt it feels like they come out with new patterns every month. Tula will come out with certain prints and then retailers will have exclusive ones as well. It's kind of crazy. I would just pick one you love and if you like something else later on you can always sell the other. Tulas hold their value well and you can sell them for pretty much the price you've paid (or more in some cases).

So I was watching The Baby Guy's live feed on fb last night and he was talking about Target carrying Tula and how some people are mad because they paid $300-$400 for their Tula and now they'll be sold at Target for $150 (I think). I saw one commenter say they paid $700 for theirs...no joke. What is the deal with the crazy prices? I have not owned a carrier yet, although I am interested. That just really peaked my interest.
The Tula website has plenty of in-stock carriers for the $150 price. Not just Target. Target only carries 4 prints and don't have any in toddler size. I don't understand why people are upset about those 4 canvas carriers being sold at target. The wrap conversion Tulas are the ones that are sold at high market value and those can't be bought at Target.

I can ask this on the babywearing Facebook groups as well but I'm sure of you ladies have input too. Did anyone find it difficult to Tula a newborn/infant?
@mom2adoodle I personally haven't used the Tula with a newborn but I have seen people on the Tula Love FB group complain about the insert while others seem to have no issue. I don't plan to use my Tula right away because it feels too bulky with the insert and with such a tiny baby (personal preference) so I like using a ring sling. But if you prefer a soft-structured carrier, I was talking with some ladies in a FB group recently and several of them recommended the Beco Gemini because you can carry a newborn without an insert.

So is it possible to breastfeed in any of the wraps/carriers?
I already have an ergo and a moby wrap, but neither got much use with DD. Since I plan to baby wear more often this time around, I wonder if I should invest in a Tula or a ring sling, or just stick with what I already have.
@TheTamedShrew- I managed to breastfeed DS in the Moby wrap a few times. It was after he started getting some neck control and nursing was well established.
I haven't done it myself (yet!) but I have seen people successfully nurse in wraps, ringslings, and soft-structured carriers. There are a lot of videos out there and folks at a meeting can help too.
Does anyone want to go into more detail about dad's wearing baby? H for years has loved the idea and points out every dad he sees babywearing, he is probably more excited than I am. I guess my question would be should we different ones or multiple ones or does sharing the same one work well? He is 5'10, skinny, and not broad and I am 5'3 and big chested. I'm not sure how into wraps he would be, like he wouldn't say never but I'm not sure.
I used a Moby just around the house for when I wanted baby to nap on me but still wanted to be moving about - it was pretty easy to use after a few tries, but I didn't feel like it gave a ton of support, so we didn't use it out in public (asides from maybe walks around the neighborhood when I could secure him in the house before leaving).
We used our Ergo a LOT. It was fantastic for grocery shopping especially, I could bounce around and keep him moving and happy and fill up my cart (a carseat takes up the entire basket of the cart.. making grocery shopping solo nearly impossible with a little baby). We used the Ergo at baseball games, I could sit in my seat and walk the stadium without taking him out.. and when I did take him in and out it was super easy.
My husband also used the Ergo a good deal, grocery shopping, snowshoeing, apple picking, etc etc. He found it to be very easy to use and comfortable.
@Jhems776 - The Ergo was really easily adaptable between my husband and I. I am 5'4" with a medium frame, and husband is 5'11" and broad. You adjust the straps every time you put it on and off so it was no hassle for us to alternate between using it.
We don't babywear hardly at all any more now that little man wants to run around as much as he can, except when we hike. We have a Kelty hiking pack which is amazing, but doesn't quite fit the discussion in this thread (it's for 6 months+). Let me know if anyone wants info on hiking pack experience as well!
@Jhems776 I think it depends on the carrier and the size difference. I'm 5'1" slim and DH is 6'2" stocky so I'm sure we won't be able to share a carrier
I'm 5'4, petite with big boobs and my husband is 6'3 and giant (seriously, giant is the only way to describe him). We both were able to use the ergo comfortably. And as said, it's super easy to adjust.
@jhems776 and @AmMcc12 you can totally share with something like an ergo or Tula. You just have to adjust the straps which can be slightly annoying once you find your sweet spot but it's really not that big of a deal.

You guys should be able to use the same structured carrier as long as you both agree on what's most comfortable. Your chest size should not be an issue. They're very adjustable. And the wrap carriers contain so much fabric that anyone of any size can make it work. I've never heard of anyone saying they didn't like a particular carrier because of their height. (Mostly it just seems to be personal comfort and ease of use)
My husband had no interest in learning the Moby wrap. I think I got it on him 1 time and he found it to be awkward. But we used the same soft structured carrier (https://www.actionbabycarriers.com) and had no problem adjusting it for each of us to use. A male friend tried it once to see if he liked it and found that he would need longer straps since he is tall and larger framed.
DH really wants to use a ring sling (I think his mom wearing his younger brother helped with this). We are looking at the Tula RS. Dose anyone know if a s/m would fit a larger man or if we should go with the large and when I use it just have extra fabric
I like a long tail, @AmMcc12 , so I'd go with a large. I'd say get it early and work on "breaking it in" too by sitting on it, braiding it (Google "wrap braiding") and such. The softer it gets, the easier it will be to use!
@AmMcc12 I would go with the large if you both plan to use the ring sling. If the tail is too long for you, you can wrap it around the rings to make it shorter.

I'm reviving this old thread in hopes of gwtting advice on a purchase... I have an Ergo now but wanted another carrier that was lighter-weight and that would be better at the infant stage. Several people suggested a ring sling. At the advice of @Sporty1216 I joined Babywearing on a Budget on FB and have been "observing" posts for a month or so..
It's so hard! I had no idea there were so many brands and sizes and fabric types and don't know what it all means, haha. Therefore I have been hesitant to purchase anything...
But I did see a post for a Linen Sweet Pea Ring Sling w Pocket...75" long...$75 incl shipping. What do you ladies think? Good price? Brand? Fabric? I'm 5'11...will 75" be long enough? TIA!
Cross-posting this to randoms...gotta move fast on these things!
@JennM205 I've heard good things about Sweet Pea but don't have any personal experience. Have you checked out Sleeping Baby Productions? I have no experience with her slings but have many friends who RAVE about them. That way you can buy a brand new RS and it's slightly cheaper. She also has a sizing guide on her website.
@PSUBecky23 Paying more for used than for new was definitely something I was trying to avoid, so I appreciate the info! One question - have you ever heard anyone say it's actually better to buy used with ring slings so that they're "broken in"? Not sure that applies to all ring slings or perhaps just different types of fabrics...? That was one reason I was educating myself using the resale sources vs. investigating new. But after looking at the website you provided and realizing I can have one custom made just for me...makes me tempted to go new!!
@JennM205--just seeing this! Sorry! Linen is great, but can get "diggy" with an older/heavier babe. Everything I know about Jan ar sleeping baby productions indicates she is wonderful! Used/broken in is definitely easier to use, but if you go new, you can do a lot to start breaking in your sling. Just search YouTube for "wrap braiding" or you can pull it through the rings, sleep with it, sit on it, etc. I just got a used Pavo ring sling and it is dreamy--soft and pliable already and I loved the look. It is 100% cotton. Let us know what you choose!
I'll be ordering a Solly Baby wrap, since luckily people have been purchasing things off our registry, so I can splurge a tad. I don't expect to be able to wear it for too long, and LO will be big enough to fit the Ergo360...I hope. Other than that, I have no idea what I'm doing. FTM.
I got a solly wrap this time too! I've heard they are only comfy until baby is about 15lbs, but they are supposed to be great for little squishes. If you end up liking it, you can always move to a woven wrap which will give you lots of support and way more options for a bigger baby and even a toddler.
I have a Tula ring sling. I just bought it and I'm so excited to try it. I'm been messing around with DDs dolls to try to get the hang of it. I also have a Boba 3G I will use when the baby gets bigger.
I'm heading to a local babywearing meeting to try on some different options and see what I feel most comfortable with. I tend to like the look of the Tula but I think that's just because you can get it in so many varieties. I want to get something that works comfortably with my bigger chest (they were big before the baby anyway), that I can use from newborn up, wear on the front and/or back, and face inward or outward. It's so overwhelming with so many options out there!
@SarahDarah333 How was it going to the baby wearing meeting? I've been debating whether or not to attend a meeting now before baby so that I can have some carriers already bought or after her birth so I can have her there with me to try everything on. I'd like to hear from someone that went without a baby.
(I could take my first, but wearing an almost 2 year old is going to be much different than wearing a newborn.)
@camichael84 my local group has a fake baby that weighs as much as an average 4 month old and is creepily lifelike, that you can try the carriers out with. I'm not sure if that is the norm though...
