Quick Questions (June)

Re: Quick Questions (June)

  • I've had luck with soaking in OxyClean. We got a lot of hand-me downs from BIL and there were a lot of stains (I don't think they do much stain-removal wise - their kids always have stained clothes). I never used OxyClean much before DS, but it became my go-to for all baby related stains. It pretty much always worked on fresh stains and worked some of time on the old stains (granted many we had were very well set in).

Guys. My belly is BURNING! It's only skin deep, so I'm pretty sure it's just stretching and growing really quickly, nothing really concerning. I keep applying regular lotion, but to no avail - 5 min later it burns again. Any suggestions on how to find some relief? Any specific creams or ointments I should try? FWIW, I'm not worried about lingering stretchmarks or anything, just hoping to not have to feel like my tummy is on fire all day long.
  • @PoodleDoodleOoo- I'd probably try something that's more of a cream versus a lotion, so a bit thicker. Maybe something with an oatmeal base?

I had the same problem, I switched to Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula, Skin Therapy Oil, it has helped immensely!

  • @AMT1107 - does that stain clothing or anything?
  • @PoodleDoodleOoo  I haven't had a problem with it staining clothing, it doesn't dry but it does seem to absorb pretty quickly - if that makes any sense

Yes to the Palmer's, either the oil or the cocao butter. I had the same thing a couple of weeks ago and that stuff helped so much. I put the oil on when I get out of the shower, not just on the belly, but boobs, legs, butt, everywhereeee. It sinks right in and my skin has never been so soft.

  • @PoodleDoodleOoo my belly and boobs itch SO bad this time. I'm fidgeting all day. Palmers definitely works, I just have to keep a bottle in my desk at work to reapply halfway through the day.
  • Thanks for the stain removal advice. I think I'll try oxiclean and drying in the sun if it doesn't rain all weekend.
  • I'll definitely pick up some Palmers on the way home!

I need opinions on putting the crib by a heat/AC vent. The vent is in the wall and a lot of heat comes out when it's on. The side of the crib would be against that wall, and the heat would go under the crib but might stay there and heat the mattress up? I don't want him to be too hot!

  • @RG1 growing  up my bed was right under the hear vent - i do not recommend if you can avoid it!
  • I have a question that's definitely TMI so quit reading if you're squeamish.

I have never had a hemorrhoid prior to having DS. To make up for this, I got several while pushing. I figured they'd to away on their own but it seems like they have just stayed there and are either super small or swell up from time to time depending in BMs and pressure. Its been almost 2 years. What are you supposed to do about this? Do they go away eventually or is it something I should mention to my OB? Either way I'm sure giving birth in a few months won't help, so I won't try anything to fix it until I'm PP.
  • Mention it to your OB, you might be a candidate to have them surgically removed after you heal from birth.  The only thing "to do" is comfort measures like witch hazel, high fiber, water intake, etc.
  • STM  - Gliders:  Anyone have an amazing glider they recommend that won't break the bank?  We've put one on our registry but it's close to $500!!!  I'm hoping there's some magical one out there that's more cost effective and doesn't make me side-eye myself.

I bought a recliner for this baby, I'm so
excited! You can still rock slightly reclined, and I can nurse while we lay down. It was like $250 I think. Not a beautiful chair, but she's beautiful in my eyes.
  • @RG1- my son's nursery is almost completely lined by baseboard heaters, so we eventually moved his crib to a wall that would not have been my first choice. In the winter it was just way too dry to have him right up against the heater even though it was water-heat, so shouldn't be terrible drying. His little lower lip would split all the time from the dryness at night and with colds it was too much. I'd give some space between baby and a heat source if you can.  My son also sleeps really hot... requiring less layers than I see most other kiddos using, direct heat was too much.

  • Have you looked on Craigslist @LakeR2014 ? I got one that is in pretty good shape that came with a glider ottoman for like $40. :)
  • My baby is still breech, as he gets bigger, will I feel a definite specific movement when he flips down so will is sort of just happen slowly? Im not worried since I still have time, mostly I'm just curious
  • @LakeR2014 I second craigslist or local mommy swap groups on Facebook.
  • Thanks to everyone who recommended Palmer's - I gave it a try and it worked wonders!

I have it in my desk drawer and shamelessly take it to the bathroom with me for a mid-day slathering haha
  • @MrsVoorhees - i might buy a second bottle just for that purpose :)
  • @marikkita12 I don't know if things are different for me, having twins, but when one of mine flipped (he went from feet down to head down) I definitely felt it.  It was like an intense burning, stretching sensation mixed with a severe cramp.  I felt it mid-uterus.  There was no mistaking what was happening.

But I have less room for him to move in there and he's using his brother to brace against when he turns, so maybe the sensation is more intense.

He did flip once before (going from head down to feet down), about a month earlier (so maybe 23/24 weeks) and I didn't really feel anything other than a slight wiggle, so I'm sure a lot of it has to do with baby size and space constraints and even positioning during the turn.

Yes! And considering how cheap they are, they're nice to have when you don't feel like setting up the electric pump. I often got more from my manual than my electric.

  • Shiva14  dealing with this too. If I notice one pop up, I use wet wipes, tucks pads, and cream for about a week and this takes care of it. I notice if I just do it for three days or so they get smaller but don't disappear.

@AnnaS930 thanks for the feedback. We decided on a different placement away from the heater cause there's a heater beside my side of the bed and it's always soooo dry when the heat is on. I don't want to put him through that

awesome, im really encouraged to read that! @PSUBecky23 , is there a brand you'd recommend or are they pretty standard?
  • My friend who is a lactation consultant posted this link which I found really interesting. If anything, it's a good skill to have in case we are ever out and about without a pump.

I had the Medela hand pump and liked it.  I actually got a better letdown and more milk with it over my double electric and opted to use the manual pretty often.

I hated it. My hand would cramp up. Have you checked with your insurance company. They might cover an electric one
  • I love the hand pump! I also always got more milk from it and it's nice to just be sitting wherever you want and not have to hook the pump up to an outlet. There is a simplicity about using the hand pump sometimes that is really nice!

Affordable care act was supposed to make this a requirement. Not sure if it's for specific "packages" or not.

  • Agreed, the Affordable Care Act might have you covered. Call your insurance, or check out a website that sells breast pumps and they should be able to tell you what you're eligible for. www.yummymummystore.com is one, aeroflowmomandbaby.com is another (I used 2 different sites with each of my pregnancies and found both to have excellent customer service).

Our insurance was grandfathered in, and doesn't have to cover a pump by the affordable care act, BUT, aeroflow got a pump paid for by insurance for a coworker who also has our company insurance. I'm fairly certain they used a different CPT code than what they were actually billing for, because she not only got the pump, she got all the accessories, extra flanges, and the cooler bag paid for as well and our insurance definitely didn't cover that.
  • Also, the ACA doesn't specify which pump insurers are required to cover. Many will only cover cheaper manual pumps :/
