Boy names too matchy?

edited June 2016 in Baby Names
I have a son Levi and I love the name Luke as a possible boy's name for my third. Are Luke and Levi too matchy sounding? I didn't want to go with two L names but Luke just keeps coming up as a favorite. I have a daughter Gianna (Gia) as well, so maybe that would break up the L sounds? What are your thoughts?

Re: Boy names too matchy?

  • I wouldn't do it. Two four letter L names is just too matchy for me

  • I think using the same first letter is totally ok! It's not like you're naming them Luke and Duke... or Luke and Lucas (eek!) I think they are different enough that it will be no problem, and I LOVE Levi! Good luck, mama!
  • I don't think they are too matchy. I love both names, and I think they sound perfectly fine together.

  • I personally prefer to avoid reusing first initials. Perhaps Lucas? Just so they aren't both 4 letters?
  • I don't mind Levi, Gianna, and Luke together.
  • Reusing first name initials isn't my personal style, but I don't think the names are too matchy. The different vowels paired with the L and different end sounds separate them.
  • Too matchy for me.
  • I think its fine. All great names.

  • Not matchy at all to me. Rhyming names are matchy. Having the same first letter doesn't bother me a bit.
  • I think it's fine.

Fine. Especially since your daughter isn't a 4 letter L name.  They're a little matchy but I wouldn't think twice about it.
  • I don't think they are too matchy BUT if I was the one named Luke I'd be bummed because my siblings have kick-ass name Levi and Gianna and Luke is a little boring compared to them. I do like the name Luke however.

This was my thought as well, Luke seems a little bland compared to Levi and Gianna, but it's still a nice, solid name. I do think Luke and Levi are a bit matchy, in that they are both 4-letter biblical L names, but I don't think it's a huge deal.

Btw, my daughter is Gianna too! It's a great name! :)
