TTC After a Loss

TTCAL Check in : Week of June 6th

Re: TTCAL Check in : Week of June 6th

  • @catiecatpI have no real insight to offer, but I would be hesitant to commit without a contract, for all the reasons you mentioned + this is the first offer, right? Do you have more places you've applied? Any word from anyone else?? I would tell them that moving without expenses paid and without a contract are deal breakers. (But, that's easy for me to say... perhaps not so easy to actually do!)

  • @catiecatp that sounds so stressful and I was really hoping you'd get a way better offer and make it an easy decision for you :(

This talk about jobs and benefits just made me remember a convo with DH. His work has him out of town a lot in the summers and he's been getting frustrated with it and has said he doesn't want to be away so much when he have a LO (last summer was a lot of 10 days away, 4 days home), and it's really sweet that he is saying that. But he's considering getting a new job because of it and said "we'll decide in September", which is when we're supposed to start TTC  :# He has great benefits that we might need and now I'm just nervous he'll put off TTC if he decides to try to get a new job :( I really hope not, but can't say I'm not a bit more concerned now :/
  • Oh @catiecatp that's so frustrating! I'm so bummed for you as everything sounded so promising when you were there! I hope you and DH can find a solution that works best for the both of you, whether that means accepting the position or not. I know you are already stressed so this just absolutely pisses me off that this has happened to you. As PP have mentioned, I would entertain other offers or look into alternatives if possible. As my DH says, EVERYTHING is negotiable of an employer really wants you. Maybe they aren't willing to work with you unless you decline the offer based on your deal breakers.
  • Ugh, @catiecatp, so frustrating. I think you are right to be worried about the whole health insurance issue. It's a big adjustment from the Canadian system, which I'm sure is a financial shock. Our family plan costs us about $700 a month and that's with DH's institution paying over 75% of the total. It's great insurance, but it still stings. Anyways, I would hate for you to be here and be uninsured for any period of time, especially if you are pregnant and I have a feeling temporary insurance could be pretty expensive.

As far as the not honoring your past teaching experience, that stinks. Is this a tenure track position? I agree with PP I would be scared of moving at all, never mind to a new country without having a contract signed. It seems a little unreasonable to expect anyone to do that.

Good luck, I'm sure it's super stressful.
  • 1. I am back here after a loss this week at 5w5d. Previous loss was 6w1d in August. However, I just received a lab back discovering that during my normal cycle (non-pregnant) I have low progesterone and we are hopeful for next time. I will begin progesterone supplementation next cycle.

    2. Benched for 2 cycles.

    3. My birthday is next week and my husband wants to get me a puppy to cheer me up, but I honestly don't want the work of an animal haha...

    4. Quinoa salad with black beans, hot sauce, cilantro and red onions.
  • Oh goodness@catiecatp, how stressful! This is a big move and they should be trying to woo you. It looks like things are moving ahead, so I wish you luck! Insurance here definitely is a mess. We actually have a very "good" plan from my DH's job, but things vary so much. Is there anything about moving that will offset this cost? Lower COL, maybe?

And fingers crossed for a BFP before you venture out!
  • @silentP - there will be a lower cost of living - and I'll have job security once I get the contract, which I don't have here. Right now I'm an adjunct so my income varies from semester to semester because I'm paid by the course and I teach between 2-4 courses per semester lately.

In other news I'm either 15 or 16 DPO and terrified to test. Were we not just saying that if it would line up with cool things it wouldn't happen... yeah my news that came about 23 hours ago seems to have made karma think this is a most excellent month. And don't get me wrong, it still is. But DH will be away for 2-4 weeks at least and I'll likely be alone for the original EDD and...

I'm feeling overwhelmed. Testing plans were to test tomorrow - I may wait another day or two.

And on the job, it sounds like you are doing all the necessary homework and you definitely have some safe guards in place. I am excited for you! Congratulations!

  • @fivetimesnoluck - the issue with my typical cycles is that I think I have a slow rise and FF hasn't caught that in the past - I think my LP is usually 13-14 days, but I don't have much reliable data for that. That means I think I'm likely 1-2 days late as of today. But I'm having a bit of cramping (very light relative to the past 3-4 cycles though) and so I'm trying to not get my hopes up.

Your patience is astonishing @catiecatp !!! I'm so rooting for you :) (And as per your posts in TWW, I was a psych minor by accident because I took so many of the courses that when I finally met with my advisor he said I could declare it as my minor lol I loved it!)

DH is home today and he said he has good news but will tell me in person. I feel like such a nutbar because the only news I feel I'll be excited about is if he's suddenly ready to TTC immediately  :D I feel like anything other than that will be disappointing and yet I know it won't be that lol Argghhh I wish I could get it off my brain sometimes!!!! That said, I really can't think of what it could be that he wouldn't want to tell me on the phone and then he qualified it as "not THAT good" :/ Not fair!
  • I've missed you, @reneeannemm! I send you big hugs from coastal Georgia! xo

  • @catiecatp I think @chloe97 already said it, but I will second, there is a lot of mild cramping in early pregnancy. Stretching the ol' uterus! :D

  • Dear @catiecatp do you temp?? 18 high temps will tell you for sure.
    Fingers crossed for you!

I feel your pain about the job situation.
I am in academia too but just as adjunct professor and assistant researcher. So really struggling with low paying job thad I really enjoy to do. I have to work part time in another area of architecture that pays better but is not as rewarding for me.

I hope everything works out for the best for you and your family.

  • @yolandamunoz - I've got 15 days of high temps (though only 14 measurements). So things are looking good but not completely sure yet.

I'm currently an adjunct - and there just haven't been jobs that I want in Canada. I strongly prefer teaching over research - it makes me happy, it is my passion. So I think we'll go but the situation is less ideal than we were hoping.

  • I can't believe I missed weekly checkin, and now that I read it it involved food! My favorite, especially this Oreo cake business..my god!

@catiecatp first I'm very sorry about your difficult job situation, how annoying! I also made a cross country move to take a job at a college (as a coach, not a teacher) and didn't get any relocation either. So ridiculous! But more importantly how in the world do you resist the urge....I feel like I need to POAS for you and I'm only on CD6! Lol

AFM..I'm hoping that im WTO. Temping for the first time this month so we'll see!!

Raves - weighed in this morning, officially down 4.2 lbs since 6/1! Woohoo!

Recipe - I seriously love everything...baking, crockpots, grilling. Hmm...most frequently requested by my team would have to be chili, pulled pork and pumpkin chocolate chip cookies :D

@SoonToBeMommaHowe - what do you coach? I resist because I have no tests in the house and I think that a BFN would be devastating (I've never had one because I've only ever tested on 18DPO...). I'm planning to buy a test today and test tomorrow...

EDIT: and congrats on the weight loss I know you've been working hard at that

  • Hey @catiecatp! I've been looking for your update on TWW all morning! I guess I'll have to check in tomorrow :D I know what you mean about seeing BFNs...it sucks so much, even if you're sorta expecting it. I've got everything crossed that tomorrow will be a good day for you!

I coached college basketball for the past three years (moved from FL to ME) until DH and I decided a 1-2 year retirement was a good idea for this TTC business. And thank you for the congrats..my wedding weight was 137, I have 14 lbs left to get there! That's the by-September-goal!! Or a BFP and weight gain before then would be just fine with me as well

Status: Finally WTO. AF showed this morning after a 39 day cycle, which explains why I haven't been in the mood to participate here this week. I feel so much better now that I'm back in business again.

Rave: CD 1! I'm finally ready to start trying again! It feels like I've turned the page on this chapter and am ready for a fresh start. I'm already getting way ahead of myself, too. I checked what my due date would be if I were to get KU (St. Patrick's Day). Not crazy at all. Nope.

Rant: WTF was going on with my cycle? I had a MMC in February, followed by a 45 day cycle, 25 day cycle, then 39 days. I started taking Spironolactone again in April for acne/skin issues, and I just read that it can mess with your period. I was on BC the first time I took it, so it never dawned on me. I stopped taking it Wednesday (much to the chagrin of my skin), but hopefully that was the culprit.

GTKY: I make a mean baked mac 'n cheese. It's 6 layers of elbow noodles, creamy white cheese sauce, and sharp cheddar, and I usually add grilled onions and diced tomatoes. It's the only thing I can really cook well.

@iceandsnowflakes29 good to know! It's funny, before I seriously considered having children, I always thought that when the time came, I would just stop preventing and see what happens. So not the case now that I'm living through it. I need a plan!

    @shae86

Okay. If you wanna hear crazy, I'll confess this:

Talk about planning. My last cycle I ttc (January), I had just started bullet Journaling (it's like a planner / journal combined) there's a cult following to it if you're not familiar Google it.

Anyway, I got so crazy I charted in FF but  then took extensive notes in my bullet journal  (everything from timing, moods, and my symptoms by dpo) I also recorded my betas and progesterone level. I wrote everything down.

I haven't done that this cycle but, maybe I should. Writing down what I thought were pregnancy symptoms kept the BSC at bay and got them out of my head.

Think Monica Gellar ' s "wedding book" but TTC version. I don't know if you're a FRIENDS fan?

ETA some of that info is also color coded with a 12 pack of my husband's sharpie highlighters.

Just count this as my Flame Free Friday confession.
  • Sounds like something I would do @iceandsnowflakes29 lol I said to my therapist that it's like I'm back in school and I'm doing everything I can to prepare for and study for an exam.
  • @rainbowturtles I did it because I'm a bad symptom spotter. So I told myself "okay, just write it down and then when you don't get pregnant you can look back next month and see that craving mcdonalds sweet tea at 7dpo does not mean you're KU"

Well after gaining 18 lbs with my 4.5 month twin pregnancy I gave up exercise (for an entire year) and picked up an outrageous ice cream habit

*definitely an emotional eater right here, sugar was my cure for bad days. And after a MC and 10 unsuccessful months TTC there have been a few too many bad days. But that is behind me now...time to get healthy, hit the gym and make a freakin baby! (Hopefully)

  • Seriously, why is Ikea baby bump central??!! Is it like some secret meeting place for pregnant ladies? I wish I had a bump :(

I'm so cranky and fatigued and annoyed with renos. Ikea plumbing isn't standard plumbing? Frustrating. Still don't have a sink and might have to use an ugly one, though I don't quite understand why since we're not covering the costs anyways but DH is planning it strangely so it's irritating lol

If only this crap distracted my brain from wanting to TTC but it really really doesn't  :s

@iceandsnowflakes29 ha! Yes, I'm a huge Friends fan. I just had a flashback to high school. I used to keep a journal of every single outfit I wore so that I would never wear the same thing twice in the same month. It was ridiculous, and I remember my sister discovering it one day and looking me in the eye, saying, "You. Are. Crazy."

I guess some things don't change. Believe it or not, I'm usually a type-B personality. I don't even want to find out the sex when I eventually get pregnant. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
