Lidding ears/ constricted ears

i noticed pretty early on that my daughters ears were a little different. It is very suddle but I'm not sure if it will become more prominent later on as her ears grow or not. Here is my dilemma. Pediatrician said she doesn't mind referring her to a specialist if they still look "off" when she is 4. However that would likely mean plastic surgery and anesthesia and 10k per ear since both are the same. But there is also a mold that can be worn for about 8 weeks while a baby that has shown great results. It is less than 1/2 the cost, but still pricey. 

Many main concern is bullies. And at special events when she will want her hair up. I know this is purely cosmetic and does not affect her hearing. 

Does anyone one have any experience with any ear deformities?  Did anyone have something similar that corrected itself?  Anyone else have anything similar w their LO?

    Our DS #2 has the same thing and we are debating what to do. With DS#1 they self corrected but our ped doesn't think DD #2's will self correct. I need to schedule the appt for a conflict but have been so consumed with his reflux it hadn't been priority.

    I feel ya on the reflux!  That is good to hear they corrected themselves. It is very slight in DD but I still worry about bullies. I was asking the opinion of a friend last night and she couldn't even tell, but I can. I guess I'm just being a critical mom (already

    My sister has this.  It was never corrected.  She's always been more comfortable wearing her hair down/covering her ears but it doesn't stop her from wearing it up for a special occasion.

    Both of my girls were born with "ruffly" outer edges on their ears. It was like they weren't fully formed and there was cartilige missing. L's were more noticeable than R's. Both have rounded out with time.

    Thanks @brenlo42  that was just what I wanted to hear!! Hers look much like DDs. Even at 3 months you can't tell from photos.  Here is what DDs look like now at almost 5 weeks. I guess fingers crossed they self correct as well as your LOs did

    I'm lurking from J16 and I had no idea this was even a thing! One of my sons ears looks only slightly wavy on the outside and I have thought it was the cutest thing. I even call it his crinkly ear haha he's almost 5 months now

    I also think they are adorable on her right now...but when I started thinking about when she is older that is when I started to get worried. However it is only slightly noticeable so maybe I'm just crazy.

    @seasidesweete I don't think you're crazy at all :) his has gotten far less noticeable since he was born early Jan so hopefully your little girls will do the same however if you think she would benefit from the mold and not waiting it out then you're prob right! You know what's best for her :) I do agree some things that are adorable now might not be so cute as they get older lol

    I know as new moms we want everything to be perfect..... but i honestly wouldnt do anything to her ears. Just let her little body develop and change and grow and i think you will be pleasantly surprised. U wont even notice it soon enough :)

    @seasidesweete we had an evaluation last week and we definitely need the mold on both ears. I received the call today that our insurance will cover it. The doctor said they would rather pay for the molds than surgery in a few years. They think he will only need the molds for 6 weeks. I'm more upset they have to shave the hair above his ear.

    @Goldsgirl9 I hope all goes well with the mold!  Keep us updated. We have our 2 month check up next week so I'm wondering if the dr will say anything then or continue to wait.

    @seasidesweete your window to get it done is limited. If your doctor doesn't mention it you should if you are interested. Doesn't brother little one and only takes 6-8 weeks. I'm so glad we did it.

    Yes, my good friend has been correcting ear deformities in newborns with ear molds for over a decade and is the best in NYC. The approach is non-surgical and harmless to the baby. After that window, there are other options, but may require surgery. Dr. Nick can give a free consultation. Insurance accepted.
