TTMA water intake

how much ya drinkin' these days?
Somedays I feel like I'm drinking like a fish (wait, do fish actually drink?) but when I really think about the ounces, it seems meager.
Maybe 60oz/day... Womp.

Anyway, how hydrated are you? Any tips/tricks for throwing back all the fluids?

Re: TTMA water intake

  • I have 2 16.9 oz water bottles up in my office with me. I try to drink both of them every day. Then I have a HUGE water bottle in my bedroom that I sip on periodically throughout the night when I get thirsty. I also have a glass of chocolate almond milk in the morning with breakfast (unless DH has drank it all...). I rarely drink anything other than those 2 things. The occasional Gatorade when I'm out in the sun, since I dehydrate so easily.

  • I love me some Gatorade but I'm nervous about so much sugar (already starting off this pregnancy 20lbs heavier than with DD -- ugh. )
Thankfully plain ice water is somewhat tolerable again ...
  • At work I was really good about my intake. I was drinking at least 3 25oz bottles a day plus at least 1 more bottle at home and 2 to 3 glasses of milk a day.

Now that I'm off for the summer I'm struggling a little. I pretty much have a cup that has a straw and lid that I refill anytime it reaches halfway and just keep drinking. And I still drink 2 to 3 glasses of milk a day plus a glass of juice.

It's really hard to drink enough but I figure I just keep trying and that's all I can do.

  • I'm struggling too. I used to be awesome at drinking water, then morning sickness hit & I was cautious about gulping too much at once. I drink a glass of lemonade daily to switch it up & ease nausea. Sometimes to help me drink more water, I mix this hydrate powder (basically Gatorade but natural sugar from fruit). It's hard! I need a better water bottle.

I try to drink two 40-oz Hydroflasks a day, but my midwife just told me to increase it to three, because we live in the desert! The struggle is real, especially because the excess peeing seems to have hit as of yesterday. Bathroom time all day every day.

ETA thanks for swallowing the entire second half of this post, Bump. Argh.

  • I have a 20 ounce bottle of work with me, and I aim to drink 4 of those per day. Then when I get home I usually have a 17 ounce bottle or so. I tend to be pretty bad about drinking water, but lately I've been so thirsty. Yesterday I drank probably 80 ounces at work then headed home. I work about 15 minutes from home and ended up stopping on the way home for water. Probably because it's getting super duper hot down here.

I usually make it to about 60oz but I'm pretty sure I should be drinking A LOT more :|

  • I bring 4 32oz bottles of water with lemon, 1 32oz bottle of half trop50 half water with benefiber, and a 32oz powerade zero to work every day. Then I drink at least another 32oz before bed and typically about 16oz overnight.

    I pee a lot.

  • Hmm...you girls make me think I should be paying a lot more attention to my onces. I have a big plastic cup on my desk. I drink about two a day, and that's about it. Wonder how much that really is...? Haha.
  • I drink 12 oz of water first thing in the morning when I take my medicine. I have a 32 oz water bottle with me ALL the time and my goal is to finish 1 by my lunch break, refill it and finish that before I leave work. I usually refill it twice in the evening after work so I probably drink about 120oz per day. I've always loved water, thankfully. I pee a lot. My trick to getting enough is to just always carry water with you and set little goals, like drinking a certain amount by a certain time... Sometimes that mental game helps!
  • In the beginning I was killing the water...but then I got a weird aversion to it. I can drink it with lemon, and that helps, but I've been having a bit more herbal tea and Diet Coke than I should. :/
  • I aim for at least 100 oz.  I have a Camelback bottle that I carry everywhere I go.  I try to drink 32 oz before coffee/breakfast and do another 3 during the day.  By nighttime I feel like I'm drowning - but that's the point I guess.

  • I'm somewhere in the 60-80 oz per day depending. Not as much as I probably should be drinking. :/

  • Some of you ladies are champs. 100+ ounces a day?!? I feel like that's probably where I should be, but am so not there. I've been doing naturally flavored seltzer water and adding a splash of lemonade to sweeten it up a bit... It makes me feel better than when I was drinking juice.
  • I've seen lots of things that say half your weight (in pounds) is how many Oz you should drink a day minimum. Idk how real that is...if I only drank 70 ounces I'd die.

It took me a long time to get to drink so much. Arizona summers and competitive running forced it and the habit stuck. I do drink about 32oz less in the winter though.

My water consumption definetely increased since living in Arizona. I get around 100 ounces in daily. I like plain water though, so always choose it over juice or something else.

When I was sick I wasn't getting much, but since then ice water through a straw is all I want. I'm back up to my regular amount now.

On a good day, 120-140 oz. On an off day, about half of that.
  • I'm impressed, ladies!  Not sure exactly how much water I'm drinking but it's not anywhere near that.  I need to step it up!

  • usually about 3 of my 24 oz Tervis cups of water per day, a 12 oz seltzer or two, and usually a glass or two of water at home. So... 100 and then some?

I tried to drink a gallon a day in the beginning, but it's hard! Some days are better than others. But I drink water and powerade, and that's all I really drink right now unless I have no other option. I was worried about the sugar in powerade, so I get the low calorie one.

ETA: I also noticed I can only drink water if it's iced cold. If it's room temp, I just can't drink it.

  • I really need to get better at this, but I have an aversion to plain water right now, even with lemon or cucumber or whatever. I drink plenty of fluids with green tea and milk and stuff, but water is not going too well.

  • @jenlynne0624 This is me right now. I never thought you could have an aversion to water. I love it! It's slowly getting better, but at least I'm getting plenty of fluids otherwise.

I think I get around 100 oz a day. I have a 16 oz cup that I take to work with me, and in my car...and I usually fill it up at least 4-5 times during my work day. And then at home I'll drink another 3-4 large glasses of water, plus I keep a glass of water on my bed side table at night that I usually finish by morning. Since I gave up coffee and alcohol, water is really all I drink. I also have to pee every 6 minutes -_-

  • i have no clue. but I will say the thing I've had to watch is not getting enough salts (electrolytes). I can't handle food with flavor except at lunch time which means I'm not getting much salt and just water can be a little too flushing. I've been drinking propel water, coconut water, and this resqwater thing that I got like 8 bottles free from a rep. This is it: https://www.resqwater.com/?gclid=CLbxrf7Om80CFYclgQodv8QPLg
If it's electrolytes that have me bogged down, I turn around really quickly with that.

By "I got 8 bottles free from a rep" I actually mean DH and I were down at a festival and they had a booth. They were handing out bottles on both sides and DH and I made a few passes on each side because we are frugal weasels.

  • For anyone who wants Gatorade but doesn't want all the sugar/other stuff in it - I started making a homemade version last year and I'm really into it. I basically just make a concentrate of cider vinegar and maple syrup (enough syrup to cut the vinegar taste), add some citrus juice and salt, and then add the concentrate to my water bottle in whatever amount tastes good. It's not exactly like Gatorade, but it does the trick for me.
  • @sourlemon - I think the 1/2 body weight guideline is for non-pregnant people.  I always thought it was supposed to be increased with pregnancy so I upped mine 30+ ounces.

  • That's true. I just figured for those who aren't getting even that that it's a good starting point since that's the minimum recommend for normal (non pregnant) people.

  • @mysteryship make sure you are using the correct kind of salt. Regular table salt or ionized salt aren't the recommended ones for 'adding electrolytes'.

  • I've been so bad with my water.  There are probably days where I've only had 45 oz and really didn't drink anything else.  I'm nervous that I could be harming the baby and can't wait for my appointment next week.  I've just had a sour stomach or stomach pains since the beginning and I don't enjoy much.  I should try herbal tea again since my stomach is feeling a bit better.  Last pregnancy I was much better about getting 64 oz and at least 12 oz of milk.  I think going into the office everyday kept me on a better schedule.  Now I only go in one day and work from home the rest of the time and have my 19 month old with me, so the days are hectic and I just don't get around to it.

Same here. Last pregnancy I worked and would drink at least 3 32 ounce cups of water everyday. I have no idea how much I drink now, but I know it's not enough. :(
  • All this 1/2 your weight nonsense is reeeeealllllyyy making me wish I got my pre-pregnancy weight under control. Wah.
  • @mysteryship I believe so. Everything I can find says baking soda is super helpful to making the potassium usable, when added in.

  • Same here. My Camelback bottle is the best and really helps me monitor. I drink between 3-5 Liters a day depending on if I've been out in the sun much and if I've had much juice (or a coffee) that day. The days I only have 3 Liters of water I feel like I haven't had enough and get fatigued and headache-y. The days I have more like 5 Liters, I feel like I'm peeing every 20 minutes. It's a delicate balance.

What are you ladies drinking BESIDES water? I'm SO TIRED of water. I have the occasional juice or chocolate milk, but my options feel so limited.
  • @travelingtexan I mix in the Mio or crystal light things. It brings in a bit of flavor, but no salt and hardly any sugar.

  • I definitely don't drink as much water as I know I should, but I usually have a big cup that I fill up with ice and then put NSA juice in it, usually apple, white grape, or cranberry, so the ice usually waters it down and I get it that way. I also eat a lot of fruit, so I think that makes up for some of the water I don't drink. I just don't like water. I haven't really had any sodas since I found out I was pregnant. I do drink A LOT of milk. As in, we go through half a gallon a day just between cooking and what I drink. It's all 1%, although I probably don't need that much dairy. Nothing tastes better than a glass of ice cold milk though, IMO.
  • Up your water intake, they said.
It'll be good for you, they said.

I'm on a weight-loss program called "Pee Every Five Minutes." In between all the peeing, snissing (RLP, mostly), and sweating my ass off this summer, it's no wonder my bump is practically nonexistent.  I'm peeing it away.

I discovered that if I get my water out of the sink vs the refrigerator door, I drink more of it. The refrigerator water is so cold and I used to love that, but it's so hard to drink ice cold water right now. So weird.
