Baby Names

Atticus or Atlas?

Which name do you prefer and why? So far these are the only two names Dh and I can come to an agreement on. Im leaning slightly toward Atticus because it's a more familiar name and I'm not sure if Atlas comes across as trying to hard? Dh is slightly leaning toward Atlas because he says that a 3 syllable name is a lot to have to say all the time. Also we have a ds already named Lukas, both names are similar sounding at the end but I don't think they sound too matchy matchy but maybe I'm being biased? Any orher name suggestions are welcomed, thanks!

Re: Atticus or Atlas?

  • I actually really like both names. I find Atlas slight less matchy but also odd with Lukas. Atticus and Lukas seem pretty matchy to me but seem to pair better style wise.

    Maybe

I prefer Atticus over Atlas. Atlas is just such a heavy name, does sound a little like it's trying too hard or pushing your son to be powerful and strong (not necessarily bad, but I just can't picture a quiet engineer-type named Atlas)

More suggestions, Lukas and...Archer, Adam, Arlo, Asher, Alton, Abram, Austin, Adler

Atticus. Atlas makes me think the parents are hard core objectivists.
  • Atlas! I don't like the matchy cus/kas sounds of Lukas and Atticus.

  • Oh I love August if it was strictly up to me that would be his name, but sadly Dh already vetoed that one!

  • I like both names! But Atticus slightly more
  • I prefer Atlas and find Atticus to be trendy/hipster. Also, I find Atlas to be stronger and more appealing to me personally. Our son is Ulysses and it is a big name that we thought would get a nn, but I have no issue saying the three syllables and actually prefer it. Just my experience.
  • Atlas. Atticus bugs me with hipster pretension.

I like both names but I don't like either with Lukas

But, I would go with Atticus.

I like PP suggestion of Arlo a lot.

  • Prefer Atticus. I don't know what your politics are but with a name like Atlas you'll prob have some people wondering if you named after the Ayn Rand novel...
  • I like both names a great deal, but don't love Atticus with Lukas because of the similar endings.

I'd also suggest Ambrose, Arlo, August, Hugo, Oliver, and Otto.
  • Thanks for the input and suggestions everyone. I like August but Dh does not at all!! I also like Arlo, but I'm not sure I'm pronouncing it correctly. Is it Are-low or Are-Loo/Lou?
